Yeah, might as well put a Manchester United hat out there.

Isn't Mazi Smith in one of these games?

Lol "for the next 3 or 4 years" I'll be a Georgia Bulldog.
AKA: I came to play football, not school.
January 5th, 2019 at 3:10 PM ^
What is so bad about having a goal to make it to the NFL in 3 years? Obviously he`s going to Georgia to play football. That's why the school is willing to give him a free education for the next three to four years. I guarantee if he quits playing football, that scholarship will go away.
January 5th, 2019 at 4:29 PM ^
January 5th, 2019 at 3:14 PM ^
So he shouldn't dream of going to the NFL and take that opportunity after 3 years if possible? Get off your high horse.
January 5th, 2019 at 3:15 PM ^
Yep, like just like 80-90% of his peers. Let's drop the charade that high level H.S. football recruits should be as interested in a high level education as they are in preparing for the NFL.
January 5th, 2019 at 3:50 PM ^
That is not the issue - the issue is that premier educational institutions (with rigorous academic standards) should not be interested in accepting applicants that have no intention of graduating.
Also, this is NOT a situation similar to when some student hits on a big idea and leaves school to found a start-up; they would have come with the intent of finishing and just worked hard/got lucky along the way.
January 5th, 2019 at 4:39 PM ^
You serious with this bullshit?
January 5th, 2019 at 4:48 PM ^
You're really off base.
Players do graduate in 3 years. It's not that unusual with early entries and summer classes. Further, many players that leave early do finish their degrees. It's much easier now that it can be done online.
What do you want these kids to say?
January 5th, 2019 at 3:52 PM ^
It's not a charade. It's covering your bases. Most of them won't make it because of a lack of talent others will be injured. If the NFL doesn't work out it's valuable to have a good education and a diploma from a respected school.
January 6th, 2019 at 2:18 PM ^
I agree with you that most won't make it to the NFL and they should take advantage of their educational opportunities. That's pretty obvious. I'm simply pointing out the reality that a large majority of H.S. seniors that are elite football players are primarily motivated to play football and try to get to the NFL; their primary motivation is not the education. Going to class is largely a hassle for many elite athletes in the revenue sports and many need significant academic support to graduate. Employers (other than the NFL) recognize this reality as well and that's why, by and large, their degrees are not worth as much as a "regular" student once they do graduate. This is the same point JH made years ago when he got on Lloyd's shit list. The charade is when we all pretend that these athletes should care as much about school as a regular student does, especially when we use that view to rationalize why we are not as competitive as other schools in the sports we care about.
January 5th, 2019 at 3:37 PM ^
I think DPJ said the same thing
January 5th, 2019 at 8:39 PM ^
And if they'd said "You have to enroll in college for at least 3 years, and then you'll have a seven figure job waiting for you" I'd 100% enroll without necessarily planning on finishing. Good plan to go somewhere with great academics as insurance, but that would not be my priority at that point.

No Targeting in high school, where it's needed most?
January 5th, 2019 at 3:30 PM ^
There is targeting in high school, but luckily, it doesn't result in ejections. With no instant replay to review those calls, it would be a HUGE issue to deal with high school refs kicking dudes out of games.
January 5th, 2019 at 3:19 PM ^
Wow Dax Hill with the huge whiff on the QB run for a TD... ?
January 5th, 2019 at 3:25 PM ^
don’t worry. He is like others are going through the motions. The practices have more merit than the game
January 5th, 2019 at 3:29 PM ^
That is what it looked like. Not gonna lie, I'd love to see him make a big play though. Pick 6 preferably lol
January 5th, 2019 at 3:33 PM ^
Nationally televised games are pretty rare for high school football players. I doubt anyone is going though the motions
January 5th, 2019 at 4:04 PM ^
Yeah, if nothing just to show off for the chicks.
January 5th, 2019 at 3:32 PM ^
He'll fit right in then
January 5th, 2019 at 3:33 PM ^
??? ouch
January 5th, 2019 at 3:33 PM ^
Had to laugh. Plus 1
January 5th, 2019 at 3:43 PM ^
Nah I think it'd be better to just use him as a wildcat QB
January 5th, 2019 at 3:32 PM ^
Touchdown Cornelius Johnson
January 5th, 2019 at 4:00 PM ^
CJ is such a great pick up. You need to have that big framed WR who is a match up problem for the DBs. He’s gonna be big for us.
January 5th, 2019 at 5:03 PM ^
He will get 1-2 targets a game.
January 5th, 2019 at 6:02 PM ^
It's sad that this kind of self depricating "we suck" wuss-ass bullshit gets upvoted. Misery loves company, I guess.
January 5th, 2019 at 6:40 PM ^
"Wuss-ass bullshit" for the win lol
January 5th, 2019 at 6:45 PM ^
Lol, sounds like you don't get it. It's not "we suck", it's "pep sucks".
January 5th, 2019 at 6:49 PM ^
I apologize to seafood... the constant negativity makes me snap when I've had a couple drinks. I just need to stay away from threads since it's probably going to be pervasive until the irrational exuberance of fall camp takes over.
January 5th, 2019 at 7:53 PM ^
You think this kid will have more than 20 receptions this coming year. Its terrible that its true but IT IS TRUE. Perry just left as a seasoned senior and didnt nothing this year. These players deserve to be showcased, it leads to more talent coming. Us settling for crap results doesnt help.
January 5th, 2019 at 6:26 PM ^
0-1 targets
C'mon, let's not get too crazy offensively now
January 5th, 2019 at 6:31 PM ^
Hard to get targets when you already have a couple target hogging pass catchers on your team -- you know, McKeon and McCurry, our offensive weapons.
January 5th, 2019 at 3:35 PM ^
Excellent form on the ball spin but I hope we never see it again. Safety looked like he just zoned out or something on that TD. Announcer talking about Michigan needing explosiveness was right up until he suggested better players would change that... I don't see any offensive coordinators playing in this game.
January 5th, 2019 at 5:30 PM ^
Rb, hopefully charbonnet
January 5th, 2019 at 3:38 PM ^
Chris Hinton with the fumble recovery. Followed the Johnson TD. Dax's turn to make a big play?...
January 5th, 2019 at 3:43 PM ^
Let’s stay with Johnson. Nice route and soft hands. Dude is fast.
QB has a fast release with a very accurate arm. Wow
January 5th, 2019 at 3:45 PM ^
Damn Mertz looks like a 5 star to me.
January 5th, 2019 at 6:41 PM ^
With a name like Damn Mertz, you'd better be good...
January 5th, 2019 at 4:08 PM ^
Was Pep there recruiting ? I heard we are trying to flip a Bama kid ?
January 5th, 2019 at 4:51 PM ^
This is a dead period for recruiting.
January 5th, 2019 at 4:10 PM ^
Saw Corn Johnson with 2 TDs. Chris Hinton flashed as well. Believe he had a fumble and recovery and just overall, the East line (even with a rule stating you can only rush 4) was dominant. That usually is the case in these events but they were really dominant and powered this win along with the stud QB who is going to Wisconsin.
January 5th, 2019 at 4:13 PM ^
Just see. Sam Webb’s interview with Dax after game . Free safety and Viper he said
January 5th, 2019 at 4:52 PM ^
I would be hard pressed to believe that Dax will ever play viper - he's not a Peppers type and quite frankly, I feel like we should move towards playing more sets with three traditional linebackers - good squads take advantage of our lack of size in the second level - this would require us to play more zone though - just a thought.
January 5th, 2019 at 6:56 PM ^
I would actually say the opposite. Rather have 3 vipers instead of three traditional linebackers. Teams are beating us with speed not with size.
