I'm not sure we can be quite that confident in McCaffrey just yet. I agree that he showed poise in the limited time he came in, but conservative play calling definitely helped there. The coaching staff did not ask him to do too much in those moments.
That being said, I do think he has the potential to be a great two-year starter and will be more than capable as a back up this year. I really hope we don't see him in any extended capacity this year (meaning Shea is seriously injured), but I am excited to see him with an open playbook in the coming years.
|01/14/2019 - 12:13pm||I don't see how you can…||
I don't see how you can compare Snoop and Mickey. Mickey Redmond played in the NHL for 9 years and is obviously very knowledgeable about the game. He may not be the best at articulating it due to age, potential CTE, whatever, but he's a far cry from a random celebrity calling a game. I understand that he has his quirks and sayings ("Oh look out!" & "Holy Mackerel!"), but I think its a nice contrast from all business Ken Daniels.
|01/14/2019 - 10:18am||It is really the only DCFC…||
It is really the only DCFC coverage out there, though, which is surprising considering the popularity of the team. I know the fanbase is still extremely small compared to any other pro or college team in the area but it seems to me there is a general interest from people in metro Detroit that do appreciate some coverage of the team.
|01/14/2019 - 8:58am||Teske is as good as anyone…||
Teske is as good as anyone at keeping his hands straight up when contesting shots. That coupled with a very good instinct as to when to go for a block makes it very hard on anyone attacking him. Keeps him out of foul trouble too which is going to be big for this team down the stretch.
|01/08/2019 - 1:10pm||This is a phenomenal comment…||
This is a phenomenal comment. If and until the Selection Committee truly rewards scheduling strong OOC games and punishes scheduling FCS (which I cannot see happening), Michigan should be actively trying to schedule the worst teams possible for its OOC games.
I am sentimental and love rivalries, so I hope Michigan does NOT do this, but that is the way to put the team in the best position to compete for championships every year. There is something to be said for facing adversity and playing quality opponents to gain experience, but the bottom line is that if a P5 team is undefeated, they will be in the playoff.

Who would be a home run hire?
Washington and Mattison were both phenomenal recruiters. One, an established great defensive coach and the other a rising star. This hurts big time.
|01/07/2019 - 1:51pm||If this team improves in…||
If this team improves in February as Beilein teams tend to do, the sky is the limit and you almost have to expect Final Four. I am excited to see some real tests with Wisconsin and MSU in the not so distant future.
|01/07/2019 - 1:36pm||I absolutely love that the…||
I absolutely love that the point in the game where Michigan's win probability was lowest was at 20:00 minutes left in the first half a.k.a. the tip off.
|01/04/2019 - 1:08pm||I generally agree with you…||
I generally agree with you but I think he can put in a few short minutes without too much downside. He is solid defensively but the offense seems to almost come to a complete halt whenever he is in. Hopefully increased with increased minutes this season the offensive issues will get ironed out and he will be serviceable enough if Teske and/or Livers get into foul trouble/injured.
|01/03/2019 - 2:24pm||They redesigned the logo to…||
They redesigned the logo to give it a more "classic" look instead of the somewhat cartoon-y look of yesteryear. It doesn't look a lot different but a definite improvement in my opinion.
The whole pregame ceremony is based on the history and tradition of Hockeytown (even though it is a recent development when considering the history of the Wings) so I wouldn't expect them to change anytime soon.

When done correctly, white gloves are absolutely fire.
|12/28/2018 - 1:53pm||You really think Don Brown…||
You really think Don Brown doesn't try to be multiple? That's all he ever preaches and why he's so good. Don Brown's defense isn't set up to run zone schemes all the time. I agree you need to mix them in (that's what causes a lot of sacks and picks), but to say DB's defense isn't multiple is just ignorant.
As for the offense, it definitely needs more variety when the opponent is better. I can't remember where I saw it but someone said that Michigan play-called like they were the favorite against OSU (when, you know, OSU was actually the better/more talented team), and they got boatraced.
Recruiting class looks great.

1. Bo, when asked about a different start time for Michigan games - "Toe meets leather at 1:05 PM. If they want to televise it, great. If they don't, that's fine too."

Nemo's still runs shuttles to the Wings' (as well as all Detroit teams) games, just as many other establishments do in Corktown, Downtown, Jefferson corridor.

Even if Hornibrook isn't great, they still have the best O-Line in the country and one of the best RBs in the country. An average quarterback can pick you apart if given enough time. Their defense is also good, even with the injuries.
The Wisconsin game scares me wayyyyyy more than MSU or PSU, because they will keep the score close. In that type of game something fluky can change the outcome.
|06/21/2018 - 12:06pm||If you have heard any…||
If you have heard any interviews with him over that last year or so, he's admitted to partying too much and hanging with the wrong crowd. His path to getting clean and sober and staying that way, while trying to make it back to the NFL is what is interesting about this story. Not to mention he was one of the most exciting college football players ever and I would love to see him playing on Sundays again. He and Deshaun Watson would make every game they play in more interesting.
Also, there's nothing like a late CFL game to tide you over at night after the Tigers game is over.

