Onward: Rashan Gary Comment Count

As expected since committing on Signing Day 2016, Rashan Gary will be playing in the NFL next year. The top overall recruit of his class helped establish Michigan as a premier destination after Harbaugh's first year. After a season backing up Chris Wormley, when not sidelined by/playing through a nagging shoulder injury, Gary was quietly dominant as Michigan's starting Anchor for two seasons.

Since Gary's draft stock is already well established, and given his injury history this year and last, it seems doubtful he will play in the bowl game. I'm sure the vast majority of Michigan fans will understand and wish him the best of luck in what will assuredly be a fantastic pro career.

In his time at Michigan Gary's work ethic and leadership were by all accounts on par with his ludicrous talent. Though it's sad the injuries meant we didn't get to see him Suh it up while in Ann Arbor, that season and many more good things will be coming his way. It was an honor to have him while we could.

Michigan awaits decisions from several other early-entry candidates, including Devin Bush, David Long, Lavert Hill, and Shea Patterson.

Best of luck! He will make Michigan proud in the NFL, like Brandon Graham, et al. Wish he had more time at Michigan but his injury situation shows that it can all be taken away at one play, and he is ready for the League.

Thanks Rashan!  You will always be a Michigan for not just the accomplishments you have had on the football field, but most importantly for sacrificing your last 3 years in representing this university as a collegiate student athlete.

Go Blue!

There will be discussion on whether he lived up to the hype at UM. That is normal and acceptable football talk (for the record I think the hype would have been impossible to live up to).

There will never be a doubt he put it all out there with a work ethic that was "full go" and was truly a Michigan Man. Thank you sir and best of luck to you in the NFL!

Thanks for everything Rashan. It was a great 3 years, hopefully you go on to have a very successful pro career. I can't blame him at all for going, this is the smart decision for him but I always do hold out hope even for surefire 1st rounders that they will come back like Lewan did.

Rashan will always be remembered as one of the most important pieces of the foundation for the "Michigan rebuilding project".  His "star status", as the #1 recruit helped draw in several other pieces to that foundation.  Not only was his talent outstanding, but he always carried himself as someone all of us fans should be proud of.  Rashan was part of the foundation for this mansion that is being built, and I will always root for his success the NFL and life.  :)

Much thanks to Rashan Gary for showing how the term "scholar-athlete" can be meaningful even now. He clearly benefited as a person from being a student-athlete (rather than in a "NFL developmental league", if it existed); and the university community/his college class surely benefited from him as a student, not as "just" a cog in a big money business.

Good Luck to Rashan.  He and his mother seem like good people.

He tried hard at Michigan, but ultimately never came close to his perceived ceiling.

If you were to ask me, I would rank him near Peppers as talented players at Michigan who were good players, but under achieved and did not win anything of significance.
