Lament, for 2013 is not done with you, human being with a Michigan soul dong. Per everybody, last night one of those awesome things you were hanging your hat on when the universe was all like "I'm going to put you in a Copper Bowl that doesn't even call itself the Copper Bowl" is also no longer happening:

[THWOMP!]

Campbell (hello post) is a top ten overall sort of recruit and like Peppers, is one of the guys Michigan could use as leverage to convince other top recruits that the program's on the upswing. He's teammates with 2014 OL commit Mason Cole, who is probably hiding in a bunker right now.

[zzzZZZZWAP!]

Hope? Tim Sullivan wrote last night that his status is "no longer a solid commitment" and that he's yet to call the coaches (not paywalled), postulating this could be a ploy to take in the visitation process. Lorenz notes that Michigan is "still being considered" before mentioning another receiver M may look at. Hope is nice, but I think it's a formality.

[SPLONK!]

I don't have to remind you to be nice on Twitter, or ruthless with those who aren't.

I'm not here to argue that Borges had a great season - but to point that to the reason Campbell is leaving might not be accurate. Even in a poorly called season, Michigan's #1 WR had these stats:

80 REC, 1284 YRDS, 9TD

Including setting the ALL-TIME record for rec yards in a single game.

George wants to look around, eh? Does that make him... Curious George?

Hahahaha see what I did there because his name is George and [/dies a little inside].

Long way to go until NSD 2015. Maybe he just wants to consider all of his options.

This is just one more reason why we should not live and die by the decisions of a 17 year old kid who hasn't proven anything on a college football field yet.

if i were an offensive skill player and i watched Michigan play this year I would have some serious questions about putting my college career in the hands of Borges

Eh, signing day is what, 14 months away for him?  Maybe the guy just wants to take some free visits, and per "the policy" that means he can't be considered a Michigan commit and hold his spot, even if he's still intending on coming.  It's not like he can't do that in the spring, go, "hey, Michigan really is the place for me" and still be committed like NINE MONTHS BEFORE SIGNING DAY STILL AND BEFORE HE'S EVEN DONE AS A JUNIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL.  I mean, jeez, we've really gotten spoiled with the early commits.  And let's get real, if in May or something he's taken visits and says "yeah, I want to come to Michigan" the coaches aren't going to be "oh no, sorry, we can't use a 5-star top 10 prospect, we're full up with those"

While I would still like to get and keep the toprecruits out there, I've seen more than enough top recruits flame out/turn into busts and lowly rated recruits turn into stars to not really care anymore.

We're lucky enough that even in the worst case scenario, the recruits that we can attract here are much better than most programs can attain.

At this point it's about getting good players that fit our system and building depth so Freshmen are Reshirted, dont hit the field until at earliest their RS Sophomore year and winning games.

That's how you build programs - I hate to say it, but MSU is a great example of this. Depth at every position on the field and in turn the cream of the crop rises to the top of the depth chart.r

I have a very "meh" feeling about all of this. If Borges is truly the OC genius he says he is, then next year our Offense will be lights out and this kid will come back into the fold to be part of an exciting team on the upswing. If not, we will have much bigger problems than George Campbell decommitting.

There is too much that can happen between now and his actual signing day for me to be worried about his commitment right now. Ask me again in December of 2014 and I'll let you know.

100% Worst Thing Ever? Seriously? Over a 17-year old maybe choosing another school?

I just can't get worked up over a kid who's about 2 years away from being on campus, and probably 3 years away from being a significant contributor.

Good for George for deciding he committed too early and taking more time to look around. It's a great life choice. I hope after gaining perspective, he finds out his first choice was the best one.

While it is rough to see kids decommit, this one is not as big a deal to as losing Harris or Peppers.  While Campbell has all of the measurables that you look for, his on the field production and dropsies were a cause for concern.  I could see him being a better defender than a reciever anyway at the next level.  His hype has been at a Ricardo Miller level.  I hope he will see that the grass is greener here than anywhere else, but if he stays decommited, oh well.

Its like Brian thinks that his line has ended and his City-state is being crushed by trolls.  In response, he has lit himself on fire and jumped from the highest point he can find.

(Actually, that troll thing almost kinda happened.  Keep Brian away from lamp oil!)

It's cool guys, this is why we recruited a bunch of talent.  Some degree of attrition/chaos should be expected, and I think many of us factored that into our impression of these recent recruiting classes - that is, the classes are so robustly good that it provides some cushion and mitigates the effects of chaos a little bit.  Obviously it's better to have George than not, but the class is still good.

When you go 7-5 and play like we did in games this year, these types of setbacks are going to come up in recruiting.    I'm not saying that GC had this as his only reason for decommiting or even considered it.  But, I think it's highly likely other schools have been hitting him with this to place enough doubt to look elsewhere.  Either way, he has every right to do so and plenty of time to make his decision.  I'm sure that the coaches and Mason Cole will keep working on him, and hopefully he will remain in the fold in the end.

But they've backed that up on the field and in their coaching haven't they.  They bring in a swarm of 3 stars, some 2s, and a few 4s here and there and have been Big 10 contenders 3 of the past 4 years, and 11+ wins in that same time frame.  The mocking of MSU as they have owned us the past 6-7 years is a bit hilarious.

Statement was based from seeing posts all year long about how the M big recruits have not produced while Sparty runs the table with middle of the road guys. 5 star decommits and people seem to be thinking M will be no good again. Just think its funny how the posts go both ways. Based on the posts this year you'd think no one would care if there's 5 stars coming here or not. Gotta wait & see who shows up really, guys like Jake Ryan.

All the more reason we need to have a really good season next year, preferably one in which we win at least 10 games and beat one of MSU/OSU.

the amount of attention, pressure, and cajoling that these kids get. I got a ton being just a college student. 'You should think about going to X if you want to pursue Y....'

Nowadays, with all the social media, it has to be nuts.

I really hope that he recommits. I really hope Brady and company can convince him to come back.

That said, I wish him well wherever he goes, and hope he has some peace in the process. While I love following recruiting, so I guess I'm part of the problem, I wish more of this could take place behind the scenes.

This is why I don't follow recruiting. The kid has a ton of time to decide where he wants to play. Anyone saying he did this because MIchigan had a subpar year is purely speculating,

Here's my pure speculation: Maybe Michigan blew him away in their pitch so that George committed, but upon more thought and seeing how FSU became a powerhouse overnight maybe he just wants to explore all his options. And why not? He's got a ton of time to decide.

It sucks right now, but it is what it is. It's best not to freak out at stuff like this.

I'm sorry you two feel dumber. You should do something about that. His uncle appears to be calling the shots. There's something fishy going on. Get your own theory. I could give a shit what you feel. Get a therapist.

It's really hard to pull elite talent out of the South or West to come to Michigan.

You look at weather, weak conference, distance, and a under performing team. Imagine the cost of his family to travel to home games at Michigan. It's astronomical compared to a drive from Tampa to Tallahassee.

I never get my hopes up about getting a beast from down South or Texas/Cali.

Derek Gorgonstar

but I give him no credit for recruiting well. At the all-time winningest program in the history of the sport, you're supposed to have a top 5 class every year.

And I hate hearing crap like this.
