01/05/2018 - 11:28pm On the plus side we can only

On the plus side we can only hope that pep/drevno get the boot but how is one supposed to react to this?

01/02/2018 - 3:44pm Schematics is the result of

Schematics is the result of coaching.  Drevno and co need to go and we need to plug the holes in the rest of the ship.

01/02/2018 - 3:43pm Apologists can rationalize,

Apologists can rationalize, and haters can hate, but the reality is stark and difficult to deal with.  There is a lot to work to do and this past year hasn't been kind for the Harbaughs either - Crean fired, John chokes and blows a playoff birth, and then Jim's mess.  Let's hope for a better year.  Right now everything in my life sucks; my kids, my job, and my beloved M team.  It can only go up.

01/01/2018 - 6:50pm Amen bro.  You ought to read

Amen bro.  You ought to read what Amani Toomer said.  I mean, the dude was Mac Daddy in the NFL and made a mint.  He knows what's important.

01/01/2018 - 6:49pm While folks always point to

While folks always point to "meaningless" bowl games, they are in my estimation important.  Important to recruiting, important to showcase your players and conference, and it's a punctuation to the season.  Who from M will get tape from today's game and who can use today's performance in the battle of the recruits?  Say what you will, "meaningless" bowl games do matter.

01/01/2018 - 6:36pm The AD disconnected the fax

The AD disconnected the fax machine.  I know, I tried sending them one.

01/01/2018 - 6:12pm I don't see why you are

I don't see why you are trying to rationalize away a disaster of epic proportion.  Sure, it's just a meaningless bowl game and like earlier season games where we set squad records for penalties, today's game we tied the Outback bowl record for turnovers.  As much as you try to put lipstick on a pig, well oink, oink.  There are serious problems in Ann Arbor and they need to be fixed, not justified and glossed over.

01/01/2018 - 5:59pm I am sorry, but I stand with

I am sorry, but I stand with one of Michigan's all time greats, Amani Toomer.  It's three years in and I am not seeing it.  Although I felt for JH, during his post game presser, he appeared listless and was stammering.  Darn it, he should have owned up to his ball players and fans for one of the most epic collapses in M history.  Things need to change and enough of these Rome trips and fluff.  Build a winning program.

01/01/2018 - 4:27pm He could start with an

He could start with an apology to his players and fans.  Then he should promise to make substantiative changes in his coaching staff.  Throw some stuff and then walk out.

01/01/2018 - 4:24pm I am beyond apoplectic

I don't think that I've witnessed a greater degree of humiliation and an epic collapse since the ASU game. This is the end of year three and it looked like a Hoke squad today. It's time for some serious changes in this program and NOW.  Ban me if you want, but Michigan greats like Amani Toomer are 100% correct about what is happening.

12/09/2017 - 11:46am Man, I miss the "Michigan

Man, I miss the "Michigan Football Guide" but it hearkens back to the days when Domino's pizza was edible and students were students.  Can't believe the tool who emailed you.  He has no basis and is just a troll.  Love what's going on with the program - Go Blue!

12/02/2017 - 9:28pm I’m watching wisky and ohio

I’m watching wisky and ohio playing for the B10 championship; they’re both garbage. To think we had both of these teams on the ropes... it just grinds me.

12/02/2017 - 1:15am A stellar, detailed analysis

A stellar, detailed analysis which breaks down nearly every facet of what went wrong. However, I’ll still stick with the premise that it was the wrong play called at the wrong time. Yes ohio lined up in a cover two and then executed a cover three. Why wouldn’t they with 2:45 to go and M driving for the win with a third string qb who suffers from the very maladies you describe? If they had stayed in a cover two, perhaps the poorly thrown ball would have fallen incomplete but maybe not as the ball was no where near the target. Moreover, if M was emulating an air raid then why was jok lined up over center (it requires a qb to do a full read) and out of a relatively tight formation? JOK’s success in the passing game was mostly on the edge and with primary, scripted reads. It just didn’t make any sense in my mind and if M wanted to throw it downfield then the primary should have been a TE dig, or WR corner or out routes. It just seemed like a desperate play with plenty of time left and we were moving the ball. Did Pep/Drevno think they would catch ohio napping?

11/28/2017 - 8:11pm Best of luck Drake and we

Best of luck Drake and we wish you the greatest success.  Go Blue.

