...the kid just realizes he's never gonna play in the NFL and understands how much weight a degree from UM carries in the "real" world. Good on him.
December 30th, 2015 at 3:34 PM ^
Not good on him when he's taking up an athletic scholarship and there are other more deserving players out there who won't get that scholarship if he's still on the roster as a scholarship athlete next year.
December 30th, 2015 at 3:37 PM ^
...you wanna essentially boot kids who haven't panned out as planned despite them doing nothing wrong?
Shouldn't you really be getting ready for tomorrow's game against Sparty instead of commenting on blogs, Coach Saban?
December 30th, 2015 at 3:42 PM ^
Yes, and this happens all the time. Players transfer, are kindly shown the door, or don't have their scholarships renewed when they don't pan out. No one is forcing them to leave school. It just means they won't be on athletic scholarship.
December 30th, 2015 at 3:44 PM ^
I don't know Morris's circumstances, but a lot of guys would have to leave school if they lost their scholarships.
December 30th, 2015 at 3:47 PM ^
I would like to kindly show you the door.

Except that, as you know, the Big Ten made it policy that scholarships would be four-year commitments and even that those who left "in good faith" could come back and complete their degree on scholarship, although it is more the four-year thing to which you may object. I wonder how you would get around such a commitment without seeming like, dare I say, a cold-hearted asshole, but I could be wrong and there might be a way.

Can we pull your MGoBlog membership because you didn't pan out?

That is a cost of doing business. I think that's a shitty thing of you to say, and I'm glad we're doing four year scholarships now for exactly this reason. This isn't the NFL.

Sorry man, that's just a very shitty outlook on this situation. And he may not be the #1 QB on the roster but he very well could be a fantastic backup ..... something we have not had in a while.

.......maybe the kid actually thinks he is the best QB on the roster and can beat out the others for the starting job and is willing to stay and fight for the chance. Good on him.
December 30th, 2015 at 3:42 PM ^
I would honestly love for that to happen (though I have my doubts).

like a competitor.

The only reason why I'm posting this comment is to get to 100 mgoblog points. Hooray for me.

I totally got the hiking boots I wanted for Christmas!

Nice work on Christmas Santa! Way to show some serious hustle getting around the world in one night! Now rest up before next season.
December 30th, 2015 at 3:35 PM ^
Well that is a pleasant surprise.

All these rumors and articles are saying O Korn is the real deal.

but Shane sees O'Korn every day in practice. Shane knows best whether he can compete with O'Korn.
December 30th, 2015 at 3:48 PM ^
I am happy to hear this. Sometimes guys just don't turn out but he has been a good teammate and maybe just had unrealistic expectations. I kinda feel bad for him.
December 30th, 2015 at 4:06 PM ^
He is going to sit anyway unless he goes to a FCS school. This way he gets his M degree and a chance - however slim some may think it is - to play QB for Michigan.
I am concerned a bit on the Scholarship #s though, as I figured at least 1 QB would need to go to make room for the 27 kids incoming (plus grayshirts). My gues would have been Shane. I suppose Speight and Malzone are possible but don't see a great reason for either to leave....so where are the tranfers coming from?
December 30th, 2015 at 4:12 PM ^
the staff contacted you to find out what you are figuring?

In fact, I was laughing as I read that post.

Peters is Harbaugh golden child and hand selected. I see O Korn coming in making big impact but not counting out
Shane. Not even mentioning Gentry.

If we pursue and get a transfer QB that will give us 6 scholarship QBs next year. Is that a lot?
December 30th, 2015 at 3:44 PM ^
I doubt Shane will be here, or at least won't be on scholarship. There are limited scholarships available. You can't be using one up on an overrated recruit at the most important position.
December 30th, 2015 at 3:55 PM ^
Could you clarify your opinion on Morris as a quarterback? Not sure you've made it clear yet in this thread. Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.

I'm honestly doubting we take a transfer QB at this point. I know people (or at least WD) want Taysom Hill, but for how injury prone he is, I'd rather just have a consistent starter for the next two years - may that be O'Korn or Morris or hell Peters wins it as a freshman.
December 30th, 2015 at 3:48 PM ^
While I understand that Shane has not met hype/expectations, I'm really surprised by the assload of unwarranted negativity. The buzz is that O'Korn will get the nod, but what the hell has everyone else seen to demonstrate that he would not be a better 2 than Malzone or even Peters?

Morris could have gotten loads better in the last year. Dude is a smart and talented QB who has had some crappy coaches in the past. Maybe that redshirt year under Harbaugh is what he needed to showcase his talents and put it all together.
December 30th, 2015 at 6:00 PM ^
If you consider the root of "assload" it's not really surprising.
December 30th, 2015 at 3:54 PM ^
December 30th, 2015 at 7:16 PM ^
Peters said he is expected to redshirt so 5 with Gentry. 4 without Gentry. Not too bad

I can't really remember the last time we had three guys with college game experience coming back to compete for the starting QB spot. This should bring out the best in O'Korn, Speight, Malzone, and Peters. I feel good about Quarterback next year.
