Maize? Pick a maize, even if it's a mustard. If it's the price one has to pay to get old-school black football shoes and a 1969 era dark blue jersey, then sure, I'll go along with whatever shade of maize would swing things toward that goal.
Heck, I've always chanted "Let's go, Blue" not "Let's go, Maize."

But what if, like, what I see as maize, isn't what you see as maize? Man
On my smart phone, the official maize has the orange hue.
On my laptop, the official maize doesn't have the orange hue.
Anyone who doesn't agree is probably going blind from syphilis.
So the biggest cause of blindness is the excessive masturbation our mothers warned us about.
Be careful what you wish for................
Nike VOLT

Wikipedia (which is of course never wrong) lists those as the "official" color coordinates of maize.
That said, I don't like those colors.

My first memories of U-M football are from the early 80s, so my vote is definitely for (255,203,5). But so many choices!!!
More polls, more polls.. I nailed it but since ive grown up surrounded by corn i guess i had an advantage.
Football season cant start soon enough
Maybe it should be noted that besides the fact that your screens are all tuned differently (unless you like me recently tuned it for print publishing standardization). If you've got a new iPhone replacement screen you're seeing a really washed out version. If you've got an older monitor chances are you're seeing a really orange version.
And your eyes are all different. Genetically it's impossible that everyone is seeing the same colors, though that may or may not affect how you feel about them. You have little red, blue and greed photoreceptors in your eyes that let in just that color and your brain then remixes them to form an image. No two eyeballs have the same photorecptors or the same tuning. Colorblind people often lack an entire set (usually red, which was the last one to develop in primates so we could see fruit against trees).
Dogs, by the way, don't have red receptors so they see the whole world in maize and blue. Gotta love dogs!
Good point Seth....and according to my dog, he refuses to see green or red and considers both of those colors non-existent and equally unworthy of seeing.

What's this web color value stuff? Pantone Matching System or bust.
The official Pantone is 7406 (Blue is 282)

Yay, I picked official! I feel more secure in my fandom.
This thread has me craving Kraft Mac and Cheese. Maybe we should partner with them and put a noodle in front of the big house?
The maize they list as the "Nike" maize must be from the first couple of years we had Nike, or it looks different on my monitor than it does in real life, because I have lots of Nike gear from 1997 on and I even have a Nike shirt from the last year we had Nike....and guess what?.....it's almost the same as the Adidas yellow, just slightly less "highlighter", but not much.
I don't care what the official color is, stephenrjking made a post yesterday full of historical photos and the football team hasn't been wearing the official color for as long as color photography has existed. The only pants in those photos that are close to the official color are on other teams. So I think all the people lobbying for the official color seem to be traditionalists longing for a past that never existed.
This was the photo he posted at the end, and I agree. This is how the football team should look, whatever the "official" colors are. And the official colors are nowehere near this or any other color we've ever worn.
I tried picking as close to this as I could without going too highlighter, and picked FECF200*. Maybe one of the lighter ones would match replicate the picture better, but it wouldn't be an orangey one.
*Extra zero? FECF20?
That orangey-yellow, just doesn't look right to me, because it's from an era from before I was alive and I'm not that young. The '97 colors are perfect and tie in with a great time in our history, so let's roll with that Maize!
want something a little more hip as well. We can save the grandpa yellow from 1975 for retro t-shirts.
Our colors were never orangy yellow. The bright yellow is not just a '90's thing.
But the official 05 was very close. I didn't realize until reading the comments that the options had previously been labeled. I had concluded that others were much better than I at distinguishing the subtle difference between 05 and 19. It would have been interesting to see how the voting shook out without labels the entire time.
Only the first 250 of them, 190 or so of which went to the official color. Since then the Iowa yellow has come back but the most popular remains the official color.
...when your vote turns out to be "washed out from 70s."
Also, why not vote for shade of blue while we're at it?
It used to be a very dark navy, even in bright sunlight.

And I genuinely like the orangy color. I picked the official color after the labels were removed. My second favorite was the "70s" color.
Of course, I would be happy if we went with the 2006 Michigan uniforms-- which is closer to the Iowa color, but I always thought that era had the best looking unis.
