Does anyone know the latest on Weber?

Submitted by YoungGeezy on

I've seen a number of reports on the Weber/OSU saga, but I haven't seen much other than "Everyone with the exception of Ohio State is upset."

I know Weber's mom isn't a fan of UM after some morons attacked her son on social media, but I'm curious if there's any update on if he's for sure going to OSU, trying to get out of his LOI, considering Michigan, or somewhere else entirely.

Thanks guys. I'll hang up and listen.

Our horse IS higher.

I spent my youth (a long, long time ago) in that state down south.  Your fans were barbaric then, they were when I was in the band at Michigan where they would throw batteries at our instruments so as to dent them (who the f*ck does that?!), and they continue to be so today (why else can a"well-behaved" OSU entire Michigan Stadium and not worry for their life where the converse is most certainly not true?

My mother would not allow me to go to OSU and it had nothing to do with the previous paragraph, but with the original reason one selects a school - academics.  There was a certifiably insane psychopath in my high school class.  His college of choice? THE Ohio State University.  Don't think he graduated though.... As above so below.  That nut case was burning couches in Chesterland OH long before he got to Columbus.  Cutting corners, faking grades, burning couches is in your DNA.

Use your slimy moral relativism all ya want.  It does not make bad behavior good.  We are smarter than you, we are nicer than you, and when one of ours f*cks up we take care of it.  The fact that your sleazy modus is not just accepted but promoted to the point that you can actually win a Natl Championship is more an indictment of the late American Empire than anything else.  My only solace is that I never was nor ever will be a Buckeye.

Which part?  Your compatriots throwing batteries?

Craig XYZ West Geauga class of '82, psychopath of the year?

Oh, and as a Michigan WOMAN, I find the ways that your Band Director had to resign in disgrace to be sickening and saddening in kind.  Wasnt any different thirty years ago....  But then, y'all be energy bunnies in repugnance.  90% of this board wont even know what went on in your vaunted band.  I do.  I had high school classmates that went through that deviance.

Our band is "worse"?  I may not like that the current shows dont insprire like those under Revelli (ya know, the guy who taught you "Script Ohio"?), but there never was nor is the DEVIANCE that goes on in the (and I use the apostrophe for FULL effect) "TBDBITL".

I say it again THANK GOD! I never was, nor ever will be a Buckeye.

Ahh, yes call me "Crazy."

Cuz your fans dont throw batteries at the band.

Cuz de kidz in Cbus dont burn couches.

Cuz you cant enter Michigan Stadium in Scarlet and Gray and I can enter the Horseshoe in my Maize n Blue.

Because athletes at OSU graduate without being able to read (and JHarbs frets about which degree his boyz might get!)

Cuz your coach cheats and is sent packin, but four years later you want to inshrine the b*$tard.

Et cetera, et cetera, oh, and,

BECAUSE YOUR BAND DIRECTOR WASNT FIRED FOR SICK MISOGYNISTIC SHIT.

You really cant answer to the degenerates in the band can you?  Cant blame you, cuz its sick.  But then your response is to call me crazy?! And its hilarious?

Whats hilarious is that you troll Michigan boards for whatever highly complex psychological gratification you might achieve.  Actually, thats not hilarious, thats just frickin pathetic.

Im done.

I think Weber's mom's attack on UM fans displays either extreme naivete or strategy. Its really simple-minded to hold the actions of a few fans as a proxy for the entire fanbase. She is probably not that simple minded. I suspect that in terms of her son going to UM (or rather not going to UM), she had a solution looking for a problem. She found one and seized it.

that it's best to just stay off of Twitter if you don't want to read crappy troll-posts about your son - especially if he switched his mind and changed commitments.  I'm not at all saying Weber did anything at all wrong.  He's perfectly entitled to switch what school he was committed to.  But the reality is that Twitter has a lot of a-holes hiding behind anonymous user names who seem to love to pile hate on high school athletes.  The best advice high school coaches can give recruited players like Weber is it's best to just stay off of Twitter.  And if they do go on it, it's at their own risk.

I've been relatively sympathetic about Weber's plight, but I do believe some of the garbage that has been heaped upon him was of his own doing by implying that Michigan lied to him when Higdon committed.

Everyone even remotely close to Michigan recruiting knew that Harbaugh was not putting all of his eggs in one basket; this information was publicly available on this website several days before NSD as well as on Sam Webb's show. Didn't Harbaugh shoot for a Badger RB well before signing day?

