there is absolutely nothing wrong with going Blue!
December 11th, 2015 at 8:07 AM ^
It just so happens that my blood pressure meds are maize and blue capsules (not joking - that's the color scheme on them), so I like to think I am covered regardless. The only thing is that they do have a diuretic property about them, but I assume those are the memories of the last several seasons before this one being flushed out of me.

Are you insinuating that he has ED???
December 10th, 2015 at 10:54 PM ^
Sure, he should take the blue pill. But if thereafter he experiences and erection lasting 4 or more hours, he should contact a doctor immediately. Or, even better, a team of energetic prostitutes...

Yeah, maybe adolphus washington could help with that last part.

I hear Adolphus Washington can hook him up with a few if needed.

What if she's not hot?
(On second thought, maybe that would be the "alternative medicine" way to fix the problem.)

He also recruits Northern CA, Georgia, and basically every other state along the West Coast. This would be a good hire.

Utes fans just assume that it is a great thing because he won't be able to recruit out of Utah? I hope he brings us some more Houma's and Mone's

Ehhh. BYU is supposed to be talking to Whittingham, so they have bigger fish to fry
December 10th, 2015 at 11:33 PM ^
Anderson is definitely a candidate for the BYU HC job. From today's Salt Lake Tribune.
December 11th, 2015 at 3:51 AM ^
This is my biggest fear regarding Anderson. If he's interested in being an HC, then BYU has an opening. It's all they talk about on the local news here in Utah.
And what makes Anderson an extremely attractive candidate for BYU may also make BYU an attractive job for Anderson . . . .
Work your magic, Jim.

I think Whittingham is a distant pipe dream based on the Athletic Directors existing relationship with him.
I have the feeling Anderson is the backup plan based on how well the interview with Niumatalolo goes and whether he's interested or not. Niumatalolo, for his part, has a pretty important game coming up.
I think the way this will work is if Niumatalolo is BYU's coach next week, then we're likely seeing Anderson come here. Otherwise it'll be back to the drawing board.
I'm okay with Anderson, his defenses this year weren't great but Stanford lost a lot on the defensive side of the ball. Last year Stanford's defense was awesome, so he can at least get available talent to play well and Michigan has a lot of that.

Harbaugh has100x the brand appeal of Anderson and how many CA recruits do we have again? It's not easy to get a kid to go cross country even for a mega star coach. 11 months ago the talk was CA was now going to a massive conduit into Michigan.
Sorry kids are not packing cross country for the Anderson brand when Utah, USC, Oregon Stanford are right there.

They play there every year with Stanford or USC so would at least have them going for them. Would be curious how many CA kids are on their 85 scholarships.
edit - I count 11 kids on their entire roster which counts non scholarship kids. So assuming they have 100-110ish kids in total like we do that's a good 10% which is a good haul. Do we have >3?

I just spent a bunch ot time in snow forecast blog comment sections. Internet posts like this are the Michigan Difference. Good shit alum96.

Agreed, 10% of your players from a state outside of your region sounds like a lot. By comparision I think Bama has 5-6.

When ND partially joined the ACC, a ND friend droned on about how ND was a national brand and that they need the California games and southern games to better recruit the nation. He said joining the big ten would kill them as a program as it would sort of turn them into Purdue. He had a point, but football is about being able to beat your neighbor. ND = chicken.

As well as UCLA/Mora.

It's not just about brand name. Anderson has proven himself to be an extremely savvy, effective recruiter. I'd recommend this article about Anderson's central role in building Stanford football from what it was to what it is.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:58 PM ^
how many kids did he get from PA or OH to go to Stanford with his savvy? Because that is what we are asking in reverse. PA and OH kids have plenty of options "locally" (within a state or two) just as CA kids do (or UT).
Getting a Utah kid to go to CA is diff than getting a Utah kid to go to Michigan. Same for CA. Doesn't mean we wont get a Mone or Houma here or there but saying brand Anderson is going to open a pipeline is more pie in the sky stuff we heard last year about the major influx of CA kids that would be here soon.
I'd be fine with 1 kid a class at this point.
Focusing on TX and FL more reasonably lends to a pipeline to UM in terms of far flung places.
December 11th, 2015 at 12:25 AM ^
I don't care about potential DCs' pipelines, since I think people overestimate their value. Anderson is just a really good, smart, creative recruiter. If he comes here, I couldn't care less whether he gets kids from California, Utah, or Saginaw, but unless everyone is wrong about Anderson's recruiting abilities (including Scout, which named him the 2012 national recruiter of the year), he'd be an excellent addition in that area.
In that article that I linked, both Harbaugh and David Shaw basically credited Anderson with being the key figure/recruiter in rebuilding Stanford. Harbaugh's quotes are gushing, including saying that "the key guy is Lance Anderson in all of this, above everybody in my opinion."

They've got 7 players from Georgia on the roster. I'd say that's impressive and indicative of the recruiting ablity he would bring. It's probably a good thing for us he wasn't recruiting the midwest.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:38 PM ^
Let's wait a couple of recruiting cycle and then you will have data to support or reject your hypothesis. I guess that in 3 years we will have on average 3-4 CA kids on the roster.
By the way, our softball team does not seem to have any trouble getting kids to come to AA when you have fantastic teams on the west coast. When did that begin to happen? When we hired a coach from UCLA. So it can happen.

Don't really like that this is getting leaked before a decision is made. The only options are we get our man a few days early or we don't get our man and have to get our second or third choice. So really neutral or bad. No good comes from an early leak.
