Kalis tells Meyer to back off
“Urban and the staff were recruiting me hard for a while but I have recently told them to back off some because I am firm with my commitment to Michigan,” Kalis said. “This trip just made me want to be at Michigan even sooner. I really got know some of my future teammates and my host Jack Miller showed me a great time.”

This should end any question about his commitment to Michigan. This kid is true blue, and will probably be the best guard at Michigan since Hutch. I get the feeling that he's starting to feed off the hatred that the Ohio fans give him, which is scary. I wouldn't want to give him any more motivation, because he's already a kid that can dominate in the trenches.

Tremendous.

as it someone used CGI. I suppose if a bear can ride a bike in a circus, it can wave.

This is one of the few freshman who I would be happy to see play immediately, He is just a beast!!
December 15th, 2011 at 5:05 PM ^
Heres how I imagine the conversation
Meyer: "you should consider THE ohio state"
Kalis: "go fuck yourself"
December 15th, 2011 at 5:05 PM ^
Meyer won't be able to believe that his charm and lies didn't work. He'll press on until Kalis gets a Personal Protection Order.
December 15th, 2011 at 5:31 PM ^
Has a recruit ever filed for a restraining order from a coach? That would be amazingly embarrassing for the coach.
December 15th, 2011 at 5:44 PM ^
or in fear of bodily injury to get a PO. I don't Kalis is afraid of jack squat. He would body slam mayer with one arm.
December 15th, 2011 at 5:06 PM ^
and you're of the belief he will be better than david baas? (current best guard since Hutch)
December 15th, 2011 at 6:00 PM ^
The staff didn't put limitations on him?
Here is the cool part - he gets to try, and we get to watch.

One of the best things about following Michigan football has been the ability to cheer for individuals who match ability with character, who develop before our eyes during their time in Ann Arbor. Personal favorites. There's a great long list and mine goes back to Dave Brown (R.I.P), through Stephan Humphries, Kurt Becker, Rob Renes, Glen Steele, Tyrone Wheatley, and certainly Hutch, to name some of the many. And gimpy John Wangler.
We lose three guys this year who are on my list: Molk, Martin, and Van Bergen.
Fortunately, new ones arrive as old ones leave. Kalis looks like one.

I find myself wondering if there are players this likeable on other teams. I would add Heininger to my list. Anyone who is a 5th year senior this year deserves praise for sticking with the team.
December 15th, 2011 at 5:46 PM ^
I would add Patrick Omameh to the list as well. I've never personally met the guy but one of my friends worked with him making those PSA's for the football games and says he's a genuinely nice guy. I've also heard that he's pretty smart from a friend who has a class with him.
Same deal with Kevin Koger.
December 15th, 2011 at 7:09 PM ^
And JT Floyd.
December 15th, 2011 at 9:53 PM ^
Wow, I haven't heard Stephan Humphries name in a while. I bumped into him a few times during my school days and always, always came away extremely impressed with him as a person, not just an ass kicking OL. He was a heck of a smart guy.

How come the media isn't talking about this? Urban can take Ohio to national championship next year. Urban gets what he wants. Please so sick and tired about the talk
December 15th, 2011 at 5:08 PM ^
Whatever happened to the Big Ten coaches pact that they wouldn't go after other member's commits? I ask this with a slight bit of sarcasm and seriousness. Urban pulling over Se'von Pittman was what made me think back to that. Obviously it is off the table, but did it ever exist to begin with?
December 15th, 2011 at 5:10 PM ^
Michigan recently flipped Roundtree and Bellomy from Purdue.

Where is that snake oil?
December 15th, 2011 at 6:55 PM ^
Hoke doesn't need no stinkin snake oil; he has an index finger (x2)
December 15th, 2011 at 5:11 PM ^
we'd be just as guilty as all the rest. Bri'onte Dunn, anyone? Yeah, we didn't get him. But we sure tried.
December 15th, 2011 at 5:23 PM ^
don't tell him about Armani Reeves
December 15th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
Kyle Kalis anyone, the original class of 2012 poaching.
December 15th, 2011 at 7:06 PM ^
Not that I think there is such a pact or that there even should be, but didn't he re-open his recruiting after Tatgate, Tressel, etc. came out?
December 15th, 2011 at 5:22 PM ^
Tiller seemed to be the only one who knew about it. It made a lot of sense from his perspective since he had so little chance of snatching anybody else's recruits.
December 15th, 2011 at 6:41 PM ^
Tiller's understanding of the recruiting game seems to be similar to Sonny's card game in Big Daddy:
Or, perhaps, it reflects the wisdom of Fletcher Reed:

I've been checking the board with a little trepidation recently, not wanting to see a "Kalis visiting Ohio" thread. Great that this kid is firm, he's a monster recruit. Wish he could early enroll
December 15th, 2011 at 5:08 PM ^
We are with you Kyle!
December 15th, 2011 at 5:10 PM ^
He's a fucking idiot.
December 15th, 2011 at 5:15 PM ^
Kyle Kyle Kyle!! I'll give you ONE HUNDRED dollars if you come to OSU!
Not enough..? How about... TWO HUNDRED???
No?? You won't come to Ohio because you realize how awesome Michigan is...?But.. But... you make me a sad Meyer...
December 15th, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
You make peggy sad!
December 15th, 2011 at 5:13 PM ^
Can Hoke still go after Dunn? I hate Meyer going after Michigan commits.
December 15th, 2011 at 5:15 PM ^
He can but we have a bowl game to get ready for and spots to fill with more likely candidates and......oh yeah.....only one coaching staff
December 15th, 2011 at 5:15 PM ^
Can he? Hoke does have the ability to recruit Dunn. Will he? Well that is up to the staff.
December 15th, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
yea, so what's the talk of him being an EE now? for the whole time, i've been hearing that he's an EE then he's not, then he is and not.
December 15th, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
....to the good guys.
December 15th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
Mr. Kalis is a prize pupil at the Darius Morris School of Get The F*ck Off My Court.
December 15th, 2011 at 5:30 PM ^
Urb made the mistake of thinking that if he could flip Pittman he could flip Kalis, ignoring that Pittman's choice of MSU in the spring meant he was indeed dealing with a dumb kid. Kalis, not so much.
December 15th, 2011 at 6:15 PM ^
I followed his logic....
Transitive Student-Athlete Commitment Property:
MSU = Dumb --> Pittman = MSU --> Pittman = Dumb