I also wonder if Weber's mother has been reading 11 Warriors.  Some posters are sympathetic, but many are not.

With the obvious disclaimer that our fanbase is 90% saints and 10% idiots and OSU's is 10% tolerable and 90% mouthbreathing unclefuckers....

I'm sure Ms. Weber would probably have a thing or two to say to the mouthbreathers trawling the Elven Warriors comment section if she'd read the site, but keep in mind that idiot Michigan fans are going to register on her radar more than Big Lots Buckeyes would mostly because she lives in SE Mich and therefore probably has to take more shit from bad M fans.

an  example of recruiting gone awry, all the way around. And so now you are getting all the seamy results of a horrible blowup.

I think the kid was stressed going into signing day and was getting pushed to keep a commitment that he had changed and then was being pushed to reconsider by two powerful coaches and schools who hate each other.

I believe he was simply a pawn in a pr game. Telling a coach no is way more difficult than saying yes when you are torn between your loyalties to a school you rooted for growing up and another tthat you promised to stick with after changing your mind.

Disclosure and a cooling off period would have helped this kid immensely. He didn't need to sign on signing day, and then the Drayton departure to the Bears would be a moot issue, regardless of whether he was hurt by the failure of this coach to let him know he was staying on Meyer's staff to coach him.

He could have just said, wth support from his parents, we need some time to sort this out and we'll decide whenever. Timing is everything.

Look, if a high school wants to protect its kids from bad decsion-making, then it ought to facilitate help to them through the signing process instead of just offering a backdrop for a signing ceremony. Don't sign under duress. Wait. Commit when you feel comfortable. Get legal avice on signing, what your rights are and aren't, what one agreement over another provides in that regard.

Finally, if your son is a high profile athlete these days, he becomes a public figure. And as such, whether justified or not, he is open to criticism. And technology and social media makes that a massive problem in terms of choices and acceptance of those. We would like to offer all kinds of protection to our children which simply isn't possible. So, we have to make good decisions and hope for the best even when others challenge or criticize.

Webber is a retired professional basketball player. He was a five-time NBA All-Star, a five-time All-NBA Team member, a former NBA Rookie of the Year, and a former #1 overall NBA and played at Michigan as part of the Fab Five.

Why do you all keep spelling his name wrong???

aside from the tweet about being hurt.  His family hasn't said anything other than Mom's facebook post about Michigan fans.  I'd imagine OSU's new RB Coach Alford is giving him the full court press.

These posts are crazy.  People do not withhold information on this site.  When info is available, it will be shared.

Since this is now a speculation thread, my guess is he is going to OSU.  Much easier to out out a fire and recruit a kid that's already signed.

please describe the duration, sound profile, and smell of the fart?  Was there more than one?  We're you there to witness the fart in person, or are you relying on a 2nd hand report?

This is important information!

If there was news, it would have been on the board with something in the neighborhood of 235 replies already.

I'm over this issue, not to say that I have any problem with the folks that are still following.  I'm not going to lie either -- I will still click the links if actual real news is being reported.  It's just a matter of personal preference.  I feel lucky that we have 3-4 RBs with good-to-great potential in the program right now.

I think we have seen Derrick Green's potential already unless he isnt going to be asked to read any more zone blocking. And DeVeon Smith is a tough runner, but he's kind of a poor man's Joique Bell to me. Other than that I would say there is one RB with great potential (Isaac), one very interesting guy whose role isnt clear (Shallman), and a decent to good recruit from a highly scouted area. There is good football on the SW FL coast, and his production there speaks well for his future, but he wasnt a world beater.

I would guess that if he was going to take action against OSU and try to get out of this situation, we would have heard about it by now. They're probably doing everything they can to get him familiar with the new RBs coach and hope he calms down. In any case I'm not holding my breath. To be honest I'm much more curious and hopeful about Roquan Smith. Sorry, I don't have enough points to make a thread about it, but has anyone heard anything on that front?

Based on Wilcher's comments yesterday I don't think Mikey or his family will stirring up a shitstorm. The kid feels betrayed but he'll end up playing at OHIO. Fwiw, If I were his parents I would never allow it...

and not engage folks on twitter, other social media or here when it comes to some kid deciding where he wants to go to school.

Specifically for the kid in question, any speculation about what he is going to do next isn't helping anybody and certainly not him.

The above is the last I will post on this situation.
