Does anyone else feel cautiously optimistic about ND after last night?
October 20th, 2019 at 1:47 PM ^
?♂️
Not even cautiously.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
The offense really pleasantly surprised me. In the second half, best they looked all year, I thought.
But ultimately I'm with tnixon. I dislike ND as much as the next rational person. But they have a good football team.
October 21st, 2019 at 3:29 PM ^
The problem in falling behind by 3 scores, early is you really have to stick with the game plan till the half I think before you throw it the initial plan. I would think the coaches would have scripted plays for all situations?
October 20th, 2019 at 1:47 PM ^
Pretty much everybody who saw the silver lining in the loss think we're going to win; those of us who want heads to roll think we're going to lose.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:59 PM ^
What if I saw the silver lining in the loss bit I think were going to lose? I am also still on the fence about wanting heads to roll.
The coaches have their faults, but they didn't drop those balls or throw a screen pass to the wrong team. It is their fault we don't have better players though, QB and DT continue to kill us. I don't care what people say, Patterson is still a problem. He did play slightly above average in the 2nd half, but he still makes bad decisions and is not a good runner at all.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:38 PM ^
The screen pass bothers me. Yeah, it was a bad decision from Patterson. But how does PSU read a screen pass that easily? How are they that prepared for a play that Michigan barely uses? Competent opposing DC's must have a grasp of Michigan's offensive philosophy beyond the simple empiricism of what's on tape. That's a bit scary.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:00 PM ^
'Wanting heads to roll.' Common fantasy of omnipotence for anonymous jammy-clad internet fans. You're going to have a long wait; enjoy your increasing sense of frustration and powerlessness. May they eat out your liver but may your loved ones and children be free of your rancor and hatred.
TOO MUCH STUPID.
In answer to the OP's question: yeah, should be a great game! Really looking forward to it.
October 20th, 2019 at 4:21 PM ^
I think you meant to post this in the virtue signaling thread.
October 20th, 2019 at 4:32 PM ^
Hey, you mouthed a cliche! Congratulations! Original apposite thought, less so. . .
October 21st, 2019 at 12:32 AM ^
I meant that literally. There was a thread on the board today calling for virtue signaling/insult other fan posts. Your comment would have fit in there quite nicely.
October 21st, 2019 at 6:23 PM ^
It's a cliche, a dumb one, and entirely inapropos where my own comment is concerned. Before you parrot parrot verbiage that other halfwits have already been throwing around for a half-decade, know whereof you speak. Simply repeating uninspired ideas gets you zero points.
October 22nd, 2019 at 10:56 AM ^
You must be a lonely fella in the real world. It's okay. Someday you'll find a real world friend who appreciates you for you and sees how smart you really are. Until then, I hope your Mgopersona sustains you.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^
Yes. I believe Harbaugh will have the team ready.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
Everyone needs to take a step back. The offense drove up and down the field despite numerous calls against them. They controlled the game. Shea played very well and would have completed 75% of his passes if freakin half the drops would have been caught. There were all kinds of drops from the WR's. In a game in which the offense can barely communicate they played well. It's growing pains. Shea is going through yet ANOTHER Offensive Cord and you can see the light is starting to go on for that unit. Yes Michigan shouldn't be rebuilding but they have no help on the D line and they're still playing well.
Wisconsin Illinois proved that football is weird and every week is a new week. Calm down the program is not a sinking ship this isn't brady hoke this isnt rich rod.
You wanna be Ohio State but not lower the standards and play dirty in the recruiting game like them. Its like you want your cake and you wanna eat it to. The team played well and they look much better than when the season started. That shows signs of good coaching. Forget the first play of the game its a first half T.O who cares.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:52 PM ^
Good points. The dropped passes, as much as anything, are what chafed me.
October 21st, 2019 at 2:35 PM ^
How are we recruiting dirty?? Do you have proof? The reason we are getting the players that we get go way back to when Urban Meyer came to us from florida. He had a national presence and track record at florida to go with it. The kids today see instant results and the success he had while at florida. They want to be a part of that. Even when Tressel was at OSU we had decent talent which was mostly from Ohio. Meyer took it to another level with a national scope and is bringing in guys from across the country. Day has continued this and continues to pull in national recruits. This will continue until you beat us. The gap will continue to widen. What has Michigan done lately??? Nothing special....... Kids want to play for winners, and you aint it.........
October 20th, 2019 at 1:50 PM ^
No.
Kelly and his coaching staff are going to run a bukake session on Harbaugh and his staff.
Kelly isn’t Franklin. He actually has a brain and can coach.
Harbaugh got embarrassed AGAIN by the guy people joke about here and call Frames Janklin.
Nothing about last night should give anyone optimism against the remaining schedule. Harbaugh is still an idiot and still a terrible motivator.
good coaches don’t need to call a timeout on the very first play of the game because the offense has no fucking clue what the hell is going on
October 20th, 2019 at 1:53 PM ^
What's up Maizen?
Have you hung out on any Cleveland Cavalier message boards to trash Beilein?
October 20th, 2019 at 2:30 PM ^
Don't ever mention bukake and Brian Kelly in the same sentence ever again. What's wrong with you?
October 20th, 2019 at 2:55 PM ^
+1 for using bukake in your statement.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:50 PM ^
Next week I will be at the game with the majority of the 13 guys I lived with my senior year (418 High st represent!)
