You're right about the D.

You're right about the D.

I cannot stomach Gus anymore.  He's awful.

They won.

But yuck.  Buy…

They won.

But yuck.  Buy the defense (and S. Morgan) dinner.

Yes 1000x.

Yes 1000x.

This passing game is…

This passing game is laughable.

JJ will not throw the ball…

JJ will not throw the ball away.  Of course, the OL seems unable to protect him.  Of course, if they varied the pass game a bit...

Yes, yes, yes.

Yes, yes, yes.

Jansen and Avant both have…

Jansen and Avant both have been saying that since the 2nd quarter!

The radio announcers: "Would…

The radio announcers: "Would have been a big gainer if..."  They have said that at least three times today.

And Jansen and Avant both have said: "Go deep!  It's there!  Make a double move, you can burn the Iowa CBs..."

Neither is especially impressed by the play-calling.

I just watched highlights of…

I just watched highlights of the Georgia-Alabama game.  Both teams could pass the ball downfield.  I feel that tired old envy...

Jason Avant and Jon Jansen (radio) just commented that Michigan is not as balanced (run-pass) as they were in the first half of the season.

This offense reeks today.

This offense reeks today.

Could be.  I am listening to…

Could be.  I am listening to the radio.  Jansen said Johnson didn't look for the ball early enough.  In any case, missed opportunity.

That was your chance, #6. …

That was your chance, #6.  Gotta help your QB.

Crap.

Crap.

Total crap.

Total crap.

This is crap.

This is crap.

On the radio broadcast, they…

On the radio broadcast, they mentioned that Michigan has been using a "jumbo" formation, with Trente Jones, but that they had implemented a "mammoth" formation, with Jones and Hinton as extra blockers, in effect giving them seven OL for some run plays.

All that running?  I think (a guess) it was the game plan.

Another thing that puzzles me: against Purdue, I was very surprised by how much Michigan passed.  Without checking, it seems to me the most pass attempts JJ has had all year.  This week?  The same thing, except the opposite, probably the most rush attempts all year.

I dunno.  But I loved the physicality of that run game today.

I did not see the game and…

I did not see the game and have not seen it mentioned.  Did Stokes play at all?  (Injured?  Held out for some reason?)

Your last two sentences…

Your last two sentences express my concern too.  I have been looking forward to Crippen taking over at C.  I understand why he had to wait this year (obviously).  But potentially to lose your starting position to consecutive transfers?...

I keep reminding myself that…

I keep reminding myself that he is a true sophomore.  I think those sorts of errors will be worked out with experience and more game reps.  When the game "slows down for him," I guess the saying goes.

Love that O-line.  They are…

Love that O-line.  They are monsters.  Maulers.

A beautiful thing to see.

C'mon, fatpete.  Be fair.

C'mon, fatpete.  Be fair.

It is quite possible to win a football game by kicking seven or eight FGs.  All you have to do is continually run the ball into 8 man fronts...

EDIT: I'll leave the original post.  But you're right, Timaaay.  I posted in frustration.

My sense, again, is that the…

My sense, again, is that the offensive game plan was semi-incoherent.  No rhythm, no flow; nothing building off earlier plays.  Of course, it is hard to have rhythm when the passing game is so erratic.  Michigan can run.  It is gratifying to watch.  But the passing is a mess, and at this level it should not be.

I think this nails it: "…

I think this nails it: "...offensive coaches that simply have not invested the time into developing the pass play book and repping the pass plays."

I could comment on the WRs, or JJ's inconsistency, or other things.  But the pass offense just looks disjointed and...unpracticed.  It is sloppy.  Dropped passes -- sometimes when the WR looks surprised the ball hit them in the hands.  The inability to have a 5-10 yard route, any route, that is 'automatic,' a well-practiced play that will pick up a 3rd and 5, for example.  The pass offense looks like a shambles.

And, of course, I want to mention that water is wet.  Oops, what I mean is: I lost count of the number of times Michigan ran into an 8 or 9 man front.  Even with the third or fourth string RB.

But at least they kicked four FGs!  Lemonade out of a lemon!

Great reply.  It was…

Great reply.  It is informative to people like me (i.e., people who see a lot during games, but often do not recognize what they see).

There is no room for debate…

There is no room for debate or doubt.  Michigan does not pass more because they cannot pass more.  The WRs are all mediocre.  JJ has no touch on the deep ball.  And he does not have the presence of mind to throw the ball away.

