Bacon's Latest: New Coach Won't Be a Surprise Name
John U. Bacon on WTKA this morning:
- The new coach won't be another RichRod (an outsider).
- The new coach won't be another Hoke (a mid-level relative unknown who does have Michigan ties).
- The new coach WILL be one of the 4-5 names that won't go away: Jim Harbaugh, Les Miles, etc.
He claims no inside knowledge - these are just gut feelings. Nothing new really, but when JUB speaks, it's always worth a thread.

Fun fact: Corso always waves a Dixon Ticonderoga pencil on the set - because he used to serve as their business director.

I wouldn't be caught dead waving anything else

Its really not 4-5 names, its really only 2. JH and LM so in other words Michigan fans will be happy with the hire.

does "wont be another outsider" mean it wont be Mullen?
November 21st, 2014 at 8:32 PM ^
Correct.
November 21st, 2014 at 11:52 AM ^
Serious question, who the hell are 4-5 names? John H seems like such a low probability but throw him in? Austin seems like a guy a few of us talk about on the board, not a real candidate. So JH and LM and who are 2-3 others? Even if John is 1 not sure how you get to 4-5. JUB has been saying Miles or one of the JHs for 2 months. That's 3.
November 21st, 2014 at 12:15 PM ^
There's only 3 non outsiders that I want. I can't think of 1-2 others that I'd want. There's not really a lot of good outsider coaches this year anyways besides Mullen so we need to get Les Miles or the Harbaughs.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again:
With all of this foreplay, it is going to be one hell of a money shot.
November 21st, 2014 at 12:10 PM ^
+1 for the cum shot comment
November 21st, 2014 at 1:53 PM ^
Minus one for taking it where it didn't need to go. We all got the reference, lets keep this sophisticated.
November 21st, 2014 at 3:50 PM ^
Monocle is in. What next do to sophisticate please? Thanks.
November 21st, 2014 at 12:12 PM ^
So... CC: Ron Jeremy?
November 21st, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
Na, Peter North.
November 21st, 2014 at 3:55 PM ^
Yep, a better choice. North was successful on both sides of the ball...
November 21st, 2014 at 12:10 PM ^
but this morning he did the same thing that everybody else is: talked off the top of his head with no inside information to back it up. He's just guessing, and admitted as such.
November 21st, 2014 at 12:12 PM ^
I wouldnt say a guess, I would say an educated guess meaning he knows more than he will tell, he may not know the whole story but he knows enough in my opinion.
November 21st, 2014 at 12:30 PM ^
I would disagree. JUB's guess is worth way more than mine. He has access to decision makers and has sources close to many people in this process. He has ability to make his guess based on actual data, whereas guys like Gergg Henson are just making shit up.
November 21st, 2014 at 3:55 PM ^
Hilariously, the whole Sam Webb/JH coaching staff drama confirmed that Gregg Henson does indeed have at least one actual, real-life source.

It will be Jim Harbaugh, Les Miles or Brady Hoke. In that order. My gut feeling.

I believe that too but I think he could be a plan C or D guy, especially if they beat Maryland and win a bowl. They could sell how the team performed despite all the negative things on and off the field. I don't think they get past Les Miles though.

useless speculation is useless

Jim Harbaugh
John Harbaugh
Les Miles
Who else?

... of this outsider bullshit. Since when did Michigan become so xenophobic? The value that outsiders bring to any community is what leads to growth and innovation. If this is a real attitude, we will fail in the long term.
November 21st, 2014 at 1:18 PM ^
I don't think of Jim Harbaugh as an insider. Once he left Michigan, he separated himself from the Michigan machine. He spoke out against practices at Michigan, rankling just about everyone. Harbaugh does what he wants and if anything should scare those who want to pull strings in the department, it would be that.

Dorsey was not cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse, meaning he would not have gotten into any 4-year university. This is why he never played college ball other than for community colleges.
Pac Man was admitted into WVU and therefore would have been admitted at Michigan.
RR failed, because he hired GERG to run the D, after firing Schaffer (who by all accounts is actually a good coach).
Also, UNC isn't a good football program, and FSU has been better after their scandal. Moreover, just because a coach played for Bo, doesn't make them ethical. I don't give a damn what John U's gut says, but Schissel has said that being a "Michigan Man" is not a criteria for the job. How could he, since if it were that big a deal, Brandon would be President of the University.

There's 2 names that meet his criteria...but not in a positive way.
I take these comments more as, "Chill out. They know they can't F this up again"
November 21st, 2014 at 12:34 PM ^
niether of those names would be considered names "that won't go away." since you are literally the first person who has brought up either name in seriousness.
November 21st, 2014 at 2:13 PM ^
Not in any way.
November 21st, 2014 at 12:32 PM ^
His analysis of things past is value added...Rabacking the CC is not. Sam's gut on the other hand is connected to internal rumblings in the athletic department. I'm not convinced Sam even has connections to Hackett's process at this point.

better the offense had been before this season. JUB also indicated Borges would be willing to bring back GERG to make sure that the defense had a former Michigan Man at the helm.
