John U. Bacon on ESPN Sportscenter at 9:05pm EST

Submitted by Simps on

Bacon will be on Sportscenter at 9:05pm to discuss the Michigan situation. Thought some people here might be interested.

He posted this on Twitter. (Can't embed tweet on mobile)

Edit: here's the link he posted in the tweet http://espn.go.com/video/sportscenter

So I'm not sure if it's on the ESPN news live showing of Sportscenter at 9pm or if it'll just be a clip at the above link.

Edit 2 Summary: thinks Hoke may be fired tomorrow.

Asked about his legacy and he said Hoke is well liked but with a mediocre record.

Asked about who he wants as the next coach and he said Jim Harbaugh emphatically.

Smugly asked about chances Michigan lands Jim or Les and he responded that Jim was trickier but he quoted Les from one of his books saying "I'll never say no to Michigan"

Asked for percentages of next coach he said 51% Jim Harbaugh, 25% Les Miles and 24% for the rest of the world.

Name one thing that was opinion.  The whole book was written with the support of sourcing and it's not JUB's fault that a lot of his sources didn't want their names out there.  As usual, people tend to create their own truths when they don't like the actual truth.

People like JUB, Sam et al have their reputations to worry about.  Unlike most of us they actually make a living at discussing the future of Michigan football, and so I don't think they take wild ass guesses on stuff that doesn't at least come from a good source.

Both these guys have said that Harbaugh is in play. I'll freely admit that part of me gives them the benefit of the doubt because Harbaugh.  But I also recognize and appreciate that they're taking a real risk through that prediction, and so it seems to me that there's something there.

Hoke is gone tomorrow and we will get Bacon's read on the impending hire.  I know most of his info is speculative, but at least he always labels it as such.

JUB was on the outside during the DB firing sequence. It would be nice if he was now on the inside enough that his interviews were coordinated to support rather than sabotage the AD in the most important HC decision since . . . the last one (by "sabotage," I mean like Herbstriet/Miles).

The guy is personal friends with both Harbaugh and Miles. He has a read on the situation that almost nobody else does. I'd imagine that most of his TV appearance tonight will be talking about why Hoke will get fired and not speculating too much on the next coach beyond throwing some names out, but just because he wasn't inside the Brandon department doesn't mean he has no idea what he's talking about. Nobody knows exactly what's up Hackett's sleave, but people can use different channels to guage interest of potential candidates that Hackett very well may persue.

Bacon gets shit on a lot for not always "breaking something new." What is he supposed to do? Spew meaningless speculation? He makes a living as a journalist and writer, and often gets asked to make appearances to talk about Michigan football. He's getting asked for a reason--because he has a solid idea of the general state of the landscape in Ann Arbor and what direction the coaching search may go. Should he turn them down?

a guy that has lived Michigan is going to be the one to F something up this time. Nice. He'll go on there and speculate the (likely) obviousness about Hoke and then throw out names that will or won't be hired, leading to endless questioning to those he names. Unless he's genuinely breaking a story there isn't anything good going to come of it. Maybe nothing will but it won't be good so why bother other then to sell a few more boo...OK, NOW I GET IT.

What has he said that was factually incorrect on our current situation? And can anybody point to an instance where he speculated and did not clearly identify what he was saying was his speculation?

Recently people here were pissed when he went on the radio and DIDNT offer anything new. Now people are unhappy because he might offer something new.

Seems to me that some just don't like John U and anything he does is a problem. I wonder if the content of his recent books played any role in that.

I wonder......

I liked his books.  But I also read through his last couple of posts before Brandon was gone and found them to be just, I don't know, bleh.  Sometimes people can just get annoyed with someone without their being a deeper meaning or bias behind it; lord knows I've had that in my life before.  But Bacon comes across as an insider who "speculates" because he's a smart journalist and knows not to paint them as anything more than that.  Which is fine.  But it doesn't mean I have to read stuff about AD budgets (without any context) or veiled references to communication "issues" on the sidelines as gospel.

I don't have a particular problem with Bacon, but I've grown a bit tired of him over the past couple months. I think that's all it is, people getting tired of him taking every opportunity to talk about the situation with M athletics, and the coaching change. I haven't read any of his books, btw.

He's a journalist, and probably the highest-profile nationally when it comes to Michigan Athletics. Who can blame him, as a professional journalist, when he's contacted to do an interview and he does it? This is his job. What else is he supposed to do?

Monday Night Football is on ESPN and NBA Coast to Coast is on ESPN 2 at 900 (following the end of Neb.-Fla. State basketball game).  ESPN U also has college basketball scheduled.  Is this just a quick interview on some kind of sports roundup, or will his interview be shown later on Sports Center? Thanks.

They hated on RR from the beginning, and then subsequently hated JUB even though his take on RR's three years was pretty balanced.  Who else do you want ESPN talking to?  Drew Sharp?  Rosenberg?  Snyder?

God forbid we hire another creative offensive mind so the motherfuckers responsible for undermining the program can later call themselves heroes.