But the RBs, all of them, are studs.  The OL is a run-blocking machine.  The run game is something beautiful to see.  (I wonder what the deal with Dunlap is.  Just never panned out?)

Word.  (To both of the above…

Word.  (To both of the above comments.)

Cornelius Johnson is a…

Cornelius Johnson is a liability.

I have never understood the…

I have never understood the speculation about Gattis as a head coach.  (I am agreeing with you, to be clear.)  The guy is still young, and he has had one (very) successful year as an OC.  I just don't see what sort of proven experience he has that would make people think he is ready for the responsibility of a head coach.  Maybe he is.  But it puzzles me how, after a year of success, in a year that in some ways seems golden (D much better than expected, Haskins becoming a beast, DEs who played out of their minds, young players stepping up), he is suddenly qualified to take the reins of a major program (even programs like Virginia or VT, much less a program like Michigan).

Over 300 yards receiving.

Over 300 yards receiving.

According to Yahoo, he has…

According to Yahoo, he has 327 yards receiving.

Sadly, today is Brandstatter…

Sadly, today is Brandstatter's last game.  Dierdorf couldn't call the game.  Jon Jansen is pretty good.  Sober, frank, not an obvious homer.

Wish the game could've been more competitive.  But as folks have said and as is obvious, UGA is a really good team.

Might could be.  UGA is…

Might could be.  UGA is legit.

I'll read about it on the 11th.

Outclassed top to bottom.

Outclassed top to bottom.

The championship game is going to be boring.  I think I'll watch reruns of Maud.

Know what Dierdorf said at…

Know what Dierdorf said at halftime?  "Georgia is out-efforting Michigan."

I can't disagree.

This is metaphysically bad. …

This is metaphysically bad.  A fumble.  WRs giving up on routes.  The secondary getting absolutely torched.

Oy.

Good for Dunlap!

Does…

Good for Dunlap!

Does anyone know his size, currently?  A lot of folks have suggested he can be the next Haskins-ish power back.  Is he 220ish?

Word.

Word.

Wild guess: This shows how…

Wild guess: This shows how enchanted Harbaugh is with Haskins.  Hence their pursuit of the ASU guy, and this pick-up.

I wonder if they have in mind some packages for Orji.  (No pun intended -- though I can't stop others from indulging.)  Wildcat and/or read-option type things, perhaps.

He's a Major Dude.

He's a Major Dude.

I thought his destination…

I thought his destination was being announced today?  Did I read that wrongly?

Anyone know when the decision is being made?

A 6'8" guard?  I don't think…

A 6'8" guard?  I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Point taken.  I think I was…

Point taken.  I think I was frustrated when I posted that.

Surveying this signing day…

Surveying this signing day from a high altitude, i.e., from what I see here and some of the Twitter links, I'll say this:  It seemed like conventional wisdom for a long time that "coaching instability" was a liability, a source of negative recruiting, a red flag for recruits.

This year, it seems like coaching insecurity is an asset.

I think a really important…

I think a really important part of that culture, the culture that contributed to an entirely unexpectedly awesome season, is player leadership: Hutchinson, Ross, Hawkins, Haskins, Vastartis -- etc.

If guys step up, not only with talent and effort, but with leadership, then the future could be exciting.

I wonder how much Nua was…

I wonder how much Nua was hamstrung by the type of defense Brown ran.  I wonder if Brown's defensive design tied Nua's hands, in other words.

A more conventional defensive philosophy...and we see better results on the field.

That's awesome.

Five…

That's awesome.

Five minutes ago, I really didn't have an opinion about this.  Now that it happened, I'm delighted for him.  From what I've read, he is not only a gifted athlete but also a ferocious hard worker.

I understand some people are…

I understand some people are hopeful Sabb might flip.

Different question: If Michigan loses out on the 5* OT from Washington, are they (UM) committed to getting another OL in this class?  If so, who are the plan-B guys?

That's emotionally charged…

That's emotionally charged language, Epictetus.  I'm a little surprised.

Go Blue!

Iowas saying exactly this to…

Iowas saying exactly this to a buddy last night.

"Forget it, Jake.  It's Iowa, man..."

I just heard a post-game…

I just heard a post-game interview with Josh Ross.

What a great guy.  His whole family are Michigan fans, and have been forever.  He gave a shout-out to Wojo.  Great interview.  Listen if you're able to find it online somewhere.
