Mendenhall Giving Props

Said that Michigan "is by far the best team we've played." Gut feeling tells me we will be ranked 23rd in the AP poll after this weekend. Any other guesses?

I only see the team having continual improvment. There are players given the opportunity that never were before. Harbaugh and the rest of coaches are tremendous in getting everyone involved.

Not to take away anything from M's great effort on both sides of the ball today, but at Nebraska, home to Boise State, at UCLA, at Michigan. That's a brutal schedule, and seems to have taken a bit of a toll on the BYU players. With that said, however, I fully expect M to be 5-1 going into the October 17th matchup with Sparty. That'll be a good one.

I don't really buy that. three of those games were either in their own time zone or in time zones with a one hour difference. we are two hours different. you encounter one hour differentials in conference play regularly. they played some tough teams, but its not like we had those weeks off.

i feel like this excuse only works if there's severe depth chart issues. I mean even syracuse with its 5th string QB put up more than 105 yards it was such an ass kicking that i don't see how it can be disputed michigan is the better team

Even so, BYU barely eclipsed 100 total yards (and like Ace said, the only reason that happened was because M's second string offense couldn't get a first down to burn the remainder of the clock). There is no excuse anyone can make for that number, tough schedule or not..

about BYU being tired AFTER they were getting crushed.

Not taking this out on you but everyone who kept repeating it. Sorry but if fatigue was the case in this game than why didn't everyone call this sort of beating BEFORE the game.

It's just not fair to keep bringing this point up now, not in this one sided of a game. This puts Michigan in a crappy 'no-win' spot here as it's basically saying no matter what you do against BYU should win this game easily, etc....

The thing is this wasn't a 10 point win where BYU ran out of gas late in the game but instead it was complete domination on both sides of the football. A brutal schedule doesn't cause one team to demolish another like this especially when they're suppose to be about evenly matched teams.

Look at Western Michigan, a much smaller team and less talent than BYU. They've played Michigan State, a very physical and embarrassed Georgia Southern team and also Ohio State in the first 3 weeks and they didn't get beat badly at all today. In fact they played well for the most part.

Sorry the difference in this game wasn't a brutal schedule. I seriously don't think BYU could have scored if they played another quarter. Michigan just looks to be a much better team than BYU overall.

I agree.  Taking NOTHING away from our great improvement, but once it was 14-0 it appeared BYU was ripe-for-the-pickin.  Thats too much travel in one month, and this was pointed out beforehand by several posters who predicted a victory for the good guys.

When is the last time Michigan allowed 105 yards or less? I looked at ESPN dating back to 2003 and didn't see anything close but I could have missed something since I worked till 3 am, slept for 3 hours, made the trip to the game and did a little tailgating.

Wow! The yakety sax game. Who would think there would be such an interesting parallel between this team and one that played The Horror and the debacle against Oregon (who as of this post is getting their backsides handed to them by the Utah squad we played tight on the road) the two weeks prior that year.

I was at the game today and though I'm not ready to declare M back they were very impressive live. It's probably my PTSD from the last seven years but that was a good old fashioned ass whipping. The thing that was most encouraging was that this was a coached win. They were missing their nose tackle and QB and we ran counters and off sets right up the gut and played tight coverage to the sidelines on every go route. We game planned, executed and stayed disciplined. This team has so much potential. Rudock will have to win them a game or two and he will have to throw seams and go routes even if they are risks. But boy can this team run and the coaches can definitely scheme. I've been waiting seven years to exhale. I feel like I finally can. Doesn't that feel great guys?! Go blue forever

I am liking how this team is taking care of business and taking every play seriously. They are starting to have that killer instinct that Harbaugh has. I think this team should be ranked at around 20. BYU is a solid team, but Michigan couldn't have made them look worse. If we are capable of doing that to a bowl team, we can beat anyone.

At least for one week and hopefully more..... it felt like I was transported in a time machine back to the 1980's and was watching a vintage Michigan football team that was well discipline, well coached, and well prepared absolutely dominate!!!!!

"I don't care about the National Championship because people vote for that.  Give me the Big Ten, we win that on the field."  or something to that affect..

Win the BIG, the rest takes care of itself.

I hope those pencil necks vote for everyone else. Let's see how those votes work out for the sorry bastards that run into this team from this week out.  The talent was always there, and now they have a coaching staff that develops it.   YIkes

How could we not be the best team they've faced. We throughly annihilated them. We had 5 penalties for 53 yards. They passed for 55 and ran for 50. It's not even close.
