Thank you, Seth! I'm glad…

Thank you, Seth! I'm glad your family is coming out the other side of this whole thing. When health stuff gets wild, it's crazy how much you say to yourself "all I ever want in this existence is for things to go back to normal". My brother and I have been battling some brutal health stuff the last few years and it is exhausting to keep fighting - I can't imagine putting that burden on one of my children. I think you already understand this, but being in the hospital and going through all of this stuff can stick with you for a long time. So please do take care going forward. And thank you again for directing us to these great initiatives.

My Indy Bro.  I live here…

My Indy Bro.  I live here now too, and it’s been great these last two seasons being able to watch the Big Ten Championship game in my own backyard.  Go Blue!  Go Blue forever!

I don’t know how to format…

I don’t know how to format this on my phone, but I’m going to try to attach a graph I made … it basically shows the frequency at which Big Ten QBs throw TDs and INTs, in terms of “passes per TD” and “passes per INT”.  For example, CJ Stroud is throwing for a TD every seven pass attempts, and throws a pick once every 55-ish attempts.

It’s clear this far in the season that JJ is the most INT-averse QB in the conference, while racking up TDs at a good clip.  Also, Iowa is downright allergic to the endzone.

Here are some ideas:

Two…

Here are some ideas:

  • Two excellent options are on the other side of downtown (about 2 miles from the stadium) - the first is the new Bottleworks District of Mass Ave.  It's a renovated Coca Cola bottling complex with different food vendors and lots of fun activities, including foosball, pinball, duckpin bowling, ping pong, and bocce.  Getting to and from that area is the biggest issue - an overpriced uber would do the trick nicely, or you just go for a nice long walk (at least the walk is right through downtown the entire way).
  • The Fowling Warehouse is in the same general area as Bottlworks, so the same logistical caveats apply, but it's bowling with footballs!
  • The Punch Bowl Social is much closer to the stadium, and has many of the same types of activities - bowling, arcade, pinball, ping pong, etc.
  • The 16-Bit Bar+Arcade is smack in the middle of downtown and is all ages until 7 pm - it's an arcade!
  • To the west is Speedway Indoor Karting, which is - surprise - right by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  The karts are fast!

I'm sure it'll be packed on Saturday, so perhaps those options on the Northeast side might actually be less crowded, but I don't really know.

In my experience, there is…

In my experience, there is plenty of parking available within walking distance of the stadium.  The stadium has its own giant parking lot, but there are lots of other garages nearby, including the Circle Center Mall.  And it's all very affordable compared to, say, downtown Chicago.

I did my part this year. …

I did my part this year.  Before going to bed on Friday night, I bet my entire Draft Kings balance on OSU money line, hoping that it would be enough to appease the football gods.  I also wore the same UM shirt that I wore when I had my stem cells collected at UM hospital for  transplant to my brother.  It felt very lucky.

I also paid $300 (after fees…

I also paid $300 (after fees) for upper deck seats.  I justified it by the fact that I live 30 minutes from the stadium.  Merry Christmas to me?

This is actually a spectacular photo!  I knew I loved Bucky when I was hanging out at the Union and he showed up and pretended to chug my empty pitcher and rub my head.  My spirit animal is Bucky.

Well, as a UW grad, I…

Well, as a UW grad, I obviously would like to win this game.  And as a UM fan, I would obviously like OSU to lose this game.  So, my rooting interests are harmonized.  Fire the cannon.

I just think it's funny…

I just think it's funny because Jim Harbaugh is sort of a walking meme of obsessiveness - remember "attack each day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind"?

So you're telling me that…

So you're telling me that Jim Harbaugh, of all people, is lacking in passion / obsession?

I live in the Indy burbs now.  Ann Arbor is way cooler, but Indy's pretty nice for a mid-sized city.  Good place for kids.