I intend to watch us beat Notre Dame for two reasons:
1.) Fuck Notre Dame
2.) Harbaugh only loses to OSU and MSU at home.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:57 PM ^
Not going to beat Notre Dame but maybe the team will at least come out with some sort of heart and pride since the season is KO’d.
Harbaugh couldn’t beat ND without Ian Book starting. WHAT makes you think he will beat them now? Dude can’t even beat them with Wimbush who is JOK levels bad.
At least tickets will be cheap.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:09 PM ^
Nice dumbass response.
Notre dame struggled badly with usc and not a lot impresses me about them. On the road they will struggle. Kelly is winless in ann arbor
October 20th, 2019 at 1:52 PM ^
Yes. ND isn't unstoppable. They have one loss already and a .500 USC team gave them all they could handle. And this time we'll be the home team in a night game.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:54 PM ^
To the football gods: Please let this be a game where WE get to say the night game environment allowed the home team to win over a better opponent.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:37 PM ^
The drop last night wasn't helpful
October 20th, 2019 at 1:52 PM ^
Yes, I'm cautiously optimistic as well. Actually, I was even before the PSU game, and I am even more optimistic now.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:54 PM ^
Within the safe confines of the Big House, yes.
We outplayed Penn State in everything except score, of course which is ultimately what matters, but still I think the team took a very important step yesterday and I'm optimistic that they can enter The Game at 9-2.
We saw a poised and confident Shea, we used the passing game to open up the run, we got the ball to Black, DPJ, Collins, Bell, Eubanks, Ash, etc. much more than we had in the past. Shea wasn't sacked a single time. We put up 400+ yards on a top 10 defense. We didn't fold like a house of cards when we were down 0-21. We had very few negative yardage plays. We made good use of the screen game and actually saw some of the 'speed in space' concepts we were teased with in the offseason.
It's a tough loss, but I feel like it may be our last loss until we get to OSU and then we'll see. If you'll recall in 2017 with John O'Korn (!!) at the helm, we had a shot at a game-winning drive against an OSU team favored to win by 12 in Ann Arbor.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:05 PM ^
I’m with you. The offense seemed to find itself in the second half. Wide receiver screens that actually worked. Play calling that seemed cohesive. Some good gains on the ground. Shea looked much more confident and was throwing the ball pretty well. That’s something they can build on for ND. There’s a reason they play the games and I can’t see how the team won’t be fired up on Sat. night under the lights. I’ll be there to support them.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:19 PM ^
I will be there as well, screaming my ass off and hoping we win over Notre Dame. Barring a miracle, we won't be playing for the Big Ten title this year, which is disappointing, but we can still beat ND and MSU and hell, maybe even OSU too.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:25 PM ^
I thought the offense looked promising the whole game, really. We were moving the ball early on, too, but punted on 4th and 1, and then the seeming double-standard on PI cost us heavily on two subsequent drives.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
I agree, we were moving the ball well in the 1st half, but it was even better in the 2nd.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:55 PM ^
Notre Dame wins by at least 10 if not more
October 20th, 2019 at 1:55 PM ^
Yes.
Beating Notre Dame can make this season respectable.
Beating Ohio State can make this season a true success.
Losing to MSU can make this season a disaster.
Still way too early to judge the full body of work for this season. Three rivals to go, LET'S GO BLUE!
October 20th, 2019 at 1:55 PM ^
Not really. I think Book will kill us with scrambles while Brown tries to single cover Claypool with Brad Hawkins.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:12 PM ^
They just shut down a better scrambler u dumbass
October 20th, 2019 at 1:57 PM ^
Yes. The refs swung that game last night by 14 points. Offense has looked good six out of the last eight quarters. I think we finally break through with a comfortable win on Saturday.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:58 PM ^
Optimistic about the team, pessimistic about the trash fans on message boards
October 20th, 2019 at 2:01 PM ^
Games like last night are seldom good for either team the following week. PSU has a noon kick with MSU in East Lansing. Very good chance they come out flat and get rolled.
Recovering from the physical and emotional toll of a game with such radical swings is not easy. Your next opponent coming off a bye is even worse. Both MSU and ND were off this week.
Our guys likely pulled into Ann Arbor around 5 AM and that makes for a tough Sunday. It’s not a matter of silver linings or half empty glasses, Notre Dame would be a challenge for us in a perfect scenario, what we have now is a very tough situation to overcome and coming up short on a play to tie a game isn’t going to be helpful.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:10 PM ^
It's a lot easier when your next game is at home. If we were going on the road I'd agree (and I could see PSU having a letdown at MSU).
October 20th, 2019 at 2:11 PM ^
The team flies on an airplane nowadays, it's not the 1960s. State College to Willow Run is like a 30 min flight. I bet they were back in Ann Arbor by 1AM, which is earlier than I went to bed last night.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:01 PM ^
Michigan opened -6.5 so Vegas is optimistic. I am too, to be honest. I think they'll win the game.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:29 PM ^
I'm optimistic too, but I could more easily see the line flipped, Michigan + 6.5. I actually thought it would be us + 4 or 5.
interesting. Apparently we aren't the only optimists.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:02 PM ^
Not optimistic at all. Michigan is going to win
October 20th, 2019 at 2:33 PM ^
Cautiously optimistic is an oxymoron.
Either you expect the team to win or you don't.
MGoBloggers, don't let the negative nancies here get you down.
