I'm always a little disappointed when it seems like things did not work out for all parties in volved.  The excitement of the moment turning into a reality that didn;t measure up to expectations must be hard.  I wish him the best and hope he does well.

People are trying to slam Michigan and the Wolverines can't defend themselves. Michigan gave Enis an academic plan at the start of the year. It didn't work out. The same can be said for others in this class. Regarding Swenson, Michigan told him to camp, Michigan wanted to see him workout at his school, none of that happened. He never official visited to Ann Arbor. I certainly understand how people could initially view all these decommitments, but I believe there is a justifiable story with each one. My opinion.

I'm okay with the decommit but I think this looks bad on UM. It's looking like we are forcing these kids out right before signing day. I know there are a lot of details that we don't know about but I'm just talking about public perception. If a player gets a "commitable offer" then I think we should honor it.

Classes would not be filled if you only offered five stars.  No school gets every recruit that they offer.  You have to offer for more spots than you have.  It's not an exact science.

I agree that kids need to informed of status as well in advance as possible, but I would rather the staff be upfront and honest before signing day rather than running out scholorship players who want to stay for the three to four years until graduation.

My gut feeling is this issue was caused by Harbaugh and crew not knowing what the recruiting prospects in year 1 were going to be and as a hedge against the possibility of a bad year performance wise by the team. Now that Harbaugh has shown the ability to have a dramatic turn around and there is a lot of positive momentum for the program in general, I bet he is much more discerning with the offers they give out to the '17/'18/'19 classed.

They outperformed their own expectations, got more interest from top tier recruits than they expected in year 1, and now have to mitigate their earlier offers. This won't be a problem going forward.....I hope.

It has been pointed out before that a few of these 'de-commits' weren't even really 'committed' in the first place. But UM can't control what is thrown out there on social media. I don't know exactly what happened with Enis, but it appears when he 'committed' he was given an academic plan and that didn't work out this resulting in his 'de-commitment'. What if he never had a commutable offer, but an understanding that if he brought his grades up, UM would then take his commitment?

It sounds like, usually, the staff is very clear with communicating where a kid stands on their recruiting board. In Swenson'a case, there have rumors he won't be a part of the class for months. So if some insider types are hearing that, why didn't Swenson. Either he did and isn't admitting it, or it was a communication breakdown on UM's part and never was clear with him where he stands. If the latter is the case, it's totally on UM, and does Swenson a real disservice. I hope it was an honest mistake and doesn't happen again.

uhh future recruits?

Ambry Thomas tweeted something not so positive about the situation

Onwenu apparently retweeted Swenson's goodbye comment as he goes to visit MSU, etc.

You don't think it matters to HS coaches?  There are also the training facilities all these higher end recruits train at like Core6 - basically took Harbaugh tot ask on twitter etc.

Again, the timing is what is making some of these look bad in optics.  Most of us who follow receuiting have listed Enis and Weaver as "gone".  But the larger world is just seeing UM push out players at the last minute - that world includes other recruits who would be dumb to not think "that can be me next year".

I do not have any subscriptions to pay sites.  Most my information comes from here or Sam on WTKA.  This is one that has been spoken of for months.  My understanding/immpression is some of these guys have left their status as committed to UofM because it looks impressive as they check out other schools.

While many are saying the staff is being unethical, let's always understand it's the nature of recruiting. Also do we know if Enis or Swenson ever received their official written offer letters? Maybe not receiving them was a sign to them.

I think the talent we are getting might make some of these kids think about playing time. We are getting some really good recruits and maybe some are wondering if they'd see the field at Michigan.

Does anybody remember any player who committed to Michigan very early in the process, let's say over his junior year, who has been the best player of the class? Off the top of my head I can think of Ricardo Miller, Shane Morris, George Campbell, Marvin Robinson, this Ward kid who ended up going to Purdue las year, Vlad Emilien, Dymonte Thomas, Shaun Crawford, and now Erik Swenson. It sucks for a kidl like Swenson or Miller, because you can tell they love Michigan from the very beginning. But I wonder if talent evaluation has been a problem with predicting how a player will develop over such a long span of time. We have seen a lot of these player's stock fall like a rock over their senior year and we have been watching them go from 5 to 3 stars. And deservedly so. The thing with a guy like Hoke is that he was truly honorable and was willing to stick to his word, even against the best interests of the team. Don't you think he knew Shane was not as good as he expected him to be by the time he signed? I'm not saying he should have pulled his offer, but by then he hadn't added any Qb in the previous class nor kept any other option for 2013. I love Harbaugh and even though I don't really like how some kids are been pushed out of the class, I don't think you can win when you choose to drag death weight that is impossible to avoid with projecting kids so far before that have to actually play for you.

I hear you and largely agree, but there's just no way Hoke knew Morris wasn't that good.

Mich's QB signees were Bellomy in 2011, nobody in 2012 and Morris in 2013. If you know that Morris might not work out, you have to sign someone else in 2013—otherwise you're basically guaranteeing disaster.

I think recruits are doing themselves a disservice by starting their recruitment so far before they sign. Coaches cannot wait, because if you don't start recruiting a kid at least during their junior year you have no chance of getting him, but it's risky business, because is really hard to project how good anyone is going to be 2 or 3 years in the future, so there are two possible scenarios in the end, you either commit to a coach that sticks to his word and the team is not that good (Ricardo Miller, Marvin Robinson, Jerald Robinson, Shane Morris, Denzel Ward) or you commit to someone who wants to win and end up out of the class.
