Video released of York Assault

Submitted by michchi85 on

Found here.  It's not pretty to watch, and York blindsides the guy.  After seeing this, I have a hard time seeing him back on this team.  Very cowardly.

The guy could have been talking smack or whatever.. but his hands were jammed in his pocket and was as non-threatening as you could be.

He could have killed him.

He Jeremy Hill-ed him. Gotta go. I said it was pathetic when LSU team was allowed to vote Hill back onto the squad, as if they should be the authority over their frend and teammate. Hoke can't pull a Les Miles. The team has had more than its share of incidents under him.

This is not one of those times where I wish someone best of luck in the future. That is how people get killed. So long C'Sonte. Good riddance. Don't let the cell door hit your ass on the way in.

I failed to see this elbow bump that initiated this.  And Csonte sure didn't come off as scared until he took off after he laid out the other kid. With the video I hope it is a quick decision to dismiss him permantely from both the team and University.

You know what's tough Csonte? Being the bigger man and walking away.

So, most of you think that one punch, a serious mistake of one, but one punch is enough to make the kid miss out on a chance to play for Michigan?  I disagree.  Suspend him for a while, make him work to get back on the team, but teach the kid, don't send him packing for one mistake.  That's not like Hoke...he wants to teach these kids how to be men...consquences and second chances is how you do that.

Are you kidding me?  You would let a murderer get a 2nd chance.  Holy $hit this is horrible and i wish someone would hold him down and let Vladimir Klitchko take a shot at him.  This was a cowardly, horrible thing.  A fist is a weopon and that could have been death.

Matter of fact, Jones was right there - he didnt throw a punch but he was the one arguing, and seemed to walk to the side and get his attention away from York so York could hit him.  Id argue that this could have absolutely been an accomplice in 'lining' the guy up for a free pot shot.

This makes me soooo angry.  Grrr!

It looks to me like Jones sees York and steps to the other side to distract the guy. Notice his reaction after the punch, too: instead of grabbing York and pulling him away, he backs up slowly and walks away like he knew it was coming. So I also think he should be charged as an accomplice and suspended from the team pending further investigation.

I seen this a couple of times in person, but its prevelant in your typical "Worldstar" video.  It looked to me like he was clearly baiting the guy and setting York up for the easy take down.  Its a big hoot to people like this, as if sucker punching a drunk guy face to face isn't easy enough as it is.

I think this is a good disscussion point. Where do you draw the line? It seems most think once the act becomes violent is when a second chance isnt warrented. Then why do DUIs result in a 1 game suspension and second chance? That can be just as dangerous if not more than violent acts. You bring up a good point and im not sure myself where that line should be drawn. However I am usually in favor of giving second chanes because thats when they  really need that structure and leadership

have to be here.  I'm sure he'll get a second chance somewhere.  I just don't want it to be at U of M.

As far as DUIs go, I think you really need to look at the BAC.  I know plenty of people who have no problem driving at a .08.  I also know some people who I wouldn't get into a car with if they were stone cold sober and still can't figure out how they got their license. To make things clear I don't know the circumstances of Glasgow's DUI so I'm not sticking up for him or saying the punishment is to light.

I agree about second chances but not about playing football for Michigan.  I have no issue if he never sees a snap going forward for what he did, but I don't think casting him out to fend for himself with a felony charge against him does anything to help society.  If he does stay on the team, it would have to be at least a 1 year suspension with a review afterwards to determine if the coaches believe he has earned the right to play.

I hope that he gets to the bottom of his problems and turns his life around. He made a horrible decision, and I hope he uses this as a turning point to make better ones.

I believe that saying it was a terrible act assumes that the victim is of concern. And I'm hoping that others are not hurt in the future by this out-of-control young man. I'm looking at the big picture. Nothing comes from nothing. There are lots of people in pain in this situation. Concern for potential future victims and, yes, even the perpetrator, is in no way antithetical to concern for the victim.

While he definitely needs to be punished, I hate the idea of just cutting a player loose after something like this and letting his life get ruined.  I don't know how you do it, but putting this kid in jail for a decade where he will come out with virtually no chance to be successful is sad.  There's a significantly greater chance he leads a productive life if he can remain on the team and not contribute but after seeing this video I doubt that happens.

I understand that it's unprovoked assault but it's also 10 seconds that could ruin the rest of his life.  It wasn't premeditated, it was a dumb decision in a confrontation infront of a bar.  If we want to punish the kid as well as help him not repeat, it's better to give him a huge community service sentence and keep him on the team but no playing for at least a year.

"Premeditated" is an interesting word because it doesn't really indicate how much time has to pass for something to be "premeditated". From the video it looks like he took a decent amount of time to line this kid up before sucker punching him. He had his eye on the kid the whole time while the kid was distracted by Jones, and when Jones took a step back and was out of the way, C'sonte unloads on him.

He had plenty of time to think through his actions....he has to go.

That's just how real life works. You bear the consequences of your actions once you're an adult, which he is. Unless you're filthy rich, then you can usually buy your way out of deep shit.

In the rarest of circumstances can you claim provocation as a defense, legally speaking.  Unless you think talking smack about sports is provocation enough to get your lights knocked out.

Umm.... Since when is your life ruined if you don't play football at the U of M?  Attending and playing at such a prestigious school is one of the most valuable priviledges one can receive.  You do something like this, you lose that priviledge.  Hopefully York will learn that actions have consequences and turn his life around.  But it's his call and his decision and his actions that will determine the path of his life.

Realistically, what potential do you think his life will hold after this?  He'll be a convicted felon (or at least convicted of a serious misdemeanor), possibly without a college degree, and future employers will have access to the video.  His life just took a very sharp and permanent turn torwards Shitsville.
