[Matt Miller] Dwayne Haskins (rsSo.) to return for 2019 season according to "sources."
In Matt Miller's most recent draft board, Miller excludes Haskins claiming that his sources have indicated that the sophomore QB will return for the 2019 season.
It'll be interesting to see if this encourages current backup QB Tate Martell (RsFr.) to transfer.

Good. Great pocket passer but not the athlete needed for a traditional Urban offense to succeed
November 15th, 2018 at 5:31 PM ^
Well he won't be playing for Urban next year one way or the other.
November 15th, 2018 at 5:45 PM ^
He may be a good NFL QB one day, but the eyeball test sees a good college QB that isn't yet ready for the NFL. Basically the same thing I see in Shea.
November 15th, 2018 at 6:09 PM ^
I've seen Shea make a number of throws that Haskins struggles with. Take away Haskins' dink and dunk game, I'm not sure what is left.
November 15th, 2018 at 6:57 PM ^
What do you mean? Haskins has been one of the most accurate long ball passers as well that hits his receivers in stride.
Really, the only weakness I have seen is Haskins' ability to escape pressure, which plays into Don Brown's hands perfectly.
November 15th, 2018 at 8:26 PM ^
ya, other than size, arm strength and plenty of stats, haskins really has nothing.
November 15th, 2018 at 6:31 PM ^
Well, OSU is a hotbed for teaching QBs to be NFL ready so.....
November 15th, 2018 at 7:31 PM ^
BTW Terrelle Pryor got cut from the Bills roster yesterday (as a WR).
November 15th, 2018 at 9:15 PM ^
Everybody gets cut. Cut by you. Cut by me.
November 15th, 2018 at 7:39 PM ^
Did you type that with a straight face?
November 15th, 2018 at 7:38 PM ^
He's ready for the NFL. Great pocket passer. Great pocket awareness. Can make all the throws. I'm not sure what you're looking at but the only problem for him is Urban/OSU. The only reason to wait is if he isn't in the top 10 picks next draft.
November 15th, 2018 at 7:54 PM ^
Haskins is very talented and will be a good pro IMO, but he's definitely not ready yet
November 15th, 2018 at 5:51 PM ^
I think that is why OSU has started to give Tate Martell some snaps within the redzone and obvious running downs now. During the bye week, OSU practiced some packages designed for Martell, and similar to the ones used during the 2006 Florida season with Chris Leak/Tim Tebow.
November 15th, 2018 at 6:28 PM ^
I'm pretty much expecting OSU to come out and give Tate the second series against us, maybe even a set of downs on the first series. And if that goes well for OSU, then it's going to be more Tate than Haskins in our game.
November 15th, 2018 at 7:35 PM ^
Martell will be on most every 3rd and short as well as in the red zone. And I'm fine with that.
November 15th, 2018 at 8:40 PM ^
yep. Second string qb that we didn’t have film on was the key to their Victory last year, but harbaugh and brown will not be fooled again.
November 15th, 2018 at 10:39 PM ^
That would pretty much guarantee Martell comes back and Haskins leaves.
November 15th, 2018 at 10:19 PM ^
Not having a QB that is a threat to run changes OSU's offense fundamentally from what it's been for a long time. And makes it far easier to defend, as we'll see in a week.
November 15th, 2018 at 5:16 PM ^
Can't imagine it would, even if Hawkins comes back it'll only be for one more year , giving Martell potentially two years of running the offense and let's be honest, Martells not exactly an NFL prototype.
November 15th, 2018 at 5:51 PM ^
If Haskins comes back next season it's not a foregone conclusion that it's for only one more year. It's got to depend on how his season goes. Martell would do well to work on graduating early. It doesn't make much sense to transfer if he has to sit.
With all the uncertainty in Columbus, I wouldn't believe any decision to return is definite, not for anyone who has a real choice to make.
November 15th, 2018 at 6:33 PM ^
He was damn near a Heisman candidate this season, I don;t think you come back after that for two more years of college football as a passing QB, a running QB would be a different beast, but we've already established that's not Haskins' game.
November 15th, 2018 at 5:21 PM ^
Let's see if he reconsiders at about 4pm on 11/24, after fully processing the shellacking
November 15th, 2018 at 5:22 PM ^
He knows Michigan is going plummet his draft stock.
November 15th, 2018 at 5:23 PM ^
I know his stock isn't as high as it was a month ago, but him returning is about as bad a decision as when Jones came back a few years ago. Just go and get paid, someone in the NFL will take a shot on that high upside talent. He will be lucky to be starting by the end of next year in a Meyer offense.
November 15th, 2018 at 6:35 PM ^
This is not bad advice. I don't think he's going to keep an NFL job for very long, but if someone's dumb enough to give him one this year he should make like Bobbie Sue.
November 15th, 2018 at 7:10 PM ^
I agree. I keep thinking that at this point, Meyer has realized the problem and is just buying time until he reveals his all-running-QB, all-Tate offense against us - an offense that they're spending more and more practice time on these past few weeks.
