OT: ESPN Article on Hoke's Start as Oregon DC

Submitted by FauxMo on

Pretty good article, and I think we should all wish Brady the best (unless, of course, UM is playing the Ducks).

I have to admit I did laugh out loud when Hoke was quoted as saying: "“You’ve got to hear football,” Hoke said. “You’ve got to be out there and hear it. ... I think that’s a metric that’s measurable.”"

Maybe that explains the lack of a headset? He is some kind of football ninja that only needs his ears to measure football excellence, and therefore cannot be burdened with a headset?? :-)

I believe Washington is more irrelevant than we are with OSU in their rivalry with Oregon as of late.

It's either Washington or Tennessee for most losses in a row to a chief rival. If not, they're probably in the top 3-4.

Hoke disliker.  He ran the program in the ground, misused players (thus hurting their careers), blew redshirts for no good reasons, walked away with millions of  season ticket holder's dollars and then had the gall to question Harbaugh's decisions during the season. I don't wish he dies, but I don't wish him success.

The man loved Michigan, loved his players, and tried his hardest. He was a bad head coach for Michigan but he's a good man.

and by "walked away with millions of season ticket holder's dollars" I think you mean "his salary"?

If you're going to complain about how much money Hoke walked away with, then at least direct that complaint towards the man who deserves blame, one David Brandon. That Hoke walked away with millions is totally Brandon's fault for signing a ridiculous contract with him. Hoke was savvy in being able to get teh contract he did get...I don't begrudge him one bit for the money he walked away with.

I'm rooting for Oregon's defense to improve. They finished last year ranked No. 116 in total defense (worse than Purdue!); 89 in 2014; 37 in 2013; 44 in 2012; and 67 in 2011.

is there are "schadenfreude" type word for when you look back at the pain of your past, with gratitude of your current situation?

I have no bad feelings for the guy and wish him all the best. However.... I fear he uses the term "measurable metric" pretty loosely, and fear that's where his metric analysis starts and ends. "Arglebargle... crunch... har har... making good husbands and fathers... crunch... naptime" leaves a bit to be desired.

Or, since it’s Hoke, he might spend a fair amount of time this spring with his eyes closed, evaluating every player with a fresh set of ears.

Well, hopefully for Oregon he doesn't actually adopt the Big 12 philosophy of evaluating defense and defensive players and schemes, which as we all know, looks like the inside of eyelids even when you have your eyes open.

In all seriousness, it will be interesting to see where this goes for Hoke. I will definitely make it a point to catch an Oregon game or two out of curiosity.

1. Brady's Wolverines with Chantel Jennings covering : OK
2. Chantel leaves AA to cover Oregon Ducks
3. Brady's Wolverines TANK
4. Brady new DC at Oregon

The clues are out there...

that Hoke wasn't himself here but rather who he thought he should be. Like, he played strong to what he feels was a "Michigan Man" (or whatever dumb thing we want to call it). I also think he may have been heavily influenced by Brandon in the crony "you're only here because of me" sense. He may truly be THAT bad of a coach but I think he's somewhere in between good and awful. I think this job changed him or he changed for it.

I love Brady the man, but the more time that goes by, the more I realize how inept he was as the HC.

Despite my disdain for his coaching at Michigan, I wish Brady well at Oregon.

I wish him well. But I have a feeling Hoke's defense is going to get lit up in the Pac12.

Good thing for Oregon is that they really can't get much worse. Then again, we said that a few times while Hoke was here.

I think Mattison and a lot of upperclassman are what led to our success on defense for a few years. I just have a hard time seeing Hoke being able to game plan for several spread and shred offenses every year. But we shall see.

I only opened this to read the comments knowing the article would piss me off. Then I read the article because hey Hoke can't be as bad as I think he is. Then I'm reminded he had the team hitting everyday of the week even on Fridays. God damn dummy.
