Nassar Banner: Not a Good Look

Submitted by GRBluefan on November 19th, 2019 at 4:00 PM

Just saw this on CNN, but apparently the Psi U fraternity thought it would be good idea to hang a banner making a joke about Larry Nassar from one of their windows on Saturday.  Simone Biles was not amused.  Nothing quite like pissing off an American legend.  Way to represent, boys...

What a bunch of over sensitive crybabies in the world today.  Maybe don't provide the fodder for a bad joke by institutionalizing molestation like that in the first place.  Every msu fan with clout should be focusing on forcing that board to step down instead of anything we do. Go do something productive for the victims Simone.

Edit: those students make the University look bad. They should be ashamed.

I mean, she has, obviously.  That joke can easily be interpreted as a joke at the victims' expense. (You can't touch us refers to who the asshole touched)

If the statement were "Hey MSU, you defend against the pass the same way you defend women on your campus" the joke is aimed at MSU's administration and it's aimed in the right place.

OT: In my day Psi U was known for the family wealth of its members (at least, relative to other frats). I wonder if that was still the case a few years ago.

She was at the game because her boyfriend is former Michigan Gymnastics national champion Stacey Ervin.

There's plenty of shit to make fun of MSU for. A despicable tragedy where lives (children's lives) were ruined is not one of them.

College kids do stupid things. Especially greek lifers. Still not a good look.

This is definitely a learning opportunity for the guys in the fraternity. Yes, they are young, and stupid, and juvenile. That's part of the nature of fraternity life. But for them to apologize and think about what's wrong? That's something that is helpful. It also is helpful to ponder about the wisdom of things you put up for public consumption. On a bigger level, sexual trafficking is a huge, huge problem worldwide. The stuff with Robert Kraft, owner of the Patriots, and Jeffrey Epstein, who either was murdered or took his own life, is just the tip of the iceberg. Here's a link, for anyone who actually is interested. The stats are not pretty, and they make very clear that prostitution is not at all a victimless crime. FTR, the Robert Kraft incident had nothing to do with sex trafficking.  Zero evidence of sex trafficking found.  Zero charges filed.  It was a total BS information campaign the police used to publicly justify the raids (and the filming of private patrons under warrants dubiously obtained through draconian surveillance laws enacted after 9/11 to fight terrorism).  They announced a theory as if it was fact and literally none of it was found to be remotely true after they raided the parlors and investigated the case.

Really fascinating story, actually.  Recommend you read this piece: https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2019/10/the-disturbing-saga-of-robert-kraft

President Schlissel has been slowly tightening his grip around the Greeks in recent years. And they keep doing stuff like this to prove he's got his priorities straight. Not good, not funny, and this house deserves every bit of the reckoning to come.

Nothing quite like pissing off an American legend.

Is that what makes this wrong to you?

It is a stupid joke. Not horrible, racist, or mean-spirited..... just myopic.  Agreed.  But, unless it is your joke, there is nothing to be "embarrassed" about.  A turd of a joke by someone else is not reason to feel shame by association because it was made on your campus.

So, I have to assume that it is the added fact that she is "not amused" as to why you are embarrassed by it.

If you saw it yourself walking by would care to say anything, or is it the social media attention that makes this "post worthy"?

I’m torn. On the one hand I get it, using a tragedy involving the abuse of kids to jab at a rival is shitty.

On the other hand, just like Sandusky, I want the name Nassar hung around MSU’s neck like a plow yoke for all time and eternity for the way their institutions handled that crime spree.

I laughed. Yes it's in poor taste, but much of comedy is. Do any of you watch comedy central roasts and laugh at those? Other then racist/bigoted hate speech, i'm tired of people dictating what can and can't be said.