And if that offense catches us by surprise or does better than the offense with Haskins at the helm, then Haskins won't play much against us and will find himself on the bench come 2019.
November 15th, 2018 at 7:41 PM ^
Catch Don Brown by surprise? Doubtful. If we can see it, he can see it. Moreover, they are prepping Martell in OSU's old offense which we've faced multiple times. I'm fine with letting a redshirt freshman try and run that after only a couple games against a Michigan defense that's ready for it.
November 15th, 2018 at 7:44 PM ^
That was my first thought as well. If he comes back, there's a high likelihood that he won't start.
Maybe he should head to the Big 12
November 15th, 2018 at 5:23 PM ^
I hope he's healthy enough to come back. It's going to be tough sledding next weekend.
November 15th, 2018 at 5:23 PM ^
Why would Martell transfer?
November 15th, 2018 at 5:46 PM ^
Yeah doubt it. Haskins probably plays one more year and goes to the draft. Behind him they have Martell, Matt Baldwin who they picked up last year and a kid who walked on with no major offers Kory Curtis. And they have no QB in their recruiting class which is still at 15 and doesnt appear to be growing anytime soon based on top guys their in on that remain undecided.
Martell is a better fit for Urban's offense than the other two, should he remain their coach for two more years.
Edit: They do have Dwan Mathis in the 2019 class, sorry.
November 15th, 2018 at 5:59 PM ^
There is also former WVU grad-transfer and walk-on Chris Chungunov. I don't believe Chungunov has gotten any playing time yet, but IIRC he is currently the 3rd string QB as Matthew Baldwin continues to rehabs from a knee injury.
November 15th, 2018 at 9:52 PM ^
I heard Chungunov and Hotel Putingrad are tight.
November 16th, 2018 at 11:10 AM ^
Maybe it has something to do w the fact his back up in high school for 3 years in high school has just landed on campus and already has started multiple games and Martell is just sitting there. He gone boys! West Coast here he comes
November 15th, 2018 at 5:23 PM ^
There's no incentive for Martell to transfer under that scenario. Even if he stays behind Haskins on the depth chart, he'll see the field in some packages. By transferring, he'd still lose that year of eligibility without playing at all considering he's not far enough along to grad transfer.
November 15th, 2018 at 5:30 PM ^
This will be one of the weakest QB draft classes in a while. If Haskins declares for the draft, he'll instantly be a top-3 QB prospect alongside Oregon's Justin Herbert, and WVU's Will Grier.
Then again, the projected top-5 of the NFL draft aren't exactly QB hungry teams outside of the NY Giants.
Personally though, I just have a hard time seeing Haskins come backs unless it is for sentimental reasons.
November 15th, 2018 at 6:28 PM ^
Herbert is staying another year to play with his brother.
November 15th, 2018 at 5:34 PM ^
I'm somewhat surprised by this given the fact that the Draft doesn't have that many good QB's in it.
November 15th, 2018 at 6:40 PM ^
Agreed. I've seen Herbert may stay another year too. And next year's draft would include Tua, Jake Fromm, Sam Ehlinger, Shea if he stays, Haskins if he stays, Ian Book, Nate Stanley, potentially Jacob Eason, and whoever else ends up breaking out. This year will be watered down.
November 15th, 2018 at 5:35 PM ^
He'll regret that next year after he leaves the Big House.
GO BLUE!!
November 15th, 2018 at 5:37 PM ^
At some point during The Game OSU will bench Haskins for Martell and end up winning.
November 15th, 2018 at 5:42 PM ^
Nope. They are going to eat Haskins' lunch then they are going to eat Martell's lunch.
November 15th, 2018 at 9:54 PM ^
Wrong, we'll eat both their lunches AND take their lunch money for tomorrow.
November 15th, 2018 at 11:06 PM ^
November 15th, 2018 at 5:43 PM ^
Just like MSU was going to beat us when you decided you would rather rake leaves than watch Michigan lose? Why do you bother man? The basketball team was in the Championship game last year and the football team is knocking on the door of the CFP and playing as well as anyone in the country. And yet, you act like our program is Rutgers. Go away with your glass completely empty shit.
November 15th, 2018 at 8:08 PM ^
*Glass half-empty and pissed off because everyone else's glass is half-full...
November 15th, 2018 at 5:44 PM ^
That is exactly my concern. Barrett going out of the game last year ended up hurting us because we were not prepared for the backup. I hope D Brown is prepared for Martell in case they make the switch during the game.
November 15th, 2018 at 5:51 PM ^
Since Martell is now part of the offense due to Haskins limited running ability, they will most certainly be prepared when he comes in.
November 15th, 2018 at 6:02 PM ^
I highly doubt any of our coaches leave anything to chance. The Don will have plans for every qb they have.
November 15th, 2018 at 6:29 PM ^
The most Ty Butterfield post of all time.
