Line v PSU jumped to UM by 12; news?

Submitted by RJWolvie on November 2nd, 2018 at 12:13 PM

Just noticed the line on PSU game tomorrow jumped from UM by 10.5 to UM by 12. Was there injury news or any news anyone knows of? I couldn’t find some, but would love to know (even) more reason for optimism...

Yes. The news is that they need more people to bet on PSU to even out their books.

For the (insert galactic scale number here) time, the spread is about leveling bets, NOT what anyone thinks the actual score difference will be.

The question is: If it was roughly even betting at 10.5, why did people all of a sudden start betting on Michigan enough to move the line to 12.5? That's a huge shift a day before the game. If this had happened on Monday, your reasoning makes more sense. Seemingly, something changed to make people bet on Michigan.

The reason is simple. People are reading and absorbing the Don Brown press conference transcript. This isn’t Happy Jack City. Penn State is in for a world of hurt.

This is odd because as of yesterday it appeared to be that 62% of the consensus was PSU and the points.  I would have expected the line to move the other way to balance it out.  This is why I stay away from betting.

Speaking of interesting betting lines, I see Bovada has ND as a 10.5 favorite at Northwestern. 6:15 pm kick. I am tempted to put money on Northwestern.

Strongly disagree. Nebraska will score at least 21 on offense. If you factor in one OSU turnover or a big special teams play, that line becomes very difficult to cover.

A heavy unusual amount of bets were probably recently placed by people who just feel Michigan will easily win the game, especially with the possibility that McSorley may not be fully healthy.

Was I blinded or was it McSorley that ran for a 50 yard sprint after he was “injured??”

Smoke and mirrors. McSorley looks as healthy as it gets, halfway into the season for a true dual-threat QB.

I didn't quite catch it, but Sam and Ira mentioned that Kwity Paye said something in his news conference that implied that Rashan Gary is playing.

I should add that they said something afterwards like "yeah Gary will be back this year."   So it wasn't definitive for PSU.
