"Young man, great job out there today, you were the best player on the field and I saw with my own eyes that you are a competitor. Buuuut, I can't offer you a scholarship since you are only rated 2 stars at ObsesiveMiddleageCollegeFootballFan.com."

Don't be a goofus, be a Harbaugh!

Welcome D Rex!

This is the first time I've ever thought...this kid is wayyyyyy underrated. How is he not ranked?

Love it. Word that comes to mind is 'solid'.

To hear that some kid accidentally lays a hit on Harbaugh that lays him out.  And he gets immediately offered because coach likes the way he hits.

So the coaches can't recruit at the camps but they can offer the players after the camps are over? Wouldn't that still be recruiting? You get to see the players and evaluate them then offer them. I'm not complaining that we are getting commitments from these camps just wondering how this works.

i think the key phrase/summary of your analysis is the bit about 'if someone had told me he's a 4-star i wouldn't have batted and eyelash'.

i agree with your assessment about his speed, change of direction, and general mobility.  just out of curiousity, do you have a read on character and academics for the lad?

So I watched the kids film and he plays hard, loves to hit, and being from Bama you know he is a ball player at heart...

But am I the only one weirded out by this being an instant commit offer? We are in great positions with Jon Jones, D Jackson, and C Kelly. Harding is already in the class. We will pursue Camilo Eifler until the end. Would we take 5 linebackers?! I finished my class prediction this morning and this throws it way off. We will see how big this class gets I guess

You're kind of right, but is it us finding busts or is it the culture we have had for 8 years ruining good players? A friend of mine and I always get into an argument about Cass Tech. I defend them, he says everyone of their players comes out highly rated and then busts. But you look at other schools who have taken CT kids and they've done well. Joe Barksdale plays in the NFL, Dior Mathis got solid pt at Oregon this year. Even the Jets(lol) still saw an NFL player in Will Campbell. We have had bad coaching for 8 years now (RichRod himself is a good coach but his positional coaches weren't and the team was losing). We have had a lot of kids underperform their recruiting rankings, but that is going to happen when they aren't coached. This isn't like basketball or baseball where sometimes the best players could go right to the pros, that doesn't happen in football. Even the freak types like Clowney and (most-likely) Peppers need a few years of maturation and technical training.

I just think it is hard to call kids busts when they were never put in an environment in which they could thrive. With Harbaugh I am not worried about our final class ranking because I know that he has thoroughly vetted kids, watched film, and when they get here he can coach them to their potential. He's done it at Stanford, one of the hardest places to recruit before he got them right. However, it makes a coaches job a lot easier when you pull in the Jabrill Peppers and Rashan Garys of the world.

Mr Davis you get a BIG +1 and a DITTO!!! After the last 4 years I don't give a crap about rankings anymore. If Harbaugh likes him and offers him then I am good!!! Look at what our last 3-4 year 5 star or top recruits have produced!? Terry Richardson, Shane Morris, Kyle Kali's, Pipkins, etc. From here on out I am Not gonna question a Peru visiting, khaki pant wearing, pasty white Dad bod, wearing two hats at the same time and running sprints with campers. Dude seems crazy...I am now officially down with crazy!!!

I watched a couple minutes of the film.  It stood out to me how well he played in space.  He looked very good covering guys outside.

In my day LB's were just thumpers to stop the run behind the DL.  These days you better have some pass cover skills and he looked good.

Congrats and welcome.  His stock will move up.

His read-and-reacts are excellent.  He fills in the gap and then flashes to the runner in a straignt line with no wasted tentative motion.  He's a very good open field tackler around the hips and legs.  I didn't see him bounce off any shoulders in that video.

I bet Saban is pretty excited that Harbaugh found a prospect deep under the radar in Saban's own backyard at a satelite camp.

He also play S... But the way JH has been recruting athletes and freak of nature (I mean ... 4.5 on 40 is impressive)... I could be wrong that he could end in many positions and play...

This kid has great film.

I really don't know much about what to look for, but the guy seemed to know where the plays where going, stayed where he was supposed to, laid the wood and was fast.

I imagine his stock will rise quickly. Dude looks awesome.

why people trust rivals, scout, 247, etc over JIM MOTHERFUCKING HARBAUGH WHO HAS COACHED IN THE GODDAMN SUPERBOWL is a complete mystery to me.

if starzzz rule the gridiron, how do you explain Hoke and RR's teams having their asses handed to them by MSU?

Pulling three kids from a talent rich state like Alabama in one year is a great start. It doesn't matter if these kids were all 1*, no stars, whatever. We are on the board and officially on the radar. People down here follow college football like religion and they follow the careers of local kids with incredible amounts of pride. Harbaugh has planted a Michigan flag and if any of these 3 have success at Michigan, the pipeline will flow--strongly. The higher rates kids will start taking notice, you can guarantee it. This is a 5 yr plan, it's pretty brilliant.

Exactly. It's always interesting to read up on the dynamics of a program in the 2 or 3 years preceding a championship. You can often isolate a couple of strategic moves that led directly to the team's success.

I have a strong feeling that 3-4 years from now we're going to pinpoint this summer as the turning point for a very successful run. Go Blue!

Awesome.  Doesn't matter what me or you think.  Harbs & Co had 3 hours to evaluate him, and felt confident extending an offer (seemingly knowing he'd commit) even when we have some big time LBers in the mix.  Really excited about this kid and the FUTURE!  Zach Smith's tweets got me fired up.  Can't wait to have a badass program again.
