OT: Sammy Watkins arrested
Dabo better call up Brian Kelly and get his star WR suspension guidelines.
The controlled substance was two pills, adderal and another schedule 2 drug (per Bruce Feldman on the twitters)
Adderal is a hell of a drug
He is probably hoarding it for gameday. It could really help.
It IS a hell of a drug. Some backyard chemists can probably turn it into crystal meth (adderall is in the amphetamine fam).
And you can turn oranges into alcohol which is why I have long petitioned for oranges to have an age limit.
I might be going out on a limb, but is it possible that he was going to take the Adderall so he could be more focused on the pot?
throw in a few natty lights and it sounds like a pretty typical thursday night in college to me...
My guess would be methylphenidate or one of the new spice compounds
"one of the new spice compounds"
like Melange?
/scifi
It could just be me, but that seems like the opposite of a "new" spice compound.
that old is the new new.
I was refering to synthetic cannabis, similar to what the LSU players were busted for last season. Labs are constantly turning out new derivatives of spice to stay ahead of the law.
obligatory wiki article
Also, fear is the mindkiller.
As a college student, I can tell probably 9 of every 10 college students uses adderall, especially with most Finals happening with these three weeks.
I don't mean to be rude, but I have a VERY hard time believing that 90% of college students today take that prescription painkiller. I've been wrong before (many, many times), but this seems a little fantastic to believe . . .
Adderall is an ADHD medication that helps you focus. And it's not a stretch. People sell them for a few bucks a pill. They're easy to get by telling you're doctor "you can't focus well in school" and then you've got a prescription.
Adderall is a prescription drug, one that can produce double-espresso-caliber bursts of energy and/or "buzzes." And heavy usage can lead to dependance and/or cause unpleasant side effects (irritability, anxiety, insomnia, tics). But Adderall isn't a party drug; it won't get you stoned or intoxicated. Students use it to stay awake and alert -- the same way that pilots use it.
9 out of 10 is definitely a bit high, but i'm with you that it's pretty pervasive amongst college student.
I'd maybe be on the same page if you said "have used", but with regularity, I don't buy it.
College students who use adderall think 9 of every 10 college students use adderall. The actual percentage is probably somewhere around 20% to 30%, varying on the campus.
The category being "people who think everybody else is using a performance enhancing substance or otherwise cheating in some way". I graduated from UM Law in '05 and kept hearing "everyone's taking it" except the person you're talking to. I never took it, never had it offered to me, never heard anyone else say that they took it whether during finals or otherwise.
NFL players also have the same paranoia... they're playing it straight, and everyone else is cheating.
So do taxpayers.
It's probably less than anyone thinks on all counts.
As a former college student, I could tell that probably 9 out of every 10 college students didn't use adderall, even during finals week.
That seems ludicrously high to me, but then I went to college 10 years ago, and I guess it was around that time that there was a huge spike in the number of kids who were diagnosed with ADHD. I know it's common, but figured "common" is more like 20-30% have tried it. Would like to see more data.
knows someone who needs adderall to pretty much function there is no way this is accurate because the drug companies that make this stuff don't make enough of it to meet this kind of demand.
Every month is a serious battle to find a pharmacist that has the drug in stock.
College students simply aren't that patient for that kind of high, they'll find something else.
Based on a survey I made up for this comment, 54.7 percent of students take a drug prescribed to someone other than themselves during their time in college.
How to make up statistics 101:
First, pick a number right over 50%, it convinces everyone that it's a majority, but not enough of a majority to actually double check.
Second, add one decimal point to whatver number you make up, it sounds more legit that way.
I don't think so. I'm going into my 4th year at Michigan and I have never heard anyone mention it. Maybe, it's the people you hang out with.
The snozberries taste like snozberries. Well, probably not on weed and/or Adderral.
prescription in the 80"s = jolt cola+nodoz
I'm a current college student, and exactly 0% of my friends (myself included) regularly use adderall to focus. There was a period of time when it overprescribed for anyone that said they had trouble focusing. In most cases, people don't need it like society thinks they do, and using it for finals is an excuse at best. The weed is still illegal, and so is the adderall without a prescription.
I guess I am out of touch but using drugs to focus is ridiculous, if they are not prescribed for you. I admit I drank my fair share of Mountain Dew in college to stay awake but that is the extent of it. Not trying to be a D*** but if you need drugs to focus, you have problem and you might want to look into getting some help.
Yeah, typo. I was trying to say that people should not be taking them unless they are prescribed to that person. Posting and trying to do work at the same time does not mix.
Put this criminal in prison for at least a few years until he learns not harm society by... uhh... yeah. Good job cops, glad to see our tax dollars are being well spent by locking up kids trying to do well on a test and relaxing afterwards. Obviously being sarcastic, but it's funny that he could have legally popped 5 NoDozes and then downed a fifth of Kamchatka instead (both of which would probably do more harm to his body), but now he could face serious problems in the future.
I know a number of people who crush adderal and roll it into their joints, and plenty of others who have taken it just so they can stay up drinking longer. It's not just for studying for finals.
I sahoudl have said around this time and not regularly and perhaps it's not that high, but the point I was trying (and not sucessfuly) to make was alot of kids do Adderall, I would guess more than pot, so it's not as big of deal as it may seem to have a prescription drug like Adderall.
Obviously it would be better if he hadn't been smoking weed and holding a couple Adderalls. But if he's just a kid who occasionally does this -- in the offseason, no less -- it's really not a big deal. Or, at least, it's no worse than if he was out getting piss-drunk, as most other students do. Note how Watkins, unlike certain other student-athletes, didn't drunkenly assault his arresting officer.
You guys revolutionized drug abuse and premiscuity.
I recognize it's just a typo, but "premiscuity" may be my entry in that contest where you change a letter in a word and give it a new meaning.
- Premiscuity - n. The state or character of jumping around between bases for one's argument.
Let's use it in a couple of sentences, shall we?
- John was the king of premiscuity, changing the basis of his argument every time someone challenged him.
- Some of the board members were guilty of premiscuity - seemingly ignoring the footings of their initial arguments in the face of any evidence contrary to their original position.

Really though, the ESPN article says he was pulled over after striking a curb in a car with temp tags... Maybe he knows TP's car guy...
I'm not nearly as disappointed at "losing" him to Clemson as I once was.
