ND v. MSU, Who do we root for?
Looking at the games this weekend, it seems that the most exciting/interesting game is between two teams we hate. I'm the kind of guy that roots for are rivals (for the most part) outside of when we play them. That way, it is sweeter when we win. Now I know a lot of you are too "proud" to pull for a rival, and I get it, but do you feel better after beating a mediocre team, or a great team? Think about it.
I plan on rooting for MSU in this one. If both Michigan and MSU win the rest of their games before they meet, there is no doubt that would be the biggest game that week. What are your thoughts MGoBlog?

Think of the yakety sax required for that.
Although I don't think Brian Kelly or any of his quarterbacks would survive the game.

This game is even easier since, in general, we want the B1G to do well.

I never go for ND.

Go STAEE!
September 11th, 2012 at 1:50 PM ^
...a 6 OT game.
September 11th, 2012 at 4:27 PM ^
I am hoping for it to look like the garbage game that MSU-OSU was last year.
September 11th, 2012 at 1:51 PM ^
For Kelly to turn purple and for Dantonio to look like a douche
WIN-WIN!!!
September 11th, 2012 at 2:04 PM ^
Anything other than what you describe would be a surprise.
September 11th, 2012 at 3:40 PM ^
ND's QBs to struggle so much that he plays all 3 of them and still has no clue who will start vs us. and also Id like to see Andrew Maxwell NOT get into a groove. that is all.
September 12th, 2012 at 11:01 AM ^
When were periods at the end of a sentence replaced by "that is all"? Been seeing that a lot lately.
September 12th, 2012 at 11:18 AM ^
This comment would have been perfect with a empty line and then "that is all" following.
that is all.
September 11th, 2012 at 3:46 PM ^
I'm curious what Kelly's blood pressure level was at the moment to possibly make him look like that.
September 11th, 2012 at 1:51 PM ^
A Big Ten win over a ranked team would sure be nice right about now.
September 11th, 2012 at 1:54 PM ^
I think the Big 10's reputation for 2012 is pretty much wrecked at this point. Better ND wins and we take them down the following week.
September 11th, 2012 at 2:14 PM ^
I agree. I say we take off & nuke the planet from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
Seriously though, I wouldn't mind it if Michigan has a good year while the rest of the B1G struggles. Conclusion: my Sparty hatred has overtaken my rancor of ND - it's a matter of streaks. We've had ND's number, MSU has had ours. I wish the worst upon the recent best.

Not a fan of the domers, but can't root for sparty.
September 11th, 2012 at 4:08 PM ^
perfect answer-sparty is becoming intolerable-would be nice to take them down a bit-i want them to have some doubts before they play us
September 11th, 2012 at 3:15 PM ^
You're always supposed to root for your little brother, but it doesn't matter, we just need to beat them both either way.
September 11th, 2012 at 3:14 PM ^
Did you forget that ranked team is Notre Dame?
September 11th, 2012 at 4:45 PM ^
Have to root for MSU. It’s a non-conference game for them, and anytime a B1G team wins it makes the whole conference better. Look at everything that went down after last weekend’s games, everyone agreeing what a s**t conference the B1G is this year.
Personally, I try to cheer on the B1G teams whenever they play out of conference. (I said TRY, mind you) It can be very tough. Even find myself feeling a bit of satisfaction when they screw up on a play, BUT… only logical way to defend our schedule, even when it is the buckeyes.
(Also in my book, ND is a greater rival that MSU. May be more of a need to win a particular game a given year, as now, but overall it's ND to me.)
September 11th, 2012 at 1:52 PM ^
Root for ND, do we get into the Sugar bowl last year if State is 11-2 overall after the B1G championship?
September 11th, 2012 at 1:52 PM ^
But I'm always looking at it from a U-M perspective, I'd rather ND win so that they'll be cockier and less needing of a victory the next week against us.
How does it benefit Michigan, that is all.
September 11th, 2012 at 2:11 PM ^
Yes.
Edit: the reply bug is acting up again; this was intended for the guy with bonitus, above.

Commencing my query on an odd trend developing on this forum.
I have a question: When were periods at the end of sentences replaced by “that is all”? I just asked a question.
This question’s inspiration – I’ve been seeing this happen more and more lately at MGoBlog and it troubles me deeply.
I have a two more questions which I am going to ask right now: Wouldn’t the fact that there is nothing after your last sentence be evidence enough that that was in fact all you had to say? Or must the obvious be made more clear?
I just asked three questions and explained what instigated them.
I’ve now concluded my query.
That is all.
Oops no that is not all.
I’m going to randomly share my biggest online pet peeve. People that spell “definAtely” evidencing they learned their grammar via online forums.
The period at the end of the word forums in the last sentence was apparently not enough so let me just say that is all.

