Moeller could also be OL coach. Wheatley could also be RB coach. You could have a TE coach, QB coach, WR coach, DL coach, LB coach, and DB coach to fill out the staff. Co-cordinators work for MSU and Buckeyes.

Moeller interviewed in 07 with JH to be Stanford OL coach was offered and decoded not to take the job. Becore Michigan Moeller was run game coordinator for Army. Played for Moeller ao I know this fo be true.

it looks like our distinguished alums are downright pissed off at the state of our program.  This ain't all (or even mostly) about money.

If this was true, which I doubt at this point, it's funny that the blog that was so dismissive of the Michigan Man meme is now so happy about a fantasy staff loaded with Michigan Men.

By his senior year --- and maybe before that --- LB Andy Moeller (1983-1986) was the defensive signal caller on the field and an all-around excellent football player. He was an assistant coach at M for 7 years (2000-2007). His entire 27-year career has been as a football coach. A better coordinator for whoever takes over as HC would be hard to find.

Back when Jim said to fire Brandon. My hunch is that this is a done deal and 49ers found out about it and are trying to get Jim to go for a trade. But it is not happening. I would not be surprised if Jim leaves this week or is fired and heads for Ann Arbor by Friday! For the first time I feel rather excited that Jim may actually be our coach! Much sooner than I expected!!!!

If you're going to put it all out on the line with Harbaugh, now's the time.  It's before the end of the season, which means you're not going to get strong overtures from other NFL teams whose current situations are most likely not settled.  This is the best time to put Harbaugh on the spot.  I think it's now or never.  If we don't know in the next couple of days, more NFL teams will come calling and it's probably over.  We just need to hold tight.

I love the direction this is going. A move away from all the over weight bald senior citizens to a young, in shape vibrant staff. Keep Manning on and let the rest of the dead weight go. Actually, I wouldn't be crushed if Nuss stayed on to give him an actual chace. If nothing else we saw improvement on the d-line. Just get some young guys in here.

Not necessarily, college football has become more and more popular the past 50yrs or so..look at ticket prices, coaches salaries and the game itself has become more and more enjoyable. While NFL has a slight edge over college due to the money/revenues/best athletes in the country, college football is also starting to become like NFL as well..give it time and college guys will get paid too

It's different.  Harbaugh has established himself as an extremely desirable head coach, so he doesn't have anywhere to climb at this point, and he's sure to make a shitload of money wherever he goes.  Wheatley's not there yet.  Going back to college as an RB coach would be an extremely risky, bold move.  It's not out of the question - for one, who knows about his job status and happiness with the Bills - but that would be a very different situation from Harbaugh's.  If we get Wheatley, it likely involves some kind of title that's a step up from RB coach.

Andy Moeller had quite a bit of success as a college OL coach in some aspects, but kind of sputtered late at Michigan, where he seemed to only develop half a line a lot of the time. He's had some decent years in the NFL, but overall his NFL time hasn't been a highlight. Still, an NFL OL coach with extensive college experience (even at Michigan, which is another plus) is likely a plus. His time in the NFL is likely limited at this point, so it'd make sense for him to want to get back in the college game. Co-OC title would be a way for him to save face, which would help the perception on Michigan's end. I could get on board with that hire without an issue

Wheatley is an up-and-comer. People wanting him as a RB coach aren't seeing reality. The Bills have had maybe the best set of RBs in the NFL in Wheatley's time in Buffalo, and even if the Buffalo staff was gone, Wheatley could fairly easily find another NFL job. A promotion by title is all but required for Wheatley, and for a guy with his resume, a Co-OC position at the college level is likely the minimal step up that he would receive at this point. He's relatively young (42), black, and has had a good deal of success as a coach. Yeah, I'd get on board with that hire in an instant. You want to talk building a coaching tree, Wheatley very likely would be a great addition to that.

I do find it a bit odd that one was a RB and the other an OL coach. Typically you have one that is a QB/WR/TE coach and the other is a RB/OL/TE coach and you can split up the duties a bit by run game and pass game. It will usually be only one of them that calls the plays, but one Co-OC will be responsible for gameplanning one aspect and looking for things to exploit in that portion of the offense, while the other will take the other responsibility. That doesn't necessarily have to be the case though (at MSU, Bollman is a long time OL guy that coaches TEs now and is Co-OC with the primary play caller, Warner, who coaches the RBs, though he coached the QBs before taking over the Co-OC position). I'd guess Wheatley would call the plays and they'd split up gameplanning responsibilities and, as much as anything, just have titles.

One odd fit here is that Moeller is very, very much a zone guy, and a zone stretch guy more than anything. Harbaugh loves pulling OL, he loves Power, and Traps, and things of that nature. He also uses inside zone quite a bit. So a zone stretch OL coach is a little bit of an odd fit.

Also, Durkin would be a strong hire. He was the DE/ST coach under Harbaugh at Stanford. He then coached LBs at Florida from 2010-2012 and then was the DC from 2013-2014. The guy has been groomed by Muschamp, who is as strong of a defensive (and LB) mind as there is. That would be a great start to the coaching staff.

Not sure how I feel about it. Re: Moeller, look at Cleveland. Of course, that may be, in large part, because the team, in general, stinks. Re: Durkin, the last two seasons were awful for Florida, 4-8 and 6-5. Again, it may not be indicative of Durkin's ability to coach, but I cannot help but notice that against ok to great teams, Florida was giving up a lot of points - 30 against Kentucky, 42 against Bama, 30 against LSU, 42 against Missouri. They did better against Georgia and FSU, in the 20s.
