Edwards Appears to be Practicing Without a Cast
Angelique Chengelis posted on her twitter account some practice videos from Arizona and in one clip Donovan Edwards appears to take a handoff from JJ with no cast on his hand.

I’m on my phone but she tweeted later that he’s wearing a cast still. It’s a smaller, black one, but it’s still there.

"It’s a smaller, black one, but it's still there"

Looks like the cast is still there on the right hand, but much smaller. Notice, he takes the ball in his left hand.
December 27th, 2022 at 6:17 PM ^
Saw that. Makes me wonder if he can catch passes. That would be huge.
December 27th, 2022 at 7:06 PM ^
She says in that feed that he was catching passes.

Roman didn’t have a drop last year wearing a cast.

Seen him on live video catch a deep wheel route
December 27th, 2022 at 7:39 PM ^
Can he throw?
December 27th, 2022 at 5:45 PM ^
Also of note from that practice, Alan Bowman is still with the team.
December 27th, 2022 at 5:47 PM ^
Didn't we know that, that he was entering the portal but would remain with the team through the playoffs?
December 27th, 2022 at 5:49 PM ^
Makes sense to me. Why would you give up the opportunity to win a national championship to get a two week jump on the portal?
Maybe the guys that left will get a ring anyway? Although clearly not the same as being with the team and experience the run.

Should have been a captain.

Get with the times. It’s “Rooster is reengaging”.

If the hand doesn't bother him any more than it did during the OSU game that is good enough for me. The Donn!!!

During the press conference, Edwards had his injured hand hidden in his sweatshirt pocket. When a reported asked him about his injury, he did not answer and opted to only answer the 2nd part of the journalist’s question.
December 27th, 2022 at 7:51 PM ^
The refusal to say anything about injuries is just dumb. I wish the NCAA would enact rules like the NFL’s that require teams to be much more transparent about what’s happening.
December 27th, 2022 at 8:27 PM ^
Universities make their football millions because of fan interest. Players’ injury status is obviously of interest and if everyone is playing by the same rules, disclosure of the injury information doesn’t hurt or disadvantage anyone while allowing fans a to get a clearer picture of what’s going on. One of the reasons for the NFL’s procedure is to prevent gamblers from seeking and taking advantage of the type of inside information that would be available if teams were allowed to keep injuries hidden, and that would obviously benefit college football as well. A college coach’s desire to gain some kind of presumed but unlikely edge by vaguely talking about a player “working through something” shouldn’t be the most important consideration.
December 27th, 2022 at 8:34 PM ^
I see all the time in NFL where they say game time decision. We don't know anything until an hour before the game. Probable and questionable statuses don't mean anything. Read the messages. Fans want to know if he can catch the ball. You want a coach to give a full run down on all players. In this particular case, probable is not going to give us any additional info.
December 27th, 2022 at 8:44 PM ^
Rules for thee but not for me. You are a POS.
December 27th, 2022 at 9:25 PM ^
In college, that athlete hopes to go pro someday. Is it possible he too would like to keep it secret and not display the exact injury to the NFL? I would think so. In Edwards case, it may be too late but that is part of the issue for collegiate athletes.
December 27th, 2022 at 11:22 PM ^
You really think the NFL’s physical evaluation process isn’t going to uncover past significant injuries?
December 27th, 2022 at 11:28 PM ^
As a lifelong Detroit Lions fan... yes.

You don't seem to understand football or how the guys that football see the world. This isn't please Joe fan time buddy, relax.
December 27th, 2022 at 8:41 PM ^
You are a stupid fan that wants all the details, but doesn’t want the same rules to apply to yourself. Here are a few examples that prove you are dumb as a rock:
Example1: You have diabetes. You are now forced to disclose that info. There is another candidate that matches your qualifications EXACTLY. They turn you down because they don’t want the added expense.
Example 2: You’ve been working for an employer for 2 years! You broke your hand. Your job lets you go because they found a new employee for cheap that is healthy. Good bye!
Empathy is a good trait to have. You don’t have it (in this situation) and could use some. No one cares about your $5 fantasy league and college and NFL players don’t care about you. Wake up! Because you are not important at all.
December 27th, 2022 at 9:23 PM ^
Dude, chill out. You have anger issues. Very Texan of you.
December 27th, 2022 at 11:13 PM ^
Thanks for profiling an entire state. If my arguments with multiple examples hurts your feelings maybe try drinking some capri sun on a swing set. Unless of course that isn’t safe enough for you?
Or you could be an adult and refute with examples and I’d up vote you for furthering the conversation. Up to you.
December 27th, 2022 at 10:28 PM ^
You seem like a pretty insufferable human.
December 27th, 2022 at 11:32 PM ^
Your examples are irrelevant. Injured players aren’t going to be fired or lose their scholarship if a school discloses that they are out with an injury. The school, of course, already knows the details. I would’ve thought that a guy who begins with the brilliant argument, “you are a stupid fan…” would be able to come up with something better.

Only,"YOU!"
December 27th, 2022 at 11:00 PM ^
It will never happen...and it shouldn't.
Maybe if guys are getting paid and they have a union or players association. But until then, folks need to let this shit go.
Also, what exactly do you expect to learn that you can't see?
He's practicing, full speed, with a small cast on his right hand. Angelique says he was catching passes.
Clearly he is going to play and start. You really need someone to tell you that?
December 27th, 2022 at 6:05 PM ^
Looks like Kalel is practicing full time with Hart and the RB group. There’s a clip that includes Benjamin Hall having a hard time with some agility drills didn’t realize early enrollees came in for bowl practices.
December 27th, 2022 at 10:00 PM ^
I saw an article somewhere that said 7 early enrollee's were able to practice. That is all positive time for them. Good for next year.
December 27th, 2022 at 11:02 PM ^
I think Mullings goes full-time at RB and that eliminates the need for adding the power back via the transfer portal. Instead, they went and got Ernest Hausmann from Nebraska to fill Mullings spot at ILB (only he will push for a starting spot).
Makes sense for everyone.
December 27th, 2022 at 6:16 PM ^
he's still carrying the ball in his left hand. Until I see that ball in his right hand, I'm assuming he won't be able to catch the ball
December 27th, 2022 at 6:43 PM ^
Didn’t he catch one against Purdue?
December 27th, 2022 at 7:17 PM ^
Yes he did. He caught one pass for four yards.

December 27th, 2022 at 7:20 PM ^
Yeah, I think he was able to catch short check down type passes, though I wouldn't want him trying to haul in contested balls with only 1 good hand. I suspect that will be a little bit improved after 3-4 more weeks of healing up.
December 27th, 2022 at 11:03 PM ^
Angelique said he was catching passes today.
December 27th, 2022 at 6:50 PM ^
If you want to see a really good pic of the cast, check out Isaiah Hole's site.
He took a bunch of pics at the beginning of practice today.
December 27th, 2022 at 7:25 PM ^
Yes, he's wearing a small cast to support his thumb. Most importantly, his other fingers are now free to give him some greater ability to use two hands.
December 27th, 2022 at 6:25 PM ^
Fuck yea
December 27th, 2022 at 6:34 PM ^
Man I hope he performs as well as the last few times he played with a cast.
December 27th, 2022 at 6:38 PM ^
great!
