As a college student, I can tell probably 9 of every 10 college students uses adderall, especially with most Finals happening with these three weeks.

Adderall is a prescription drug, one that can produce double-espresso-caliber bursts of energy and/or "buzzes." And heavy usage can lead to dependance and/or cause unpleasant side effects (irritability, anxiety, insomnia, tics). But Adderall isn't a party drug; it won't get you stoned or intoxicated. Students use it to stay awake and alert -- the same way that pilots use it.

The category being "people who think everybody else is using a performance enhancing substance or otherwise cheating in some way".  I graduated from UM Law in '05 and kept hearing "everyone's taking it" except the person you're talking to.  I never took it, never had it offered to me, never heard anyone else say that they took it whether during finals or otherwise.

NFL players also have the same paranoia... they're playing it straight, and everyone else is cheating.

So do taxpayers.

It's probably less than anyone thinks on all counts.

That seems ludicrously high to me, but then I went to college 10 years ago, and I guess it was around that time that there was a huge spike in the number of kids who were diagnosed with ADHD. I know it's common, but figured "common" is more like 20-30% have tried it. Would like to see more data.

knows someone who needs adderall to pretty much function there is no way this is accurate because the drug companies that make this stuff don't make enough of it to meet this kind of demand.

Every month is a serious battle to find a pharmacist that has the drug in stock.

College students simply aren't that patient for that kind of high, they'll find something else.

Based on a survey I made up for this comment, 54.7 percent of students take a drug prescribed to someone other than themselves during their time in college.

How to make up statistics 101:

First, pick a number right over 50%, it convinces everyone that it's a majority, but not enough of a majority to actually double check.

Second, add one decimal point to whatver number you make up, it sounds more legit that way.

A college student with adderral and weed?? GTFO

Adderral is not for pain or focusing on pot - definitely for finals. At least it shows the kid wants to do well. Half the kids in college are prescribed it and the other half buys it from them. Just how it goes nowadays...

I'm a current college student, and exactly 0% of my friends (myself included) regularly use adderall to focus. There was a period of time when it overprescribed for anyone that said they had trouble focusing. In most cases, people don't need it like society thinks they do, and using it for finals is an excuse at best. The weed is still illegal, and so is the adderall without a prescription.

I guess I am out of touch but using drugs to focus is ridiculous, if they are not prescribed for you.  I admit I drank my fair share of Mountain Dew in college to stay awake but that is the extent of it.  Not trying to be a D*** but if you need drugs to focus, you have problem and you might want to look into getting some help.

the reason they get prescribed the drug because they saw they had a problem and then got help from a doctor? Who are you thinking they should get help from? Aderal is a great drug for people who have focusing problems. It's Just like anything else though, the people who abuse it give it a bad rep.

Put this criminal in prison for at least a few years until he learns not harm society by... uhh... yeah. Good job cops, glad to see our tax dollars are being well spent by locking up kids trying to do well on a test and relaxing afterwards. Obviously being sarcastic, but it's funny that he could have legally popped 5 NoDozes and then downed a fifth of Kamchatka instead (both of which would probably do more harm to his body), but now he could face serious problems in the future.

I sahoudl have said around this time and not regularly and perhaps it's not that high, but the point I was trying (and not sucessfuly) to make was alot of kids do Adderall, I would guess more than pot, so it's not as big of deal as it may seem to have a prescription drug like Adderall.

Obviously it would be better if he hadn't been smoking weed and holding a couple Adderalls. But if he's just a kid who occasionally does this -- in the offseason, no less -- it's really not a big deal. Or, at least, it's no worse than if he was out getting piss-drunk, as most other students do. Note how Watkins, unlike certain other student-athletes, didn't drunkenly assault his arresting officer.

I recognize it's just a typo, but "premiscuity" may be my entry in that contest where you change a letter in a word and give it a new meaning.

  • Premiscuity - n.  The state or character of jumping around between bases for one's argument.

Let's use it in a couple of sentences, shall we?

  • John was the king of premiscuity, changing the basis of his argument every time someone challenged him.
  • Some of the board members were guilty of premiscuity - seemingly ignoring the footings of their initial arguments in the face of any evidence contrary to their original position.
