Long time Brian Kelly assistant and Univeristy at Buffao HC Jeff Quinn was fired after 4 1/2 years. UB is starting their coaching search immediately.

contrary to popular belief they prefer John.

Quick, before he finds out which Buffalo!

I read some game re-caps on Sunday, sounds like Buffalo quit late in the game.
Bummer for Quinn --- he has the Brian Kelly connections, of course, so maybe he ends up as an assistant at ND some day.

And wouldn't say they quit. They just had zero answer for Eastern's backup QB, and the zone read

He started the first two games and was pulled before the half in both of them.

And that's not the point. The point was, Buffalo defense was shutting eastern down completely, like everyone has. Then a quarterback who didn't start the game, came in and dominated. For the love of god...

Yeah, but did you know his grandma has bunions? Huh? Betcha didn't know that one tough guy!

...former pro football player Ickey Woods will celebrate almost anything?

They didn't quit at the end of the game, they kept fighting until the bitter end. Eastern put up a heck of a game and a heck of a performance by their freshman quarterback.
Some joker (me) posted pictures here:

"We've got great hot wings here - we invented them, in fact!
Niagara Falls is really close to us which is nice during the two weeks of summer we get.
Plenty of winter activities, particularly sledding down the 30 foot mountains of snow that will build up at the end of your driveway.
Did we tell you about the wings?"

Well, that and the $375,000-$550,000 salary that MAC coaches make.

The sad part is when this amount of money to be a football coach became peanuts......

I think you forgot the part about opportunities for teambuilding activities, like going just over the border to navigate the QEW in January. It teaches perserverance and reinforces hard work as you attempt to get around the lake to the Don Valley Parkway in driving snow and wind. Survivors get the "Surf Lake Ontario...In A Blizzard" t-shirt, I think.

On a positive note ... there's a Tim Horton's every 20 feet along that route.

to being that close to niagara falls is "The Sundowner" (sundownerclub.ca) NSFW... now its on the Canadian side but trust me its well worth the trip across the boarder... it would help out with recruiting... :)

I have some 2nd hand connections to the Buffalo staff and was a team I tangentally followed. But that's being a college football coach, especially as an assistant. They had a decent (by program standards) 8-5 season last year and had signs of steady improvement but the only Div 1 team they beat this year was Miami, and they just lost to EMU.
They have an odd schedule, where they have 1 game in 25 days, so I guess if you're going to do it midseason, nows the time.
October 14th, 2014 at 9:07 AM ^
They're 3-4 and their only blowout loss was to Baylor. EMU continues to be a job killer for football coaches.

Was he a Warde Manuel hire?
October 14th, 2014 at 9:18 AM ^
Ok.
Well new AD probably had much shorter leash then the guy who hired him might have had.
Also I think when EMU beats you its pretty much the kiss of death nowadays!

Gruden to Buffalo
October 14th, 2014 at 9:38 AM ^
I was just reading through Gruden's 2nd grade pen pal letters, and he mentioned in there that his dream job was to be head coach at the University of Buffalo. So this makes sense.

My BS is from a MAC school so I follow the MAC closely. This is a bad call by UB.
Quinn took over a bare cupboard in 2010 and the team went predictably 2-10. They improved in 2011, 2012, and again in 2013. Had UB won their final game in 2013 against Bowling Green, they would have won the MAC east. This year the team is down most of their best offensive weapons and a guy on defense named Khalil Mack.
This was going to be a step back year and everybody knew it. It happens in the MAC all the time. Bowling Green lost all kinds of seniors after 2005, then in 2006 with freshmen all over the field BG went 4-8, and then in 2007 BG tied for first in the MAC East and went 8-4. Quinn had the UB program pointed in the right direction but this was going to be his rebuilding year.
And besides ... EMU has a new hot coach named Creighton. The EMU team isn't playing hot but the coach is full of energy. Wins are going to come EMU's way.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:01 AM ^
I hope so. I love what Creighton is doing.

At this point, anyone who loses to Miami (NTM) or EMU should just skip the team bus and walk directly to his car and start packing, apparently.
October 14th, 2014 at 9:59 AM ^
No local talent base, commuter school, little to no history. Anyone who can get them to bowl games with any regularity should be considered a roaring success
October 14th, 2014 at 10:19 AM ^
EMU does well vs UB. 5-1 in the six meetings between the schools so losing to EMU is not that shocking for Buffalo.
October 14th, 2014 at 10:22 AM ^
The Buffalo AD wants UB to be the premiere athletic program in the state of New York. UB is the flagship of the SUNY system, but there is no guarantee of athletic dominance.
Maybe he has not heard of Syracuse Football. You know, Syracuse, a program with some real history, like a national championship and a Heisman winner. And the same Syracuse team, who Buffalo last beat in 1899.
October 14th, 2014 at 10:38 AM ^
Seriously? Dude's delusional.
October 14th, 2014 at 11:06 AM ^
October 14th, 2014 at 1:00 PM ^
UB actually is the flagship university of the SUNYs.
October 15th, 2014 at 2:53 PM ^
the SUNY system doesn't have a designated flagship - there's 4 "university centers" with technically equal footing but with various states of funding.
If you look at the enrollment stats you see that Buffalo doesn't get the strongest in-state kids and that depending on what part of NY you're from you'll gravitate to different schools within the 4.
October 14th, 2014 at 10:30 AM ^
First of all, they're only 3-4 right now (it's Buffalo, not Michigan). If they were already 2-5 or worse, then maybe, but they went 8-5 last year!
It's a little similar to FIU. A perennial mid-major doormat finally gets a year or more of unexpected success but has one bad season that is to be expected and decides to fire the coach. A key difference is that FIU fired the very guy who gave them the first taste of success (Cristobal) and UB did a premature midseason firing. And it's too bad too, because Cristobal was beginning to look like a rising star and now he's a position coach at Alabama. Yes this business demands results but these schools should keep their expectations in check.