11/27/2017 - 8:13pm JOK made some plays and

JOK made some plays and missed others. Ultimately, it came down to an errant pass with 2:45 left in the 4th quarter, down by 4. In my mind, while JOK made a bad read and a worse throw, the blame was as much his as it was the OC’s for calling this bone headed play given the defensive alignment and JOk’s limitations. While I appreciate the frustration the f-bombs and hate directed at JOK was uncalled for. I have to applaud Brian for stepping in.

11/26/2017 - 9:07pm What a class guy and despite

What a class guy and despite the criticisms, he stepped up each and every play.   I applaud his fortitude, hope he is recovering, and wish him the best of luck.

11/26/2017 - 8:57pm Point well taken and when JT

Point well taken and when JT went down, Haskins came in and arguably played just as good, if not better.  For that, I have to congratulate ohio.  Hopefully, with time we can achieve that depth.

From a larger perspective, the only game we were resoundly beaten was psu.  To think that we had both wisky and ohio on the ropes and these chumps are playing for the B10 championship is just infuriating.

11/26/2017 - 8:54pm Well, JH and staff had the

Well, JH and staff had the guys pumped and ready to play.  The first quarter was nothing short of phenomenal as was most of the second and some of the third.  The WR's need to learn how to go up for balls and get separation and this is particularly important moving forward.  The play call at 2.45, down by 4 in the 4th, was IMHO just incredulous especially with the d alignment.  Yes, JOK made a bad read and throw, but the call should have never been made.  Period.  And that I attribute to the OC's.

11/25/2017 - 6:18pm Amen, bro and we had scored

Amen, bro and we had scored 20 points largely on schemes which worked. So pep and drevno played Russian roulette with a cylinder loaded with 6 bullets and were surprised that JOK’s brains were splattered throwing downfield?

11/25/2017 - 6:08pm Proud of the coaches?

Proud of the coaches? Really? We’re down by 4 driving with 2:45 left in the 4th quarter with a meager qb who can hardly throw and the coaches call for a deep throw against a two deep safety d? Are you kidding?

11/25/2017 - 5:45pm Well, will a reporter ask

Well, will a reporter ask these questions? Of course not.

11/25/2017 - 5:42pm JT goes down, his replacement

JT goes down, his replacement was just as good or even better. Sorry, but M shouldn’t be in that position.

11/25/2017 - 5:36pm Did I miss something, cause I

Did I miss something, cause I was in the stands. The fans were great as usual and were cheering all of the way. For 57 minutes, it was a well fought contest and yes the officiating was bad as usual. But we were down by 4 with 2:45 to play and we had the ball and were able to determine our own fate. A loss is a loss, but wtf was that play calling? Having a guy who can’t throw, chuck one deep across the middle against a two deep safety d? Sorry, but it felt like the oc was saying f.u. To the fans and the players who played their hearts out.

11/19/2017 - 9:47am This thread is lit up and

This thread is lit up and it’s difficult to read much of the angst. On the one hand there is the camp that we’re a young team, developing, and predicted to go 8-4. The other side argues that teams like wisky, 3 years into a new system and with an offense which apart from a couple of seniors is equally young and yet they somehow are able to perform (I could throw GA in there as well). There are merits to both sides and the situation is infinitely more complex than expressing blind loyalty or firing Harbaugh. Neither of those approaches are valid and given the challenges with a diminishing number of quality kids playing ball, scholarship and other logistical issues, injuries, and the changing landscape one has to accept reality. It is fair to hold Harbaugh and his coaches accountable and if they are unable to be successful, Harbaugh needs to retool (I'd love to hear reporters ask these questions) Sure, I would love to win the B10 and maybe the NC, but when I look back where we were for the past 7 years (losing to garbage Rutgers, MD, etc) and watching the stands empty out in the 4th quarter as opposed to where we are today, I am cautiously optimistic. Whatever our record, I’m much happier being associated with this program than the filth down in Columbus or E. Lansing. Go Blue!

I may be half way round the world at the moment but can’t wait to see the wolverines take on the badgers. Can’t say anything with certainty other than I’m hoping for a good game and a Michigan victory. Go Blue and stomp the badgers.

