Donnie Brasco, is that you?

Seriously though, please try to curtail the concern trolling (at least before this becomes full-blown anyway) - I've already had to get rid of two users this week because they wouldn't quit it and I really don't want to have to do it again. Let's just stop it before it gets out of hand, eh? Recruiting has apparently created in some people the need for some nice mood stabilizers.

As a U of D alum who has watched Cassius A LOT (and Simpson only in highlight tapes), Cassius is a really boom or bust prospect IMO. Simpson seems safer. Cassius has pretty much all the skills you want in a point guard. Phenomenal shooter, ball-handler, passer and a solid finisher. However, he is the most athletically limited player you are ever going to see that high in the rankings. He's a bad athlete in the context of high level high school play. He tends to get shredded by quick guards (Josh McFolley who is playing at UDM now destroyed him last year). He will drive Izzo crazy with his defense and a lot of that is just athletic limitations. He might have an issue where he's just not athletic enough to play at a high-level, similar to Trey Burke transitioning to the pros.

Hopefully that's the case, because I don't want to deal with Cassius if he does work out... He'll be a 4 year guard and it won't be fun to play against him every year.

I must've missed this, but are we not in on Josh Jackson? Just realized he's from Michigan so curious why we wouldn't have a shot. Just eliminated us early on?

I hate how everyone sucks Izzo's balls. He's a fuckin crybaby. All he does is make excuses and whine. After the last few recruiting years, you can clearly tell he and his program is using dirty tactics. I've said it for years and I'll continue to say it, Give me Beilein over him any day of the week. Fuck Izzo.

I'm not buying that.  This year Izzo had a great class, but it seems somewhat logical.

Nick Ward committed early and is a typical Izzo recruit from Ohio (ranked about #40).  Then Josh Langford comitted who was down to MSU/UM with Michigan ties...so makes sense he committed after Battle went to UM.  Winston had MSU leading for awhile anyways so adding these two guys put them over the top.  Then Bridges is buddies with those guys.  Bridges even said if Winston went to UM he was going to Kentucky.

Sometimes things just work out.  Will be interesting to see if MSU lands Josh Jackson as well...MSU's commits are recruiting him pretty hard.

The truth of the matter, there is no reason why Josh Jackson should have considered Michigan. Take a look from the outside instead of looking at it from an UM fan perspective. The kid is a definate one and done, Top Five NBA pick no less in 2017 (barring career-ending injury).

The only two questions from his camp shoud be  1) If the school can help secure future endorsement contracts 2) Can this school showcase me properly to secure the #1 draft spot. That's it. Unlike many long time UM fans on this board, he has little affinity for the Maize and Blue and why should he? For the majority of his childhood the team was very average.

Those on this board suggesting he is looking for some extra cash from a booster, have no clue. That's chump change and so 80's and 90's. Prospects of his caliber are only looking at the bigger dollars that only the NBA can bring. Why do you suppose Coach K is appearing in so many commercial's nowadays promoting his former players? That is now part of the deal to get the one and done's to commit.

Minus using ESPN TV ads to do this, this is no different than what an UM grad expects by having a Michigan degree. That extra leg up.

Yeah, I think a third factor would probably be if you have a legit shot to win it all.  If I'm one-and-done...going some place to show my talents and potentially win it all would be enticing.

prepping out west. Early word was he didn't want to play in Michigan, though now it looks like State is in the mix. Beilein will rarely be a factor for one and types. He wants kids who embrace the entire college experience, not those jockeying for draft position.

My question is who departs from the team to make room for all four of these recruits? We have one open spot and with Spike and Caris graduating, that gives us three. Where does the other spot come from?

This is all speculation on my part.. but I believe the writing may be on the wall for one Kam Chatman. He was a big time recruit who has completely fallen out of the rotation. Now, I think Beilein would love to keep him around and try developing his skill set but usually kids coming in with that type of hype want to play and play immediately.

kids that he likes who he believes will fit his system. The kids often get bumped up in the experts ratings when they are watched because Coach Beilein has an elite eye for talent. (See GRIII, Hardaway, Stauskus, Levert, Simpson etc.). I don't buy the idea that we won't be an elite team any time soon because all it takes is one elite big to add to the shooters and we have a great team. The real issue is how often will Coach Beilein be able to recruit and/or develop one of those? If and when that happens we will go deep in the tourney again.

I am not posting as much, because most of the posts seem to be at most a line or two and either just add on, pile on, find a (somewhat relevant) gif or are pretty witty. On rare occasions I might have a quick wit, but I'm not generally known for having a brilliant riposte or comment on the matter at hand.

However, I did want to chime in to say a few things.

  1. I love Xavier.
  2. I love Beilein
  3. I don't want Michigan to become Kentucky (or Duke, or Memphis, or Louisville, or North Carolina).

Regarding points two and three, I love that Beilein is a good coach, that he has a great relationship with the players, that they have fun, that they work hard, that they will do well. I don't want Michigan to compromise it's standards and pay players and their families under the table. I don't want championships that are bought that way. With those who don't care (win at any cost), we can just agree to disagree.
