Jake Rudock: Most effective passer under pressure
According to ProFootballFocus College and this from the Michigan Football FB page:
74.1% pass completion rate while under pressure. Congrats to Jake on a great year!
*******
Also, I got a message from brand new MGoUser discussman, jr and he says that Jake will certainly get drafted. He can’t start his own “this is my first post, so be gentle” post and asked me to launch this discussion topic. Consider that:
- Jimmy Clausen is still bouncing around the NFL,
- There are a slew of starters and back-ups injured,
- Teams are bringing back old guys and Mark Sanchez to fill vacancies,
- Current old guys that are starters may not be re-signed in the off season
Teams are going to be drafting QB’s just so they have contingency. It may be for their own team or they may use a practice squad QB as trade bait to get a pick higher than one they used for the QB.
Jake is listed as the #16 rated QB on some draft boards. After yesterday’s game and a deeper look into his work this year, discussman,jr sees his stock rising.

Agreed, however I am not sure about Houma. Certainly he is talented enough to be drafted, however he will need to make it as a FB/Special teamer, and most teams wouldnt put a draft pic towards a guy like that unless it is later rounds. We will see.

If no one grabs him in the 7th, his phone will be ringing off the hook with teams trying to sign him as an undrafted free agent

what Houma stats would have been like if Hoke would have used him more. He is a good talent
January 2nd, 2016 at 4:30 PM ^
All three are plausible options. It all depends on the round and the team.
None are first round picks - that basically have to make the team and have to help right away or have such an upside that easing them into the system is reasonable (that essentially means future franchise QBs only).
But for the later rounds it all depends on things we may not know of. If Houma gets invited to workout camp and puts up decent numbers, his ability to block first, catch passes second, play on special teams third and run the ball fourth may get him hooked up with a team.
In the end that all three are being mentioned as NFL plausible signees shows the effectiveness of Harbaugh's coaching team.

No doubt UM is the next QBU. No cabbage patch kids or rainbow brights that cant handle the cold either. I think I'm posting too much though and getting addicted to this stuff. Can someone suspend me for a couple months. Spending way too much time on here.

I think we need to have 1 successful NFL QB from maybe the last 10-15 years to be considered QBU. We've been hanging our hat on Brady for forever - which is fine - but we haven't produced any NFL QBs lately
Frankly, there is a QBU in the state and they play in East Lansing...

Your point is valid, but both Navarre and Henne were NFL QBs, and Denard Robinson is still on a squad (at a different position but still)

that he gets drafted, especially becuase rounds 6&7 are guys that are either kickers/punters or just filling out camp spots. There are worse guys to take a chance on than Jake Rudock.
+1 for spelling "Rudock" correctly

I think Rudock can carve himself out a nice career as a backup QB in the NFL. He's got the perfect demeanor for it. There's no shame in that. In a few years, he may even find himself in a situation where he gets a shot at a QB competition in some teams camp.

backups is up recently and the trend will continue. Besides the Bradys - an NFL QB gets hit quite a bit. In fact Brady gets hit enough - the fact that Garoppolo doesn't get more minutes is odd.
January 2nd, 2016 at 7:54 PM ^
I think half have started the whole year in my quick research, and another 4 are back after missing some time during the season. Kind of surprised me. But that does mean at least 20 backups started games this season, and even more saw time playing.

If the pro scouts like Mel Kiper can't appreciate that, well then they are useless!
Oh I forgot, Brady was a 6th round pick, never mind.
January 2nd, 2016 at 3:44 PM ^
After Glasgow's performance in the Bowl game, Ithink he and Rudock gets drafted. I would guess Jarrod Wilson, Houma, Ojemudia (probably others I'm forgetting) get picked up as free agents.

The more interesting question is, does Houma get drafted? I would think that, if not, someone line the Ravens bring him into camp. He is their kind player and John already met him (at MD game).

Todd Collins, former M QB held a clipboard for about 15 seasons in the NFL and made a ton of money. I have no doubt that Jake could at least do the same, and possible could be a starter for some teams.

BEFORE the Utah loss.
I'm just waiting til Harbaugh "gets" the rivalries.
January 2nd, 2016 at 3:48 PM ^
I don't see why he shouldn't get drafted. We saw that he can make the tight throws (see Perry TD vs Florida, and Chesson TD vs...I can't remember who). He can make the deep throw (see second half of season). He makes good decisions with the ball. He can tuck and run if he needs to. Honestly I think he could be one of those boring game managing QBs that can start and win games but doesn't fill up the stat sheet.
But that's just one fan's opinion, I suppose.

where he threw between two defenders and hit the receiver should be the first highlight of every film set he sends out to teams. Perfect laser spiral through a window the size of a large poptart box. That was a pro quality pass. As were several others he made there. The improvement he made under Harbaugh just boggles the mind.

I have yet to doubt Harbaugh and I'm not sure I ever will.
Everyone loves the guy with the Golden arm (not referring to Morris/O'korn but everyone loves the guy with the rocket arm ).
Just goes to show you what a motivated, competive team can do with a smart average'd arm qb.

I'll admit it, I thought Harbaugh was just protecting Rudock's ego/confidence from the fans/media with that "not even close" comment. Very glad I was wrong.