I was half way around the world, watching the game on a cheesy internet connection and couldn’t have been prouder. Way to go Blue, mend up, and let’s play a full game against whiskey.

It’s all great and M is in the drivers seat.

11/04/2017 - 6:09pm Ohio losing to Hawks and Bosa

Ohio losing to Hawks and Bosa ejected for a bone headed targeting. What could be better? Let’s go Blue and beat the gophers.

11/04/2017 - 4:04pm Great analysis. Hate playing

Great analysis. Hate playing under the lights but Go Blue! Also hope the Hawks mess up the bucs.

10/31/2017 - 8:03pm Say what you want - and I

Say what you want - and I hate both ohio and psu- it was an exciting game. Watching Franklin’s stunned look as his defense was shredded by JT was priceless. Now let’s beat ohio and give meyer the finger.

10/30/2017 - 6:55pm It’s good to see JH a bit

It’s good to see JH a bit more jovial. CFB is a tough business and it is important to keep perspective.

10/28/2017 - 10:18pm If I’m not mistaken, Peters

If I’m not mistaken, Peters was recruited by Jedd Fisch? Anyhow, I think we’re getting a taste of the kind of kids that JH can muster. The wolverine’s future is starting to take shape and it appears very exciting.

10/28/2017 - 4:14pm Yes, it was a nice showing

Yes, it was a nice showing but I was a bit disappointed to see our d burned again on the big play which was essentially a replay of last week. Watching ohio struggle against psu and based on our performance today (yes, I know it was Rutgers), there’s a lot to be optimistic about.

10/28/2017 - 3:24pm It was good seeing a M qb

It was good seeing a M qb look like a qb. We’ll see how he performs moving forward especially when facing tougher teams but it was a refreshing change to fumble and panic.

10/28/2017 - 9:38am Sorry, you're ill.  I picked

Sorry, you're ill.  I picked up similar symptoms at PSU - stinkin lions - and am still battling the effects nearly a week later.  At least it wasn't scarlet fever.  M rises to the challenge and puts some hurt on the knights.  Goodknight Rutgers.

10/26/2017 - 10:14am Love his candor and

Love his candor and insights.  Much more informative than most other pressers.  Perhaps this approach should be adopted more widely?

10/25/2017 - 5:24pm You too?  I was at the PSU

You too?  I was at the PSU game and not only did we lose but two days later, I woke up with a sore throat, chills, myalgias, headache, and have been feeling like dog poo ever since.

10/22/2017 - 12:14pm Actually, I was impressed at

Actually, I was impressed at how JH handled himself after the loss.  The media has gone off the rails and if one looks at the irrational talk in the Freep...  perhaps it is the reality of a 24/7 news cycle or an increasingly impatient fan base?  Look, this is CFB and with the decline in the number of kids playing ball, increasing media exposure, and the difficulty landing stellar recruits, the playing field has really changed.  It is increasingly difficult to establish and sustain a dominant national power house programs than in years past.  There are plenty of formerly dominant teams who are now ghost programs including Texas, Nebraska, etc.  We're in much better shape than any of those places and have to deal with the new reality of the more cyclic nature of CFB.

10/22/2017 - 10:57am Talent is a factor but

Talent is a factor but executing with what you have is more important.  PSU has a stud RB, a decent qb, and one/two TE/WR's.  The rest of the team simply executes.  While we don't have a RB on the level of Barkley - who will probably win the Heisman, if our guys executed every down, the outcomes would be diffierent.

10/22/2017 - 10:54am Try getting squashed by angry

Try getting squashed by angry defensive linemen, linebackers, and safeties and then come back to me about handling pressure.  While agree that Peters deserves a shot, I'm not the coach and JH has a lot more experience and knowledge than I.  Perhaps, you should shoot Jim an email with your insights?

10/22/2017 - 10:51am I don't think this is a fair

I don't think this is a fair statement.  Our CFB program has been in shambles for the last ten years but rebuilding has only started in the last 3-4 once we had a stable and focused AD and coach.

10/22/2017 - 10:49am Sorry, after my experience at

Sorry, after my experience at beaver and butt-head stadium I'll reluctantly be supporting ohio.  I wish both teams could lose I dislike both.

