fwiw, I've seen tape of Loeffler working with Brady when he was a grad assistant and have heard Loeffler talk about it (I took a football coaching class at CMU when Debord/Loeffler were there.)  Brady had to make a lot of adjustments to his footwork since he was relatively slow and Loeffler helped him improve upon that.

I coached HS football for a few years and talked with other coaches about that same tape.  Michigan would (probably still do) share drill tape with coaches looking to improve technique and I think that was one of the ones that made the rounds.

I can't imagine Leoffler NOT using something like that as a resume builder.

Loeffler was a big piece of Brady's early development and it seems like he's done a good job of capitalizing on that.

Hasn't exactly had the most awe inspiring career otherwise. I think he's "just a guy" but who knows, he might be a better HC than coordinator.

Morris is my favorite. Thin Blue Line, Vernon Florida, Gates of Heaven...in addition to what's been mentioned. Herzog is right there too

Totally agree on the announcing.  On top of continuing to bring up the push, Tillman said that Kinnel should have been tossed as well!  I normally laugh off bad announcing but yeesh, that was straight up offensive!

I can't remember where I heard or read it, but supposedly one of the reasons they still use it is to have the players show that they've continued to hit the gym hard between the end of season and the combine. Considering it more of an endurance exercise vs a show of power.

Till he lifted his hand up, I was convinced his hands and feet were tied and he was trying to wiggle his feet free...

I only hope that if I'm ever taken hostage, my captors treat me so well though... it looks like they've had him on a steady diet of brisket for the last week.

12/29/2016 - 2:52pm Edwards recounting the

Edwards recounting the recruitment of Ty Detmer is one of my all time favorite recruiting stories:

"We’d had a pretty good run at quarterbacks when he came along. We tried to recruit a kid named John Elway. We tried to recruit other big names out of high school. We couldn’t even get them to come for a visit. So this kid down in Texas had all kinds of stats. He threw more in a game in high school there than we did for a couple of seasons… He committed for a visit. Between his junior and senior year, he and his father took a trip to look around. The first time I saw him, they opened the door and there’s this little guy there. He had an Adam’s apple bigger than his biceps. He probably weighed 145 pounds or something like that… We sat down and his dad, who was also his high school coach, said, ‘Well, coach, if you want him, he’s yours.’  And I’m thinking, ‘Something’s wrong here. I wonder what film they sent me.’ … I looked at him and I was expecting to see John Elway and I saw Pee Wee Herman. … He came after his senior year, and he wasn’t in camp four or five days when Norm Chow came in and told me, ‘I think we’ve got something very, very special here.’"

RIP

09/16/2016 - 4:06pm My favorite moment from the

My favorite moment from the Samuels highlight reel is when their team runs an option play, there are three guys that have the QB and Samuels dead to rights.  Instaed of the QB charging up field to salvage whatever he can, he pitches back to Samuels who reverses field for a 55 yard touchdown, evading six or seven dudes. Absolutely ridiculous.

08/26/2016 - 11:34am Coached HS football for five

Coached HS football for five years, during and a little bit after college.  Some of the most fun I've ever had.  It's been about 10 years and I miss it all the time.

I would recommend coaching (at any level) it to anyone who has the desire to try it. Coaching gives you (at least it did for me) a completely different perspective on the game.

I have often wondered how much you would have to offer an Alabama or LSU to play above the mason-dixon?

It's probably more than anyone would be willing to pay but I'd still be curious to know what that number is.

02/23/2016 - 11:02am I would find it hilarious if

I would find it hilarious if Kirby Smart took time to fly down to Florida to watch Michigan practice.   That seems like an excellent use of your time.

I guess I don't know what kind of practices Harbaugh has planned in Florida but I get the impression that he would be totally indifferent to other coaches showing up to them.

10/22/2015 - 11:41am I see where you're coming

I see where you're coming from but they did have a brand new offensive coordinator. It is plausible that the staff could have anticipated some challenges in implementing a new system.

10/07/2015 - 10:18am I'm always skeptical of any

I'm always skeptical of any team that has to rely heavily on screens.  I'm glad that they have been successful so far but those are the kind of plays that are the easiest for good defenses to take away once it's on tape.  Hopefully Rudock and the offense can start to get more consistent with the base plays, or Harbaugh/Fisch/Drevno are truly inventive enough to overcome the offense's deficencies.

Agreed.  He also had very litte interest in blocking. It would be pretty easy for Chesson or Harris to pass him in that respect.

08/31/2015 - 7:48pm You seem to be forgetting

You seem to be forgetting 2013. Before Johnson got hurt in the first game, he was expected to get a significant number of carries that season.  So many people on this board were up in arms that the coaches didn't know what they were doing, playing a three star over DERRICK GREEN(!).

I think he got lost in the shuffle at the beginning of the year, last year, because he was working his way back from injury?  No one really knows because of the resistance to talk about injuries...but I think your post is a lot of revisionist history on what the last staff thought of Drake Johnson.

08/31/2015 - 9:18am I agree with your bulleted

I agree with your bulleted list generally but I'd add to it pass rush.  Somewhat correlated to turnovers.  As good as the defense has been over the last couple years, they haven't been able to generate anything close to consistent pressure.

08/30/2015 - 11:00am Technically you're right, but

Technically you're right, but Mattison stayed with the staff because he has family in Ann Arbor. I don't think it would have been difficult for him to find a high level position somewhere else.

08/28/2015 - 11:03am Maturity is such a big thing

Maturity is such a big thing in college football that gets a little bit overlooked.

Most successful teams aren't winning without rosters that are heavy on Juniors and Seniors.

Obviously, Hoke brought in a lot of talent, but some of the BEST talent he brought in is starting to reach full maturity.... my expecations are high.