Amazon FireStick/TV is great for all streaming applications and has web browser functionality.
As an aside, you can "jailbreak" your firestick and use applications such as Terrarium (what I currently use) or Kodi (might be defunct now) to stream any movie or tv show. Plenty of youtube videos out there to show you how to do it.

Can someone expand on the #1 jersey thing? I was young when Braylon played. I remember watching him, but wasn't old enough to follow off the field stuff.
|05/25/2018 - 10:55am||You have to trust Harbaugh||
Not only does he have a proven track record of winning, but Warde trusts him enough to publically say he wants Harbaugh to coach at Michigan for the rest of his coaching career. Let's hope the coaching dysfunctionality is solved with Drevno's exit and the new hires this year.

|05/09/2018 - 2:09pm||The issue is...||
the bigger games such as MSU and OSU (granted not at home this season) will cost you just as much if not more than buying the entire season. The relatively dull schedule this year probably has the most to do with the lack of interest.
Personally I have tickets in the corner closer to the sideline than not, and I love the seats. I plan to keep my seats and keep inching toward the 50 yard line, so that I can have great seats at a relatively consistent price, and not have to go through the hassle/price gouging on the secondary markets.

|03/22/2018 - 1:23pm||Remember||
3 > 2
|03/11/2018 - 3:50pm||I disagree mostly.||
I agree that the NCAA would do it to milk a few more dollars out of the tournament.
In terms of the teams playing, I think it would be absolutely miserable to play in that game. It's not like the olympics where 3rd place is still meaningful. There is only one national champion and everyone else's season ends in disappointment. Wichita State and Syracuse would have liked to have had another crack at the teams that just beat them I'm sure, but to play each other in a meaningless game just after their season was essentially ended doesn't sound appealing
In my personal experience playing in and watching tournaments at the youth and high school level, the 3rd place game (if there is one) lacks intensity and just seems forced. Selfishly I would like to watch some good teams play basketball during that lull, but the competitiveness would be down and I do not think the product would be very good.

|02/21/2018 - 12:48pm||What?||
So one real drive resulting in 3 points in regulation isn't good enough? The result of the game is only representative of the team as a whole, not individual parts. By your logic, a running back with 200+ yards and multiple TDs in a game did NOT have a good game if the team didn't win.
I would also argue that any truly great team (National Champion/CFP caliber) has to have at least a mediocre offense/defense if the other side of the ball is actually elite. Is there an example of a great team that won in spite of a less-than-mediocre offense/defense?
|02/20/2018 - 3:55pm||"Unconsciously competent"||
Is an unbeleivable term.
Beilein was describing when a player gains enough experience and understanding to do what's right without having to think about it. Applicable to more than just sports too.
|02/14/2018 - 1:40pm||Moe on Switches||
Seems like a HUGE missed opportunity. Teams are now regularly switching their tiny guards onto Moe because they know he can't post up. It baffles me that Moe has not figured out how to out muscle these guards for position. I don't know if the coaches haven't been pounding it in enough but it has happened regularly since the first Purdue game.
When you get the ball into the post when a small guy is guarding Moe, either Moe gets a great opportunity to score or somebody has to help, opening up good looks from beyond the arch.
|02/06/2018 - 12:45pm||Am I crazy||
to think that M by 1 on kenpom and a 1 1/2 point spread is way too close? I understand that home court advantage is significant, but in this case it's less so. M has had trouble with the zone but Beilein has to have something cooking to beat it. I cannot imagine than M will only score 5 points in the first 10 minutes and they still beat NW by 9 in that game.
|01/25/2018 - 1:31pm||Doesn't matter||
how many NBA prospects you have on a team. Look at a guy like Aaron Craft, albeit very different than this Purdue team, no NBA future but drove us and other opponents crazy for years. Also, Haas arguably has a brigher NBA future than anyone on M, as Moe's draft stock has sputtered this year and others still remain unproven/uncertain.
This Purdue team is dangerous as it has a kind of damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. You have to guard the Haas and double team him with some regularity, but that leaves guys that are on fire from 3 open. Don't double Haas and he'll tear you up inside. And don't forget they have an even taller "double a" in Haarms who is better on defense.
If Purdue suddenly goes cold from three, I'll share your optimistic sentiments.

|06/14/2017 - 2:25pm||But isn't the idea||
But isn't the idea here to still play opponents albeit with a slightly higher chance of loss but still basically a gimme? You still build team chemistry and can develop young/bench players.
IMO there really is not a significant benefit to playing the dregs of the dregs that you can't also achieve playing slightly better teams. In the worst case scenario a loss to one of these teams would also hurt less than say NJIT.
