Ohio State Presser: Urban Just Looks Pissed

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on December 4th, 2018 at 2:16 PM

He spoke for about 15 seconds. I don't think he thanked anyone besides "Buckeye Nation." Looked very pissed. Gene Smith talked more about Shelley than about Urban.

He looks cool to me. I think it’s just bittersweet, he’s a coach and it probably hurts to give it up. I’m sure this is more of his family’s decision than his, but he’s knows it is best as well for his long-term health.

After watching this press conference, I’m convinced it was staged and he’s not happy with it.

Lets see how much work he continues to do for OSU!  He will be coaching within another year and Day better have a new strength coach because Urbs is going to yank Mickey!

More so, he seems like a guy with a big ego.  If it was Bo handing off to Mo, he would be deflecting the conversation onto the new coach.  Rather, the conversation was all about Urban.

Ryan Day barely spoke

If I were Michael Drake, I wouldn't go anywhere without a witness...... that dude might end up getting Kashoggi'd somewhere downtown Columbus.

Whatever the case, agreeing to 'retire' at the end of the season wasn't enough for the one trustee who resigned because he was embarrassed by the 'Gong show' investigation.

I suspect details will leak out eventually.

NO NO NO... He was not fired because of $38 million dollars. If he walks away and retires he is owed nothing. But I have a feeling they still have him some of his contract to go away personally. They didn’t want to get in a pissing match.

Contract had lingo in it that if he was fired because of lack of control etc he would be owed $0 dollars. OSU just wanted it over IMO.... regardless I hate the fake ass dude, but a hellava coach

I think this decision was made during the investigation process in an attempt to save face for Urban. They wanted to fire him at the beginning of the year but knew they owed him an out otherwise their fans would've staged a mutiny. The headaches, retirement, family time, etc, it's been in the works since September. I think Day also knew he was auditioning for the job. My two cents which prob ain't worth either penny.

Agreed - this seems like it was all orchestrated back during the "investigation".  Eventually it will become public what Urban's "retirement" package entails, but it is likely worth nearly $38 million on a PV basis thru a number of "retirement benefits" that will be hard to quantify by outsiders.

I have to say, Ryan Day seems like a genuine guy ... however, give him time in that armpit of an institution and they will warp his character.  When Gene Smith referred to OSU as a "complex" place the word that jumped to my mind to replace complex was "criminal" ... does it get any sleazier than tOSU ?

Ohio State will now be cursed.  They sold their soul to the devil and now that Urban is gone, they will be cursed for the next 20 years and Michigan will go 18-2 against them starting next year.

Ok I watched it. You guys are seeing things that aren’t there. He didn’t look pissed at all and certainly spoke for longer than 15 seconds and answered a lot of questions. I think there is some straw grasping here.

So from what ppl are saying, I gather

- Meyer is angry at some OSU board members, maybe looking for payback

- Meyer might interested in proving his worth, that he's better than Day

- Meyer might not be as sick as claimed

And he's now... potentially free to interview for HC jobs? Interesting...

That he'll be staying on in some capacity really has to be a downer for opposing fans.
