OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 6/14: The Toledo Beachhead
Yesterday we dropped one territory overall. This isn't the end of the world as our attacks were more concentrated in that we wanted to make sure we won key positions rather than winning relatively inconsequential territories. The biggest result from this strategy is that we finally broke into Toledo and we can now reach every single territory in the state of Michigan besides CMU. We are also facing a bit of a front with OSU and Alabama.
Elsewhere in our alliance Florida continues to make waves against Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma. They have some key spots out west at UTEP and Kansas State where they can really be a burden to the opposing alliance. Georgia Tech and Clemson did a great job in nearly kicking OSU out of the Atlantic Coast yesterday. Lastly, Texas expanded quite a bit and is in a versatile position to help out in both the northern and southern front as needed. Overall this may be the most promising map our alliance has seen in quite some time.
Steps To Play Every Day:
- Sign up for a reddit.com account if you don’t have one already
- Visit https://flair.redditcfb.com/ " go to “find by conference," click “FBS” then “Big 10” and finally “Michigan” to set yourself as a member of our team. Click “Update Flair” to set it.
- Visit https://michigancfbrisk.com/ and click “Get Order!”
- Click the blue chessboard beneath the logo that you’re meant to attack/defend to take you to the game.
- Scroll down, now, and on the right hand side of the screen, you will see the options that you can attack or defend. Click the school logo that you were assigned to
Do not ever attack any territory that is owned by one of our allies unless specifically told to do so in your orders. Our allies are Clemson, Florida, Georgia Tech, and Texas. If you get an order to attack an ally owned territory then it means we are coordinating with them, so it is acceptable. Otherwise, do not attack allied territories or defend territories that allies border please!
Make sure you aren't flagged as a bot
One potential issue with the influx of new users we had is that some players may have been flagged as a bot and therefore their actions may not be counting. If you are flagged as a bot you will see the image below on vote.redditcfb.com
If you are seeing that message follow the steps below, otherwise you can ignore this.
- Follow the link shown in the screenshot above and fill out the google form
- Wait at least one day for the text box to disappear. If it does disappear, you are all set.
- If the bot disclaimer message persists after one day, then message the mods of /r/cfbrisk directly. You can follow the link in step 4 below to do this in one easy click.
- Be patient as the mods of the game are busy and they are putting a lot of effort into running this thing.
Daily Map:
Im still upset about the karma. Just hit 500 and I want my 3rd star!
I agree. I think it is bullshit that they changed the rules in the middle of the game...
I joined Reddit just for this, got 120 Karma on one day, but it has me stuck at 7, because they stopped it at 10AM that day...
This is bull shit, how are we losing territory!
Some bad luck played a role. We should have easily taken Cincinnati based on our numbers. Lost one to Alabama where we had a lead on star count too. Just keep reloading and firing. We have 3700 stars now, almost twice as many as OSU. In the end probability don't lie.
lol, the dice have come up against the M team for WEEKS. Every 3 days there's a "had some bad luck" explanation. Losing 80-20 rolls consistently, every 50-50 attack.
I'd have a stats guy look at the numbers
Exactly what I have been thinking. How often does a red team lose the 80/20, 70/30 matchup.. Stanford just kicked our ass with about 12 guys. lol
We are losing territory because, even though we have the largest army, we have Wisconsin, OSU, and Alabama all focusing their fire on us. It'll be easier with Florida, Texas, GT, and Clemson all touching those guys now.
And we should expect to lose 80/20 matches 1/5th of the time. We are also winning battles we "shouldn't" win. RNG is RNG is RNG. If you look at the numbers, our wins are pretty darn close to our "expected wins" total.
At least our Risk play is being consistent with our actual football team
We’ve lived this for years on the football field. One day our luck is going to turn in a magnificent way.
not only that but we also have twice as many active users as than the next team but have stalled on gaining territories.
Can you validate me?
Jdenb13.