10/22/2017 - 10:46am Well, that really depends on

Well, that really depends on the coach and the system.  Watching PSU last night, demonstrated the principle of taking a few talented players, plugging them into a relatively simple offensive/defensive scheme, and then execute repeatedly.  CFB isn't the NFL and young players can be fooled, get out of position, miss blocks, blow coverage, etc.  That's part of the excitement.

Quite frankly, my criticisms of M this year have been directed more at the coaches.  As we've seen time and time again CFB and the NFL are different.  Some coaches do well in one league or another, but it is the rare individual who can have success in both.  Look at Nick Saban - two years as head coach at Miami and he turned around a loosing season to go 9-7 and then followed that with a 6-10 year.  His record at 'bama speaks for itself.  Consider the d-bag, Pete Caroll.  The cheater went 97-19 at USC, won two NC's, and his teams were always in the top 5 after a few disasterous years as a .500 baller as HC of NE.  Then he leaves and turns around the Seahawks winning multiple division championships, a superbowl and losing another.

JH has won in both leagues and the challenges at the collegiate level are numerous from recruitment, development, youth, academic and behavioral concerns.  He's hired a smack down defensive guru Don Brown and we've seen some really great things on defense (apart from last evening).  The other side of the ball has been a bit more difficult and in my opinion the problem has been in execution of an unnecessarily complex offense scheme.  Hopefully, JH will learn from his successes/failures and adjust accordingly.  I for one am not giving up and while I wish this season was different, a long term perspective is key.

10/22/2017 - 8:48am After one of the earlier

After one of the earlier games in the year, someone said (it might have been JH, or a player), that you can't have 10 players doing their job on every play while one doesn't and expect to be successful.  That was really the theme of the game again on M's side of the ball.  Dropped passes, missed blocks on sweeps, drive killing penalties, blown coverages, and guys out of position.  Sure we would all love stud playmakers but if guys executed what they needed to do, we might not have won but the game would not have been so lopsided.

10/22/2017 - 8:37am Dude, where were you

Dude, where were you sitting?  Our seats were in the M alumni section and your experience of Beaver (and Butt-head) stadium was a carbon copy of mine.  Over the years we've been to every stadium in the big ten and apart from ohio and sParty we've never been subjected to so many f-bombs and taunting.  Even walking to the car, these d-bags would lean out of their decked out 80's style cars and shout f-Michigan.  From their behavior, one would think that these morons had  lost the game?  Given PSU's sordid history, I think dropping the f-ing thing would be wise?

10/22/2017 - 2:49am I watched Peters at warm ups.

I watched Peters at warm ups. Rocket arm, very precise. Hard to know how it translates in a game.

10/22/2017 - 2:42am A couple of random

A couple of random observations now that I got home from state college. First, we had a good time hanging out at the bars and met some very friendly psu fans. Likewise when we moved to the tailgating in the parking lots around the stadium, folks couldn’t have been nicer and some even offered us drinks, food, etc. But interestingly all of that changed once we went inside beaver stadium. That place is a dump; think of some dumb psu engineer dropping sParty stadium on top of Ross-Ade or another crappy other venue. The place was a friggin, ADD nightmare. Music blasting every second, advertisements, and promotions galore, and stupid promo bits. When the wind would blow the stench from the pig farms around the stadium became unbearable. Speaking of pigs, the fans were relentlessly rude, constantly baiting and antagonizing M fans. A real surprise for us. As we left the stadium, there were constant f-bombs and swearing from random psu dopes, and by their attitudes, one woulld suspect they lost. It was simply awful, and M fans don’t realize how great we have it in Ann Arbor.

In terms of the game itself we were outplayed by a more talented squad. What impressed me is our kids never gave up, and we saw some improvement in the offense in its ability to sustain a couple of drives. They could have done more and it seemed that penalties and dropped balls killed any mo. Okorn played reasonably well but our receivers have to get separation and the times he got sacked or flushed out was largely due to downfield coverage. The dropped balls killed us and quite frankly I only saw one or two of okorn balls sailing. The majority were catchable but our receivers just can’t hold on. The D got burned early and seemed to have trouble adjusting to the plays where they lined up Barkley in the slot. If he stayed they passed and if he came in motion, they ran but our D didn’t have any answers. Also the direct snap to Barkley was problematic. Look we won the last three in a row from these chumps and they got the best of us tonight. They can gloat all they want but psu is hardly a number two team.
