DrunkOnHiggins

DrunkOnHiggins...pretty self explanatory. You can find me Drunk on Higgins Lake most summer weekends.

My friends and I were 7 years old when Blood Sugar Sex Magik was released. It was the coolest/funkiest album we had ever heard. Countless hours on the bus to and from school listening to that cassette. I always liked this picture of Frusciante playing his acoustic.

St Joe Blues

December 26th, 2018 at 11:18 AM ^

My name is a troll setup. I live in St Joseph, MI. That's the normal part. The Blues has double meaning. If I'm trolling a Buckeye or Sparty online, I tell them I'm a blues harmonica player, stop being so sensitive about your sucky team. On some other sites I also have the tagline "Pure Michigan."

I had a different account on here years ago, but I don't remember the name I used then, maybe Mrocks. I abandoned the account when I was surfing from my work computer and picked up a virus that IT says came from this web site.

Honker Burger

December 26th, 2018 at 11:19 AM ^

1. Name: The Honker Burger is the name of the local hangout joint on Nickelodeon's Doug. For non-90s kids, look up songs by 'The Beets' on YouTube.

2. Avatar: Honker Burger mascot

1.) So, I was much much younger when I joined this site about 10+ years ago. I used to love the And1 Mixtape Tours. They were always on right when I'd get home from school and I'd sit there for hours watching them double dribble, travel, and promote Mountain Dew Code Red. There were a lot of great nicknames to choose from between Hot Sauce, Half Man Half Amazing, Spyder, Escalade, Bone Collector and The Professor to name a few but Rafer Alston's Skip 2 My Lou was my favorite, and I liked how he was the only one who was a legitimate NBA player.

AOL said the name was taken so I turned 2 to Too and used it for everything. Here we are.

2.) My avatar is from the 2004 Michigan-Purdue game. This was right around the beginning of what I call my conscious fandom where I could remember games and players and have an understanding of what's going on. My favorite players from my earliest memories were Marquise Walker and Ernest Shazor. ANYWAY, Purdue was driving, they needed a field goal to win I think, Dorien Bryant caught a slant and took it to the sideline, Markus Curry hit him low, Shazor hit him high, the ball popped out, Michigan recovered. Comeback denied. Just one of my first great memories and an awesome chain of events to watch.

unWavering

December 26th, 2018 at 11:19 AM ^

My MgoName/avatar refers to the album Wavering Radiant by the band ISIS (they were named this before the terrorist assholes became prevalent, and have since disbanded).  I was really digging that album around the time I made my account here.

KO Stradivarius

December 26th, 2018 at 11:19 AM ^

Name is heavyweight boxing champ from Three Stooges, when Larry plays "Pop Goes the Weasel" on the violin, Curly goes nuts.  It was their 2nd episode made as Larry/Moe/Curly from 1934..

Pic is of "General Specific", from a cartoon "Sheep in the Big City".

chatster

December 26th, 2018 at 11:38 AM ^

1.  Chatster seemed like a perfectly anonymous name to use as an homage to what long ago was the go-to site for chats about one of my other interests -- rock 'n' roll music.

2.  The avatar describes my feelings about joining organizations.groucho-marx-quotes-21.jpg

outsidethebox

December 26th, 2018 at 11:44 AM ^

Each of us are informed by our unique life experiences.

I like to and believe it is good to flip things over and turn them around and try to assess matters from a variety of perspectives. I have never been on a team where I was not the smallest body...but I had other things going for me...I was always the quickest and I knew how to compete. I had high school baseball and basketball coaches who were phenomenal at putting their players in the best position possible to succeed...and by all counts, here, I was a success. But my view of the athletic endeavor makes me "outsidethebox"...hence...this is me. I would say "sorry"...except I'm not...I am who I am-just like everyone else.

I do my best to respect the perspective of others. Here, as I frequently get reminded, I don't always do so well. What sometime comes out of my mouth or appears in print is often taken with offense-not as I intended-nevertheless, I accept and apologize for my culpability here.

The good news is that I have a wonderfully intelligent wife who is the consummate professional-to help keep my within functional boundaries...to the best of her abilities...bless her heart!

UofMfromCMU

December 26th, 2018 at 11:58 AM ^

1. Couldn’t quite get into Michigan out of highschool, but got into every other school including state. Loved UofM so much I decided to go anywhere but there and ended up taking a scholarship to central.

2. My avatar used to be John Beilein my lord and savor but it was lost in the transition to mgoblog 3.0

bluenoteSA80

December 26th, 2018 at 12:05 PM ^

I play the saxophone and have always loved jazz and blues music. In those genres, a bluenote is one which is played a half step flat from the normal scale. It just happens to also fit into a Michigan theme as well.

I was inspired to change my avatar just for this post.

