Hoke Presser
SOS as expected. Opening statement:
- lack of execution
- that's on me / coaches
- lack of leverage
- players work their tails off
- our goals are still out there
You can cut and paste the opening statement from almost any game the past 2 years.
Working thru the Q&A as we speak for chuckles.
EDIT - 2nd question was about Shane possible concussion. Answer paraphrased - I don't know that he is concussed. Shane is a tough kid. If he wanted out he would have came to the sidelines.
Mother of god.
EDIT2 - here is the exact quote since it will bring up a lot of discussion. Apparently you are supposed to self diagnose your own injuires.
Well I don't know.. you know.. I don't know...he might have had a concussion or not. I don't know that. And that wasn't something... and Shane's a pretty competitive tough kid. And Shane wanted to be the QB. And so...believe me...if he didn't want to be he would have come to the sideline or stayed down.

It would be this one...

Can someone please ask: "How many long punt returns will it take before you consider changing formations?" or "How many games do we have to lose for you to consider doing something that might help us win?" or "When you're down 16 points with 4:15 left, is punting the worst decision you could ever make, or the second worst decision you could ever make only to starting shane morris over devin gardner?"

The problems of the current program are deeper and more fundemental than schematics.

Combine this latest fiasco with the Gibbons/Lewan stuff and it becomes nigh impossible to conclude anything other than Hoke is incompetent, deceitful or some combination of the two. None of those are tenable characteristics for the head FB coach at the University of Michigan.

The incident occurred in 2009. How is that Hoke's fault?

Hoke has the look of a confused small-business owner who realizes he's gotten in way over his head.
It's his fourth year as head coach and his team can't run the ball, pass the ball or kick the ball effectively.
Our recruiting class is going to be implode any minute now. I'm not a huge fan of making mid-season coaching changes but I don't think we have a choice here.
Realistically, do you guys see him lasting another week if we lose to Rutgers?
September 27th, 2014 at 9:02 PM ^
to do what is honorable, resign. End the public excoriation, be noble and just resign for the good of the program. The University for their part could negotiate a parachute...not the rest of his salary, but something comfortable so he can just go away.
Interim coach, just throwing it out there, and maybe for just titular reasons, ask Lloyd Carr or Gary Moeller to finish the season.

I didn't like the hire and I wanted him out at the end of last year. Last week I stopped watching at half time. Today, the family and I decided to go to dinner and then the cider mill after the first half. I can't recall a time in my life where I stepped away from a game. I never thought I would ever do that....

imo, he looked more sharp and energetic than any other time this season. he even showed some crispness on some passes.
September 27th, 2014 at 9:11 PM ^
Hoke's going to leave them in there, eh? That's officially the standard? God I want him fired with cause and his salary voided, just for that.
This is why there needs to be an NCAA rule mandating legit injury reports, and if you are found to have been deceitful you lose scholarships. The NCAA needs to protect players from knuckle dragging dipshits who are more scared of being fired than they are of permanent injury to their players.

Can we get Muppets the day this jackass is fired?
September 27th, 2014 at 9:20 PM ^
It's clear he has no answers—to anything. Fumbling for answers and keeps falling back on the same old platitudes.
September 27th, 2014 at 9:30 PM ^
The offense is painful to watch. It's like standing around while a four year-old tries to peddle fast with training wheels on. It obvious Gorgeous Al Borges wasn't the problem.
Morris looks completely out of his depth as well. This guy was a highly-touted recruit with a year of experience on the sidelines and he looks like a bugged-out, jittery methhead in the pocket.
Meanwhile it Columbus, JT Barrett is improving with every game and seems poised to have a stellar career.
We're a colossal tire fire right now. I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

If you are a sports reporter, after all this time with Hoke, why even show up for the presser? You get a cut and paste / pull-a-string bunch of responses that you could get from a battery operated toy. The definition of insantiy is doing the same thing over and over expecting different outcomes. He (headphones off) has nothing to add to the game, AND, he has nothing to say after the game. This reminds me of the character "Chauncy Gardner" from the Peter Sellers movie "Being There". I apologize if that reference is too old for most of you out there, but it is becoming more and more obvious that this is now representative of what passes for "coaching" at Michigan.

