But why shouldn't we make them special in Ann Arbor? I'd personally hate to think of night games as a routine. Just because every other place considers night games as an almost everyday occurrence doesn't mean we have to.

Night games don't have to be against marquee teams. I know we're new to night games in Ann Arbor, but come on. SEC teams play night games all the time and not all of them are against top-tier competition.

I'd like to see either Oregon State or BYU I think (and probably BYU a slight preference).
In order of desirability (for me):
- BYU
- Oregon State
- Northwestern
- Rutgers
- UNLV

The better question is, how do you pull the trigger on tickets that aren't even available yet?

I have a source who has two extras in the Ross open seats. I can only afford them one game! He takes reservations in January so have to make my decision now.

I look at these:
- Oregon State
- UNLV
- BYU
- Northwestern
- Michigan State
- Rutgers
- Ohio State
If we were to adhere to the guideline that the MSU and OSU games are not in the discussion for being night games, not knowing yet how this adminstration feels about that prospect, then I am OK with none this year, although if we really had to have one, BYU might be the most compelling of the remaining games.
2016 lines up with:
- Hawaii
- UCF
- Colorado
- Wisconsin (this one right here - I like the idea)
- Penn State
- Illinois
- Maryland
- Indiana

Would love to see Wisconsin be a night game!

We open on the road in 2015...was thinking about a road trip...but I kinda wish we opened on the road in 2016 instead.

Noon Games are the worst thing in the world...I get the whole tradition thing, but things change...In the words of Tom Brady not enough time for the fans to get "lubed up". I would prefer if we were like LSU and we never played another homegame with the sun up. We have those beautiful lights...may as well use them!

You must not have a wife yet. And, judging by your avatar, you must get to tailgate the games a lot. (Sincere apologies if I guessed wrong.)
If that is the case, and I were in your shoes, I'd want all night games too. Tailgating all day and getting lubed up is one of my favorite things to do. Me wanting all noon kick-offs is out of pure selfishness, nothing more.
I'm sure many of you can feel my pain, and don't get me wrong I love my life and family, but.....
.....I am such in irrational hard to deal with person leading up to kick-off every fall Saturday, that it makes my wife unhappy. Unhappy wife, unhappy life or something like that. Due to the whole family with young children deal, the responsible thing to do is avoid beverages of the lubing variety...in case the nerd in my avatar decides to climb on the table and jump off or something equally ridiculous. I must be coherent enough to take care of such situations.
Noon kickoffs allow me to watch some cartoons with the kids, eat a little breakfast, and boom, game on, less stress for me and family(selfish, yes).
Sometimes, the wife would rather I start drinking at noon than deal with me between the hours of noon and whatever time the late game starts. She says I am easier to deal with and much more pleasent. Therefore......I should be permanently lubed!!! This, my wife disagrees with. Something about responsibility she says.
Anyway....whatever time the game starts I watch every last second of it. Go Blue!!!

Can we please stop branding these games as UTL? It makes us sound like backwoods rednecks marveling at the wonder of electricity.
It's just a night game.

Our non-conference home games this year should strategically be at noon.
They are all against opponents from the West and making them wake up earlier than they are used to, due to the time change, is an advantage.
Conversely, a night game should be against a team from the Eastern Time Zone to make them stay up later.
Attack the peripheral of the opponent's natural body rythem via scheduling.

And a random fact: Oregon State was also our home opener when Harbaugh was a senior. Let's go all out.

Why not at night? Would work for me. We don't have Davey B in charge, so let's see what Hackett wants to do. I don't know why Harbaugh wouldn't want to play the game at night.
January 9th, 2015 at 2:32 PM ^
Why not? Because we don't want to deal with 10-20,000 Spartan fans who have been drinking all day long in our city. And we especially don't want to have our fans have to go there and deal with many more massively drunk Spartan fans in EL.
They are a different breed than ND fans and we should stick to playing them during the day.

Bama/Auburn, Bama/LSU, and I'm sure several others play each other at night almost every year. You didn't see Auburn backing down from night games after the Harvey Updyke incident. Additional security would be needed, granted, but it's still just a lame excuse when other big rivals do it every year.

And closer to home, Penn State plays big rivalry games at night with no issues.
It gives them a competitive advantage too. I can think of a few times where they got wins against both Michigan and Ohio State that they ahd no business getting.
January 9th, 2015 at 3:15 PM ^
I remember when everyone on this board was against night games for security reasons. They eventually happened and now everyone loves them.
Now they're against playing MSU or OSU at night for security reasons. Eventually it will happen and everything will work out.
That being said, I don't need to see MAC teams and other lesser teams at 3:30. I dislike noon games as much as the next guy, but last year 3:30 games against Miami OH, Indiana, and Maryland was totally unnecessary.

as Coach Harbaugh's first game, but it could also be Northwestern as Jim's first Big 10 home game. I think 2014 set a nice post-ND precedent for having a "big" Big 10 rival be the night game. Northwestern is obviously "meh" but there is some tradition there, and it will be exciting regardless of the opponent because of JH. In the coming few years it can be (without looking at the exact schedules, off the top of my head) Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Iowa. I think they may need to try MSU in there at some point too.

Makes sense to have it as the Big Ten opener.
