OT: Dee Hart arrested for possession
University of Alabama running back Dee Hart, 21, was arrested Sunday by the Tuscaloosa County Sherrif's Office and charged with giving false information and possession of marijuana.
Hart was booked into the jail at 9:20 p.m. on Sunday and released on a $1,300 bond at 10:33 p.m. Both charges are misdemeanors.
A sophomore in 2013, Hart compiled 78 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. For his career he has 166 yards on 43 carries.
I wonder if this is exactly what Saban wants. He needs to cut down the roster, after all.
UPDATE: Apparently Dee Hart hasn't been on the team since the January bowl loss to Oklahoma. (LINK)
2nd UPDATE: And Dee was using counterfeit money, too?!? (LINK)

You appropriately did not use a "s/" for sarcasm as this is probably true.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Saban was "happy" to hear this news but I doubt he was distraught about it. I believe he has had multiple arressts/releases every offseason so this is par for the course.

omg 5* guy has never seen significant playing time down there. I'm a bit surprised that he hasn't encountered a "medical hardship" of some kind. I wonder if he regrets going to Alabama at this point
February 17th, 2014 at 12:30 PM ^
He's had to compete against an incredible amount of talent in the backfield and he's had at least one major knee injury. Just not in the cards for him to be "the guy" at Alabama.

when it comes to recruiting, and the kid is seriously looking at a school like an Alabama or an SC under Carroll. . . the Cautionary tale to say the least. . .Yeah kid, you're a world beater, BUT. . .
February 17th, 2014 at 1:12 PM ^
for him. Alabama has been using big, power backs for most of Saban's time there it seems. Michigan would have been a much better match had RR stayed on as coach. But by the time of his recruitment, the handwriting was already on the wall.
February 17th, 2014 at 12:43 PM ^
I can't remember where I read it, but yes, he has been quoted as saying he regrets (at times) choosing Bama.

couldn't coach players up. Go figure.

An aside question: Why is it that so many football players manage to get caught smoking weed? We know weed is popular among players. But I doubt it's any more popular among players than it is among students in general. And yet how many students actually get arrested for smoking weed? When I was in college, I was surrounded by stoners. But I don't recall a single one of them ever getting arrested for smoking a joint. I can't prove this, but it sort of feels as if maybe players get targeted -- especially black players in southern towns.

Daily crime notes are the absolute best. Hell, my dorm room made it in after one night when my roommate burned popcorn and DPS took it up the entire bureaucratic ladder. Turns out standard operating procedure is calling your parents at 4AM. Wish I'd framed the clipping.
February 17th, 2014 at 3:22 PM ^
Sure, sure, you and your roommate where burning "popcorn" at 4:00 AM. Yeah, right!
February 17th, 2014 at 12:40 PM ^
second or third handed stories of friends of friends getting popped. Given how much pot was around, I'm pretty sure our predominantly lily-white population was at least part of the reason no one ever got caught.
February 17th, 2014 at 2:33 PM ^
because we're all too brilliant to be caught
February 17th, 2014 at 12:33 PM ^
They don't report on random college students getting arrested for possession.
February 17th, 2014 at 12:34 PM ^
February 17th, 2014 at 12:35 PM ^
but I'm guessing a hell of a lot of guys who get popped take a look at what prompted the police to stop them and they come to the same conclusion you just did.
February 17th, 2014 at 12:36 PM ^
If there was a post for everytime someone got arrested for weed this place would become RCMB.

Your points and the replies all are plausible. I'd add to the list having it in a car. Back in my Mich days, it was very open and very obvious in people's homes, but no police officers ever came to the door. Being pulled over on the other hand...

I know regular students don't make headlines. But I just don't recall ever seeing regular students booked for smoking small quantities of weed. And I went to three different schools. Almost always, cops just confiscated the weed and left. But maybe it's a north/south thing. Most of the players who get arrested seem to be in southern towns.

saban already got what he needed from hart - a buddy for HaHa. he's going to be cut in some righteous press release about how this kind of behavior is only tolerated when saban doesn't need to cut his roster down.