Thanks,
You are a good person and your contributions to society are significant.
Uhm - I think the order site might have a bug, I'm definitely logged in as a Michigan man, but I got orders to attack Michigan today.
You're attacking the territory Michigan, which is currently owned by Wisconsin.
I think the game would have been a lot clearer if they used city names instead of school names for the territories. "Attacking Ann Arbor" would still be weird, but I think it's easier to comprehend -- "oh, we lost Ann Arbor earlier, so we need to regain it."
That, or just called everything Kamchatka and Irkutsk. ;)
I had to defend Penn State today and I have to admit I felt a little dirty doing it with that terminology.
All -- please try to limit discussion of orders in open forum. Our adversaries read this discussion for clues.
Having said that, I feel your pain.
Will there be a single team crowned as the winner at the end? If so, will the alliances have to turn on each other in the final days in order to gain the most territories individually?
Yes, and probably, but it behooves us for now to maintain the alliances.
Are you familiar with the board game "Risk"?
But how are the algae levels on the Toledo beachhead?
Currently good. Once we win Toledo, proceed up I75 to Exit 9 and visit me at Toledo Beach Marina for a beer.
Today's orders - Attack Michigan State
....with pleasure!!
SSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Keep your orders private, Private!
Lol, double secret head fakes all over the place.
Looks like a front (being roughly defined by the Ohio river and the Mississippi River south of Kentucky) is forming. Would be great to kick out the Red teams out of territories behind that front so our Alliance could push west without worrying about having to defend/attack territories behind the front.
Florida also did some good work down south taking two OSU territories.
OSU is down to 7 now. I hope we can put them out of their misery in short order. Allies all over the map on OSU borders. The battle for Ohio is going to be brutal. OSU has some major firepower, 2012 stars, the 4th highest -- they need to GO.
I don't know the mechanics of the game well, but it seems really hard to knock a team out. Once they get down to a very few territories, all their star power gets concentrated. While an attacking team with lots of territories has a lot to defend.
More to the point, it's bigger than simply focusing your firepower where the opponent is today. They can abandon that territory, knowing you'll do so, and aim to win an adjacent territory. As said above, it's difficult to eliminate an opponent, especially without ganging up, some favorable territory setup, and some favorable RNG luck.
Agreed, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't try. It seems like we should take out a smaller team e.g. Alabama or Wisconsin to help minimize directions threats can come from. Also, we should be constantly trading territories with our allies to gain "MVP" awards for 1 or 2 star players which will ultimately raise their and our team star rating, especially since the recent kibosh of the karma rating.
Karma stars no longer count in the overall star rating?
Sorry, that was poorly written. If I understand correctly, we can no longer raise our star rating through karma.

If we lose Toledo, we lose the U.P.
Wait, I thought when we lost Toledo we gained the UP.
I was playing a little reverse psychology.
I just joined yesterday, so I can relate. Here's what you can do. Click on the territory you defended/attacked. You should now see the daily ownership history for that territory. For yesterday's action, click on Day 45. Now you should be able to find your Reddit name in the list for UM. Good luck.
ok so I finally decided to open one of these threads and followed the directions. Is there anything more involved than clicking the box that I was assigned? No movement of troops? Virtual dice rolling?
Nope; just click once a day.
Not sure whats going on, but reporting for duty
When are you executing the Schlieffen Plan and pivoting to destroy your enemy's flanks? That will crush some Buckeye nuts.
Thank you for the method for confirming my activity. I can finally rest, er, work on getting a second star.
Discord username J. (or possibly J.#1799 -- hard to tell). I just got an impossible instruction (defend a territory not owned by Michigan).
Hi all, i've logged in and have made a move two of the last 4 days. However, my orders have been to attack Notre Dame - this seems futile since they've been eliminated. I just want to be a good soldier and follow orders, but if attacking Notre Dame is the thing to do, i'd like confirmation from someone. Thanks!