My day has come!  I also…

My day has come!  I also lived there for 7 years.  IMO, Tipsy Cow's goat cheese curds are the best in town.  The game is on Sept. 21, so hopefully the weather will still be quite warm.  If so, hang out at the Memorial Union Terrace and have some beers by the lake - it's pretty much the crown jewel of the university.  Walk up and down State Street, have some beers.  Best cocktails (IMO) are at Merchant and Heritage, if you want to drink cocktails.  The Old Fashioned is quintessential Wisconsin.  Try a brandy old-fashioned there.  Also order a pickled egg from the bar.  Here's a secret: the Tornado Club (normally an expensive steakhouse) starts serving up $10 steak sandwiches after 10 pm in their lounge, and they're amazing.  Farmer's market on Saturday morning, lots of tasty samples.  The best new upscale restaurant is Graft on the square (at least it was a year and a half ago when I had to move away), if you want to drop a little more money on a fancy dinner.  The capitol building has an observation deck, would recommend.  Ride a bike around Monona Bay.  Take a walk down Picnic Point, a very unique spot in town (make sure to climb out on the tree in the water at the end!).  Man, I could go on and on.  Drink some beers though, and enjoy.

You can hear him speak to an interviewer in this video.  His accent sounds indistinguishable from any other American to me.  This article in The Athletic details his background before the paywall:

He spent the first seven years of his life in the city of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.  When his father's employer, Shell, transferred him to Scotland, the whole family moved to Aberdeen.

Ojabo spent the formative years of his youth in Scotland, noticing how the people were much quieter than the Nigerians he'd been around.  They kept to themselves.  They weren't chatty.  He began to emulate them.

When he arrived in New Jersey at age 15 to attend Blair Academy and play soccer and basketball, Ojabo was surrounded by louder people again.  Americans.

I love it!  I do these types of things for fun once in a while, it's a blast to learn new methods and explore neat questions.  I use R exclusively because I never learned any other language, but python doesn't seem so different at first glance?

I would take Dylan McCaffrey's broken collarbone as my Marcus Hall Epic Double Bird of the Week.

I thought for a minute that…

I thought for a minute that maybe the safety just made a terrible decision in anticipating the check down throw to Higdon, but it doesn't look like he even thinks about helping out the DB, so it's probably just like you say - a wacky play call.  Maybe Dantonio thought Shea would be too intimidated to uncork one in Spartan Stadium?

Let's just go ahead and crush this GoFundMe.  The less financial stress Ace has to deal with, the smoother and quicker his recovery will go.  This is our chance to take care of our man, so let's do it.

Will there be a single team crowned as the winner at the end?  If so, will the alliances have to turn on each other in the final days in order to gain the most territories individually?

I would go ahead and ignore

I would go ahead and ignore this diary entry. If you'd like to know anything in particular about Madison, I'd be happy to tackle any questions you might have. I lived there for seven years and I loved it.

I did grad school at

I did grad school at UW-Madison for 4 years and stayed to work for 3 more years, and I finally had to move away this last summer.  In that time, I started my career, met and married my wife, and had our first baby.  I really gained my entire identity in those 7 years in Madison, and I became very attached to the university and the city, but I never got to see the maize and blue in Camp Randall!  Sadly, I can't make it back to Madison this weekend to welcome all of you to the city that still feels like home to me.  It feels very weird and sad, like I'm missing the party that I always wanted to host.  Even though I don't know you, I will miss you all.  Please have lots of fun, eat lots of brats, and drink all the beer.

I believe Duluth Trading

I believe Duluth Trading Company is based in Mt. Horeb, WI. Not far from Madison, actually.

Every tailgate in Madison is

Every tailgate in Madison is stocked to serve 2-3x the number people that actually belong to the tailgate. This is by design. Brats are a human right.

My coworker says he was at

My coworker says he was at that game as a UW student when it started. He said the students were very drunk that day and it just sorta happened. He's moving to Oregon to start a cannabis farm, which is pretty much the most UW-Madison thing I've ever heard of. So I believe him?