but not so much any more.
September 27th, 2014 at 10:13 PM ^
I predict a Hoke resignation this week. To put it in perspective, Mo getting bombed and trashing a bar (pre-Internet!) is not as bad as the firestorm that started with the actual sequence of Shane getting hit, Braden calling to the sideline to no avail, followed by the later insertion, and now ending with the inexcusable statements Hoke made at his presser. Shane didn't want to come out? Who is the adult here? What competitive player ever wants to come out? Didn't see the wobble? Maybe if he wore a headset someone could have told him about it. There is no way he survives this.
September 27th, 2014 at 11:07 PM ^
Unless it was something that turned out to be a forced resignation. Hoke won't go unless he's shown the door. This is his dream job - he won't leave it voluntarily if he thinks he has any chance of holding on to it.
September 28th, 2014 at 12:15 AM ^
I seriously doubt the man will actually want to resign, but I expect that he will be asked to do so.
September 28th, 2014 at 12:57 AM ^
But with Brandon as the AD, who knows?
September 27th, 2014 at 10:23 PM ^
I'm expecting an announcement of Hoke's ouster any moment.

I find it unbelievable he would have been the least bit impressive in any kind of job interview.
Did Brandon hire this guy just to be his puppet and its Brandon pulling all the strings. I mean JHC, no other coach in America is this poor with speaking to the media. None of them.

Really, Shane should have been pulled when he first started hobbling. I can't believe they left him in that long. It compounded further and further until it was too late. Really sad too. I feel bad for Shane.
September 27th, 2014 at 11:01 PM ^
Hoke needs to be gone! Enough already, I just saw the video and this is inexcusable! I never in my wildest dreams thought someone could be this incompetent. I no longer think he should make it to the end of the year!

September 27th, 2014 at 11:04 PM ^
I want to hear from Hoke is that he is going to resign. This guy is in over his head and if he really cared about Michigan he would admit that he is not the right man for the job and apologize for stealing the pay he received for the past four years and head for another MAC job.
September 27th, 2014 at 11:06 PM ^
3.5 million reasons to hang on. Since Brandon didn't do the Kiffin, maybe the Board will do a two fer with Brandon on Monday. These kids sure deserve better than having an absolute buffoon at the helm.
Make Belien the interim AD and a hot rock the interim fb coach.
September 28th, 2014 at 7:43 AM ^
c'mon. basketball is starting to heat up. you can't ask him to take the AD job too. there is an assistant AD who could take over on an interim basis. but i agree, both brandon and hoke need to go immediately.

I didn't watch the game, I decided it was a good day to change the brakes/rotors on my car. They work great, took about two hours because I had to run and get an impact wrench to get the rotors off. Anyway, I'm not going to watch until this shit show of a coaching staff is off the sidelines. It's gone from incompetence to negligence and worse. I feel bad for the kids.
September 27th, 2014 at 11:38 PM ^
After this debacle with Shane and exposing him to further injury, I want him gone now. He refuses to talk about injuries so he can "protect his players." He did the complete opposite of that today. He jeopardized Shane's health and sent him back into the game when he likely already has a concussion, or at least symptoms of it. He is showing every recruit in America why they should not come to Michigan.

Plain and simple..... You cannot lead with the crown of your helmet.
September 28th, 2014 at 12:29 AM ^
thought "maybe Shane had a concussion" then why the f*** didn't he call a timeout or something and find out? It's not like we were coming back.
This whole thing is ridiculous. Hoke is in so far over his head it's a joke. He has ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE WHAT IS GOING ON.
September 28th, 2014 at 1:55 AM ^
Willingly senile. I don't need to look out for player safety. I don't need to communicate with the press box.