The Man Down T…

December 26th, 2018 at 12:07 PM ^

Name was just something I stole from someone in an assassins game.  Avatar is Spongebob bending a teacher or other adult over in front of her elementary class, which, I'm sorry, is fucking hysterical...

Wolverdirt

December 26th, 2018 at 12:11 PM ^

Name is an homage to my costly hobby of mountain biking. Went through various stages of should I or shouldn't I use this name given its potential negative connotations. Came to the usual conclusion of fuck it.  It simply reflects my love of playing (riding / crashing) in good dirt.

Pic is a mountain bike tire named Wolverine by WTB.  I've found this tire to be sturdy and reliable, but ultimately not the fastest roller - kind of like the teams of my youth in the late 70s and 80s.

Jason80

December 26th, 2018 at 12:11 PM ^

My name is Jason and obviously 79 people used it before me. Actually the number is a hat tip to the great Jerry Rice. For the pic it was the image i liked most when I image searched "block M"

Blue Knight

December 26th, 2018 at 12:24 PM ^

I'm a Michigan fan (obvi), and a graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, thus Knight.  Plus Calvin doesn't have football, so the joke goes that we're undefeated since 1876!

MMB 82

December 26th, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^

I was in the Marching Band for 4 years, and graduated in ‘82 (LSA).

My avatar is a pic of a license plate made as a composite of several strips of random old plates, mounted on a wooden frame. Bought it at an Art Fair in Flagstaff, AZ awhile back.

JWG Wolverine

December 26th, 2018 at 12:45 PM ^

My initials followed by Wolverine.

Couldn’t think of a cool avatar so I just made one. As you can see in the avatar though, it displays that my username was a mistake. It rolls off the tongue better though so I guess I got lucky!

greatlakestate

December 26th, 2018 at 12:46 PM ^

My name is because it is another name for Michigan.  I also chose it as a gender neutral name because when I first joined I didn't want it known that I was a woman.  (Men often don't believe that women know anything about sports... Since then I've come to realize that on this blog people are respectful...or not...regardless of gender.)

My avatar is my Michigan flag flying over our family's lake house Up North.

Brewers Yost

December 26th, 2018 at 12:49 PM ^

1. I was doing a lot of brewing back when I made the account. I still make beer and cider but have expanded into other areas of food science such as cheese making, pickling, and whatnot. Regardless, I wanted to hammer together some words that reflected my interest in brewing and Michigan athletics. So I took a common name for S. cerevisiae, brewer's yeast, and changed yeast to Yost.

MikeB1GMike

December 26th, 2018 at 12:50 PM ^

1) MikeBigMike was my nickname in high school given to me by my father-in-law who was PA announcer at football games and did a local football radio show. Shortly after I started dating his daughter my sophomore year, I worked my way into a starting position at WR and Corner and the name was born and stuck with people through out my small town,(not sure why it stuck I was 5'10" and 160lbs my sophomore year) I think he stole it from the movie Blindside though. Note: the nickname really worked when I hit the weight room hard and was moved to TE and Nose guard.

2) Avatar is Jim yelling at an official because I found and joined this site shortly after he was hired and I wanted to be hip and cool.

k.o.k.Law

December 26th, 2018 at 12:56 PM ^

Am looking for Prozac to fight the depression brought on by finding out MGrowOd is 6 years younger than I am.

):

Freshman year at Wenley House, many of us got stuck with initials as nicknames, R squared, T squared, SDR, I was dubbed K.O.K for first initial of first name and beginning of last name.

Am a lawyer.

Pic is my favorite of me in 1975 Mud Bowl, a blocking back keeping Lary Sorensen mud free.

schizontastic

December 26th, 2018 at 7:31 PM ^

I didn’t realize until this post that I’d been subconsciously conflating your and s———kass(?) for months/years. Vaguely wondering why “you” seemed flip your avatar back and forth between this and a black and white photo. In my (inadequate) defense, until recently I only read the board on my small phone while walking down the hall etc.

ChasingRabbits

December 26th, 2018 at 1:08 PM ^

1. its what I do to pass the time, make a little money, and keep my speed and agility up.

2. my avatar is me after a little after school fun in the sugar cane fields.

Actually  none of that is true.  I was just fascinated by the story of the kids from "The Muck" (towns  and surrounding area near Lake Okeechobee FL) that did do all that.  When RR came in and started recruiting the area, I thought it was the future of the program. The dream died, but the story is still cool.  And all the kids that came to UM from there will have a special place in my heart.   Avatar is of one such kid after a very successful outing.

Boner Stabone

December 26th, 2018 at 1:22 PM ^

1. I am a child of the 80's and Growing Pains was my favorite show.

2.  It is a picture of Boner Stabone a character from the show.  He was Mike Seaver's best friend and this picture is from the episode where Mike and Boner sign up for a photography class at Alf Landon Jr. College and the final project in the class is for them to do a nude photo shoot.
