SIAP: Zach Smith Did Not Inform Urban Meyer of DUI/OVI Arrest

Submitted by FauxMo on

Thankfully, Urban Meyer is off the hook again, as he has Zach Smith - an impeccably trustworthy source - claiming he never told Urban about his 2013 DUI/OVI arrest.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/24367343/former-ohio-state-buckeyes-assistant-coach-zach-smith-says-did-not-tell-urban-meyer-2013-drunken-driving-arrest

Basically, Urban knew in 2009, but did the right thing in trying to help a young troubled couple; did not know about 2013; knew about 2015 but followed reporting protocols; and then knew about 2018 after someone wrote a story about it, and only then fired Smith.

In my opinion, there are only two possible explanations and conclusions for all of this: 1. Urban Meyer is a thoroughly incompetent manager, and should be fired; 2. Urban Meyer is a thoroughly corrupt manager, and should be fired.

Ive said a few times on this board....Meyers and the police dept work hand in hand. Meyers "asks"that if/when any player/coach gets in trouble, to please keep things under the rug or at the very least, let us handle it in house. Im sure there are quite a few police with season tix for doing so.

Urban was probably in the passenger seat next to Smith, and AD Gene Smith in the back seat when this arrest happened.  If that was the case - how could Urban or Gene Smith possibly remember this incident or know what was happening at the time???

Yeah, that all seems too convenient

My question is why every single one of Smith's issues were covered up. Every time charges were dropped and nothing went public. Seems like a pretty great job by Urban to cover shit up to me.

How many readers on here tell their boss when they get DUI's? Lord knows many of mgoblog's readers (assuming they can read) have DUI convictions. This news will have no impact on the investigation or the outcome.

Yeah, exactly.

What on Earth would Zach Smith say the first time Urban told him "hey, go down to Texas and talk to these recruits"?

Driving (illegally w/o a license) to Texas isn't an option, that's a long drive.  The car-rental counter at DFW would never rent Zach a car if Zach couldn't produce a valid driver's license.  And Zach Smith can't exactly ride around in taxis when he is recruiting.  Zach would basically have to tell Urban.

I'm 99% certain that all the car rental agencies contract with TML - they would know immediately if the license was suspended or expired.

I rent a car about once a month.  Even though I'm in the "frequent renter programs" that allow me to go right to the car and skip the counter, my license always gets scanned before I get past the guard and leave the lot.

My employer runs background checks at least annually but I think quarterly and my contract says any OWI/DWI/DUI or “similar” (at the sole discretion of my employer) offense is immediate termination. For the record: my job has nothing to do with driving and minimal to zero travel involved. The reason for the language in the contract is that my company cares greatly about integrity and reputation.

Yeah riiiiiight.....How does an OSU coach get arrested for anything in that state and not have his name plastered all over the place....

Of course OSU knew...

And of course the Bucknuts are going to buy this BS..because Zach is such an upstanding, honest citizen.

So Urban tells us at media day he knows nothing, then comes back w statement that he knew and that’s the truth, now Zach says Urban knew nothing. Please guys! OSU has gotten to Zach and to the mother of the Victim. OSU is trying hard to retain Liar Liar no matter what.

Just cut ties and takes your lumps OSU! Kills me that some wins matter more then anything.

The genius behind Urban is that you can be “zero tolerance” when you make sure nobody tells you anything you don’t want to hear and you don’t see anything that you don’t want to. But know everything else going on at the same time.

This isn’t much different from Tress. He wanted that Gene Hackman in Hoosiers image, yet was completely dirty. As long as you walk around dressed like your Jack Klugman the OSU faithful will turn a blind eye w you.

So Zach Smith is going out of his way to defend Urban!? And so is Courtney's mom!? Oh look everyone is defending the most powerful, and rich person in the whole scandal. Wow shocking. It's almost like they have more to gain by siding with Urban/OSU than siding with some victim with no connections, money, or power.

Shouldn't the police notify a person's employer of offenses like this?  And, why isn't there a background check done periodically with employees?

I had a sales engineer who worked for me and got a DUI. I never knew. He was worried I’d find out and shitcan him. I ended up finding out through another SE. My comment to the employee was to just show up on time, make sure you get to your appointments and there won’t be a problem. His wife drove him, he took a bus etc until his suspension was lifted. I had no desire to fire my employee as long as he still did his job. He had a family and he needed to provide. I was not made aware of his DUI by the police. It was none of my business if he continued to do his job.

smith’s motivation? Is there a chance that he has financial incentive to cover for Urban? Like some promise from a bagman donor or something? Otherwise his interviews make no sense from a self preservation perspective.

How much do you want to bet that McMurphy has texts from Courtney Smith to Shelley Meyer talking about Zach’s DUI that he’s just been holding back, waiting to drop when OSU says no one knew about the incident.

I'm sorry a 6 month drivers license suspension throughout camp/recruiting season, fall camp and the start of the season and NO ONE at OSU knew?

Bull. Shit.

Corruptness has been my argument since Tressel got there. That school will do anything to win football games and keep beating Michigan.

Focusing on the statement from Smith’s lawyer that Meyer knew nothing about the DUI.

First, the lawyer has no clue what Meyer does or does not know.  All the lawyer knows is if Zach Smith told Urban, not whether Urban knew.

Second, I’m supposed to believe that in 2015, when the police supposedly thought Zach Smith did nothing wrong and he wasn’t arrested and he wasn’t charged, they alerted OSU.  But when Smith was arrested, charged and convicted, no one at OSU was informed.

Okay.
