Barry Sanders Jr. Transfers to Oklahoma State
http://newsok.com/article/5478240
Stanford running back Barry J. Sanders told The Oklahoman in an exclusive interview he intends to join the Cowboys as a graduate transfer for his final season of eligibility.
Barry J. Sanders played in 36 games over three seasons with 664 rushing yards and five touchdowns after one redshirt year at Stanford.
His father, Barry Sanders, had arguably the greatest individual season in college football history in 1988 at OSU with 2,850 yards rushing and 44 touchdowns to win the Heisman Trophy.
Would not be looking at much playing time at Stanford with Heisman hopeful Christian McCaffrey get the majority of the touches. Expected to compete for starting job at OK State.

I hope that Lil Barry blows up at Oklahoma St, and goes on to have a great NFL career playing for a team not named the Lions.

I hope he goes to the Packers, and becomes all-world, wins multiple SBs and just straight kills the Lions every matchup. Karmic retribution for what his dad had to experience here.

Karmic retribution would be Aaron Roger's arm falling off midthrow, followed by their stadium being swallowed up in a sinkhole a la Batman/Bane.
Fuck you and your cheese!

ironic.

This was the expected landing spot all along. He's a pretty talented runner, and he should be a step up over last year's starter. They did not have much of a run game.

Plus no one plays defense in the Big12 -- that should help him out.

my favorite pro athlete back in the day. Hope Junior can do well there also.

Who would have thought Ed McCaffrey's son would be a better running back than Barry Sanders?
February 11th, 2016 at 3:59 PM ^
Ed McCaffrey, probably.......he's really fast and his wife was an olympian.
February 11th, 2016 at 4:30 PM ^
pretty sure she wasn't an olympian, but rather her dad was: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Sime

Ed McCaffrey was probably the toughest dude in the NFL back when he played.

If all goes as wished, his son could be among the top three athletes to ever play qb at UM. Denard will be difficult to top, and although many prefer Leach as their all-time UM qb, Franklin's three year record was amazing and aside from his running skills, it was understood he was a very good passer as well. Of course that was something then we would have never known about.
Given the glut of ridiculously fast lbers and dbs around cfb, would it even be possible today to move the ball down the field in a two option system? I realize Tech and (Navy/AF?) does it but that's a triple option.

Even when Barry Jr. was being recruited, it didn't seem like you would ever be able to say that someone named Barry Sanders played at Oklahoma State not once but twice in the span of almost 30 years. Even though this time it is via graduate transfer, you can now say that - it's actually rather fitting that he should play out his eligibility there for that reason alone. Hopefully, he does well.

McCaffery probably about as close as you're gonna get...should have won the Heisman, but he's got another shot this year.

Sanders Sr was so good that he didn't need PRs and KRs to add to his total yardage record like Christian did.
That is astonishing if you think about it.

You are not alone in thinking that. Barry Sr's running style was pure art. He could stop on a dime and cut to full speed in 1 step. Barry had plenty of amazing stats, but you really didn't need to look at any stats to know how great he was, just watch him play.
February 11th, 2016 at 10:54 PM ^
All I need to know about how good Barry Sr. was, is that my wife will actually sit down and watch his highlights with me.

as he will be in the shadow of his father and always compared to what he did there. Hope the kid can have a great season.

I hope he does well. I'd see a game if I could, if only to chant:
"Barry! Barry! Barry!"
one more time. GTBTB!

Just Barry Sanders.

Hell if you'd chose MSU, I'd still wish you good luck. Your father supplied me with some of the greatest memories during my time as an NFL fan. I only wish he had played prior to '78. That was the season i said, "no mas" and soon after I quit watching the Lions the NFL became optional to me until the point it was no longer a consideration. Only games I watch now involve Michigan players. And, of course, the Super Bowl. I mean wtf. It is a holiday. No disrespect for MIL, Jr., but I, then a federal employee, could never see the reason they just didn't move that day to the Monday following the Super Bowl. Has to be among the leading days for personal or sick leave. In any regard, Cowboy UP!!!

I'd have even less interest in the NFL, rooting for him and only him, not that team with the kitty on the helmet was what I enjoyed.
Keys of the game:
Detroit: Get Barry a hole or stay out of his way
Throw less than 3 interceptions with your joke of a quarterback you found begging on the corner last week
Opposing team: Limit Barry Sanders to under 200 yards of rushing.

Awesome to get to play one season where he dad set all sorts of records. Plus he gets a great Stanford degree as well.

Trying to live up to his father's legacy. One of the greatest running backs of all time! Boy, do I miss him, I hope he would've stayed in the League for a couple more seasons, not with the Lions, though.
