Watching From Afar

That's pretty much what it felt like.

When on land between races, you have a water bottle in your hand wherever you go. Take a leak right before you get hands on the boat, go do your 45 minute warm up on the water, 2k race (which takes about 6 minutes) and then paddle back to shore, strap down the boat, go take another leak.

Rinse, repeat for 2 straight days.

Living in Tucson, during the summer there are constant PSAs reminding people to keep a bottle of water with them.  Hell, driving through town everyone on the street has one with them.  I know from experience out here that the effects of dehydration sneak up quickly.

I am glad that I am not the only one who was thinking that there is more reported cramping going on.  Every game I watch 3 or 4 players are stretched out on the ground for it.  The idea of a new supplement is an intrigues me though.

I am glad you pointed this out.  I noticed this as well and have been slightly annoyed by some of the people (the play-by-play announcer from the BTN broadcast crew in particular) who have suggested that time expired much earlier.

I'm not sure why it bothers me. I think it carries a little hint of concern trolling (ballsy play going for the TD, maybe he should have just gotten into FG range and stepped out like a responsible player would have done...).

Or maybe I am just getting old and crochety.

The BTN clock showing clear time left as various BTN announcers repeatedly suggested it was score-or-half was a bit ridiculous. Sonny Dykes should have demanded a kickoff!

I took it as "let's make this a high drama moment" but given it was Metellus, concern trolling seems a reasonable interpretation.

I thought this was going to be a, "What if Hitler's mom, Klara, had terminated her pregnancy, given that she had already lost 4 toddlers to illness?" kind of counterfactual thing. But I guess asking to be taken out right before the play means that the pick-6 really almost did not happen.

Somewhat off topic but does everyone that writes for online publications these days have an app that scans an article and spits out a click-bait title?  "Josh Metellus 'Reveals' how his interception 'Almost didn't happen'"?  Feels like "You'd be 'shocked' to find this interception almost didn't happen" or "Josh Metellus almost taken out of game but you'll never guess what happens next" were also options.

On a lighter note, it's kinda cute how Metellus is dating softball's Tera Blanco.  Now I'm imagining their coaches co-chaperoning their dates, with Hutch telling them to get pizza and Harbaugh insisting on steak and whole milk.

Can't believe no one brought this up unless I overlooked it, but just because they play at UM doesn't mean they aren't used to hot weather. Look where Metellus is from, he's from Florida. I'm sure most of you have been to Florida and can attest to how hot and humid it is. I live in South Carolina and its currently in the 90's with high humidity usually through September into October and Florida is usually a little warmer.

Not discounting the fact he was likely dehydrated and even cramping, but remember most players aren't from Michigan and a large number are from the south where they are used to it.

We were there for the game and as he scored the guy sitting next to said, “Did you notice how he just ran out of gas as he dove into the end zone?” I did notice. Had no idea he had been cramping up. It was a great play for him after the previous pass interference call.
