As a Wisconsin fan, I am not optimistic about this game.  As a Michigan fan, I am also not optimistic about this game.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

10/09/2018 - 12:29pm Let's just go ahead and…

Let's just go ahead and crush this GoFundMe.  The less financial stress Ace has to deal with, the smoother and quicker his recovery will go.  This is our chance to take care of our man, so let's do it.

Thanks for this perspective, you make some very good points.

Will there be a single team crowned as the winner at the end?  If so, will the alliances have to turn on each other in the final days in order to gain the most territories individually?

I don't mind the daily posts at all.  I like hearing the updates on the war effort.  I receive and execute my orders every day like a good soldier.

I got to enjoy the schadenfreude last weekend in Florida at a restaurant when we took down FSU.  Is "Indy Pete" from Indianapolis?  Hello from a recent Michigan transplant to Indy by way of Wisconsin!

Yeah I think the worse team had a better day today.  Hopefully they cool off before they face Michigan - it's a bit scary to face a hot, hot team.

I would go ahead and ignore this diary entry. If you'd like to know anything in particular about Madison, I'd be happy to tackle any questions you might have. I lived there for seven years and I loved it.

11/16/2017 - 9:46am I did grad school at

I did grad school at UW-Madison for 4 years and stayed to work for 3 more years, and I finally had to move away this last summer.  In that time, I started my career, met and married my wife, and had our first baby.  I really gained my entire identity in those 7 years in Madison, and I became very attached to the university and the city, but I never got to see the maize and blue in Camp Randall!  Sadly, I can't make it back to Madison this weekend to welcome all of you to the city that still feels like home to me.  It feels very weird and sad, like I'm missing the party that I always wanted to host.  Even though I don't know you, I will miss you all.  Please have lots of fun, eat lots of brats, and drink all the beer.

11/14/2017 - 8:23am I believe Duluth Trading

I believe Duluth Trading Company is based in Mt. Horeb, WI. Not far from Madison, actually.

11/14/2017 - 8:20am Every tailgate in Madison is

Every tailgate in Madison is stocked to serve 2-3x the number people that actually belong to the tailgate. This is by design. Brats are a human right.

My coworker says he was at that game as a UW student when it started. He said the students were very drunk that day and it just sorta happened. He's moving to Oregon to start a cannabis farm, which is pretty much the most UW-Madison thing I've ever heard of. So I believe him?

If, say, Georgia runs the table and loses to Alabama in the SEC Championship game, why shouldn't their win over Notre Dame be considered as much as Wisconsin's still-hypothetical win in the Big Ten championship game?

If Georgia gets axe murdered by Alabama in the SEC title game, I don't think anyone would want to see them go to the playoffs to get axe murdered by Alabama a second time.  Wisconsin should hope that one of those teams gets obliterated by the other.

11/06/2017 - 1:55pm Catan occupies an interesting

Catan occupies an interesting spot because it's lightyears ahead of, say, Monopoly, in terms of sophistication, but it is still accessible to casual players.  There is strategy, but once you figure out the optimal approach, it becomes pretty formulaic, and then it's almost like playing euchre, or blackjack.  You play the hand that will give you the best odds, and you ride it out.  The more serious board game player will soon find Catan to be too simple, and they'll move on to more complex (and time consuming) games, like Terra Mystica or something.  Or if you're like me, you retreat to even speedier and simpler games, like One Night: Ultimate Werewolf, or the lightning fast card game, Coup.

It seems to me that his enthusiasm for being authentic and being who you are is a big part of his ethos. I find his respect for this quality to be an admirable trait. Nobody can ever say that Jim wasn't a real dude.

I wish we had the other angle on the one good O'Korn throw, because it was magnificant and rare.

10/09/2017 - 9:31am I'm with you.  It would be a

I'm with you.  It would be a painful and frustrating loss against anyone, and it's worse against MSU, but it's no mystery why we lost this game.  I know we had ratcheted up our expectations at the start off the season with the hype coming out of summer practices, but the combination of a fantastic defense and an extremely combustible offense will keep a lot of games close this year.  We'll lose some games that we "should" win, but maybe the defense can get us into position to pull off wins against some tough teams like PSU, Wisconsin, and OSU.  I have to accept that this probably won't be a playoff type of year, but I hope we can still mine a lot of good things out of it and maintain an upward trajectory.

I see what you're saying.  I try not to be a hater tot, and I'm not super down on Speight, but I have to admit that O'Korn's compact, quick motion is more aesthetically pleasing.

09/27/2017 - 12:13pm The drop in the bucket gif is

The drop in the bucket gif is so smooth.  The side-to-side movement of the ball syncs up perfectly with the receiver as he breaks away from the defender.  It's like a space station docking.

09/26/2017 - 8:02pm We are still trying to find

We are still trying to find good markers for Alzheimer's pathology. It's challenging to find peripheral factors that we can easily access and measure that robustly reflect the progression of a disease of the brain that takes decades to become symptomatic, but it can be done. Actually, that's a limitation of the study OP linked to - doing the histology on postmortem brains is a good first step, but we need to be able to examine something in the blood or CSF. Or there could be characteristic brain activity or metabolism that we could see with MRI or PET. Anyway, the NIH and NIA (and others) are aggressively funding this problem, and there are a lot of talented and determined people working on it. I have a pretty positive outlook that the next one or two decades will yield big changes.

09/24/2017 - 8:54pm I would be happy with Speight

I would be happy with Speight if we were running the ball effectively with dominant offensive line play, but I'm wondering if we may need the extra dimension (accepting the turnover risk) to keep defenses soft enough to run on.

09/07/2017 - 9:54am Meyer has never really

Meyer has never really bothered me.  Florida had a ton of disciplinary problems under him, but OSU doesn't seem nearly as bad as those teams were off the field.  He's never demonstrated a bad attitude, he respects the rivalry, and he's spoken out about issues of mental health.  He's a hyper-competitive person who coaches the bad guys, but I don't get the impression from what I can see on the surface that's he's rotten deep down inside.

09/05/2017 - 9:46pm Wisconsin.  I have an

Wisconsin.  I have an unparalleled emotional attachment and engagement with Michigan athletics, but I identify with UW first as an institution, and with that comes their athletics in a clear second place.  In my time in Madison, I earned a PhD, did 3 years of postdoc, met my wife, and had our first baby girl.  UW gave me everything I have in my personal and professional life, and I love it deeply.  But UW athletics is like a party - it's fun, but it's kind of secondary to the university as I know it.  Michigan, for me, is football.  It's how I grew up, cheering for the good guys in maize and blue.  It's really an apples and oranges type of situation, because Michigan is my sports love and Madison is my life.  I confuse my coworkers by wearing lots of apparel from both schools.

The picnic point run is my all-time favorite running route - you can start at the capitol and go down State St. to the Union, then take the lakeshore path to picnic point.  My second favorite route is around Monona Bay.

This list is certainly interesting, but it is based solely on AP rankings, without taking into consideriation anything about NCAA tournament success or championships, which I do think are important facets of a truly dominant program.  So it might be more accurate to interpret this list as an indicator of regular season consistency, right?