I hate Notre Dame with the power of a thousand suns, but Dantonio is such an insufferable dickhead...

It is a tough call - kind of like a certain town in CO choosing a school mascot:
September 11th, 2012 at 1:52 PM ^
to win. That way, everybody will think ND is all good and blah blah blah, and then when we beat them, they will be all like "dang, Michigan is back." Then when State wins all their games until Michigan after they lose to ND, people will be all like State is good and blah blah blah, and then when we beat State everybody will be like "dang, Michigan is really back." But then, ND already beat Purdue and if they beat too many Big Ten teams the conference looks even worse. But then, if State wins, then ND is coming off a loss when we play them and I hate that. Oh my god I'm so confused :(
September 11th, 2012 at 1:52 PM ^
I want ND to win this one time as we play them the following week and I want their team and Coach Kelly to be in full arrogance mode.
September 11th, 2012 at 2:30 PM ^
It's very unusual for us to be the last of the 3 Big Ten teams to play ND. In fact, we're usually first and, at least recently, we've been beating them. Then I'm free to root for ND to keep losing to Big Ten teams because I root for the conference and I hate ND. In this case though, we want them undefeated, feeling the media love and "returning to glory" next week. Best case scenario for going to their house and coming away with a win.
September 11th, 2012 at 1:52 PM ^
and would like MSU to pull it out so we can get some more Brian Kelly Purple Faced Screaming gifs that I like to post on my fantasy football league board.

September 11th, 2012 at 1:53 PM ^
It is hard to decide when you want both teams to win and both teams to lose. I am sick and tired of hearing the Big Ten bashing though so I guess I want MSU to win after several overtimes and lots of expended energy.
September 11th, 2012 at 1:53 PM ^
I'm with ND.
I enjoyed the hell out of that ND-MSU game in East Lansing about 6 years ago, when, after the monsoon, ND comes back from way down and steals it. Buddy had an extra ticket. Good seats.
September 11th, 2012 at 2:02 PM ^
Plus that game was the catalyst of the epic Valenti rant the following Monday.
September 11th, 2012 at 1:54 PM ^
I should give a good read on how strong the MSU D really is this year and how weak the ND secondary is.
September 11th, 2012 at 1:55 PM ^
D'Antonio is a galactically huge ass hat.
September 11th, 2012 at 2:16 PM ^
he is a GHAH. or maybe for him it is G'Hah.
September 11th, 2012 at 1:56 PM ^
Neither.
September 11th, 2012 at 2:34 PM ^
I'm with you. I'll be rooting against both of them, hoping to enjoy some good times at both of their expense. I'd like to see false starts/offsides, fumbles/interceptions, pass interferences, and all-around horrible play.

The Spartan fans, having ingested so much beer, reach critical mass as they enter the stadium, throwing off a few higgs-boson particles, collasping the area into a singularity, which then drifts into space, saving the rest of Michgan.
Sorry - these are just kids playing a game - shouldn't wish that on anyone - how about a lot of deep bone bruises?
September 11th, 2012 at 8:00 PM ^
The Higgs Boson is a creating particle, not a collapsing particle. Therefore, it would be more reasonable to anticipate that a mountain in the shape of a screaming Izzo face will arise out of the turf at Spartan stadium, and would then sway in the netting of the Higgs field like we do, but this time we'll be on the outside looking in, observing something apparently from a seventh dimension.
And the mountain will be populated with tiny ewok type creatures that are only apparent because of their smooth round football helmets off of which bounce the entire electromagnetic spectrum, the source of which will be the East Lansing hinterlands. And it will appear really strange to us.
September 11th, 2012 at 8:10 PM ^
And the local scientists/elites will be desperate to determine whether the Izzoian Higgs field behaves the way that ours does. Therefore they will drill two parallel vertical slits into the mountain underneath Izzo's eyes, and then fire Dantonio-shaped protons at the mountain, and the dantonios will show a wave-like pattern in the stands of the north endzone, confirming that the quantum physics of the mountain behave the same fucking way ours do. They will be greatly disappointed, and therefore begin their search for the nothingness particle because quite frankly we don't need more planet on this planet.

not career threatening injuries. Just injuries that keep players out through October.
September 11th, 2012 at 2:07 PM ^
I'm not rooting for either team. One winner, one loser - we get to play them both. The only game that Michigan State plays this year that really matters is against us. Notre Dame can die in a fire of mediocrity.
September 11th, 2012 at 5:13 PM ^
To be fair, Notre Dame has been dying in a fire a mediocrity for decades. And I pray it continues.
We didn't start the fire...

No punts. Only turnovers/missed FGs. Game called because of lightning.
