Doug Karsch Agrees More to Come for OSU
On Karsch&Anderson today, Doug said that there would be more information out on Ohio State next week. Given that there have been conflicting reports about the accuracy of the rumored SI article, this seems to give more validity to the possibility. Normally most of us take 97.1 information with a grain of salt, but Doug is usually pretty knowledgeable about college football in general.

There was some discussion, but Karsch talking about it is new
Also - informative thread titles are your friend.
Might I suggest "Doug Karsch Claimes more OSU news next week" instead of "Doug Karsch"
From the MGoBoard FAQ:
What should I title my threads?
Please make your thread titles as informative as possible: "Justin Feagin" is bad. "Justin Feagin leaving the team?" is good.
Where did the talk about SI's article dropping on the 31st come from? I just assumed it came directly from SI, but now that I think about it, I actually have no idea where that information originated from.
I think the OP from earlier this week said the rumor came from a Cbus radio station. Saw the same rumor all over the webz after that.
someone was here with the same info I had long ago
Yeah I would say old news but any additional verification it is coming out is welcome. Thanks

//I actually like Doug Karsch
Is there even going to be an ohio state football team in 2012?
in the other thread is May 31 is when more comes out. That just happens to be my birthday!
If there's more OSU schadenfreude on May 31, MichFan1997, we'll all be partying like it's your birthday (go shorty). /datedreference
Gonna be extra special this year.
May 31st is my birthday too! Me, you, Joe Namath, and Collin Farrell should hang out. Those guys know how to party.
how it's done. Oh oh, can we invite Tressel?!! That would be fun.
haha well inviting Tressel would break up the May 31st birthday theme I was going for but it would certainly be interesting.
for your birthdays? Would a Wayne Morgan commit be ok? I can't get it to ya till the next day, but I'm thinking it will be stylish and fit just right . . .
my birthday as well. Will be off all week and eagerly waiting the news.
I would bet that there will be an OSU football team in 2012. But, if all thise comes out and an investigation shows a lack of instutitional control since Tressel took over, there might not be one in say, 2014...
If they can prove that this has been going on since 2001, can the NCAA force the 2002 National Championship to be vacated...along with all Big 10 Championships/victories/etc...basically wipe out the entire Tressel era?
So they have to give back the rings?
Give back their rings.... heck, they might even have to give back thier tats.
If they have to return the rings, most of those guys would actually have to buy them back from whoever has them now. How will they get the money for that? Oh, right...
Mr. Damocles to the front desk...
"Actually sir, why don't you just stay right where you are."
The origanal information about the may 31rst article popped up on twitter from a reporter with ties to the Bucknuts website named Dave Biddle. It was talked about also on a columbus area radio broadcast where one of the hosts claim some type of inside information.
I've seen 4-5 people now claiming to know something about the S.I article and only one that says there is no article (sportsbybrooks). Biddle and sportsbybrooks according to bucknuts had a twitter battle 2 days ago about the article , it seems S.B.B is just misinformed and there is indeed an article.
The writer of the S.I article had held on to article longer than usual before publication due to a fear of being scooped. As far as whats in the article that's pure speculation , but there is deffinately an article....
If a sportswriter, or any journalist, is afraid of being scooped, why would you hold an article? Wouldn't you hurry to get your article published and avoid the scoop?
I think, what he means is the reporter is being coy about what is in the article until it's published and maybe holding it back from the editorial process, due to fear of leaks.
Or, it's possible (probable?) that multiple reporters/news organizations are digging for the bigger story and he didn't want his release date known. A release date would give other reporters have a deadline to get their story out by.
I think the speculation in the other thread was that the author is George Dohrmann. If so, that's great because Dohrmann has a history of exposing the shadier sides of amateur athletics.
Still, it's a bit odd because Dohrmann has always struck me as more of a basketball writer. He broke the story on the Minnesota basketball cheating and won a Pulitzer Prize for it. His last book, Play Their Hearts Out, is about the AAU culture creeping into middle school basketball and what a disaster that is.
Interestingly enough, in Play Their Hearts Out Dohrmann records a small recruiting violation on the part of Ohio State. I wonder if this could be a follow up to that? It would be interesting if they had major scandals going in both basketball and football at the same time.
Here's a thread I started last fall about the recruiting violation: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/pulitzer-prize-winner-alleges-osu-basketball-recruiting-violation
SPORTSbyBROOKS reported on 5/24 that there was no SI article on OSU next Tuesday:
"Yes, Dohrmann has been in Columbus chasing down leads but no, there are zero immediate plans for a story from him about Ohio State football to be published in Sports Illustrated."
Here's the link:

Wouldn't it be great if Dorhmann's next Pulitzer came from the TSIO story?
I don't understand why everyone is all excited to say "I know something!", yet nobody will actually say what that "something" is.
Wouldn't you get more clicks/ears/followers if you just told everyone what it is you're hinting at knowing?
The Columbus radio station alluded to new information about Tressel's history at YSU, also recruiting violations at OSU involving girls being made available, and I think some housing stuff. Just what I remember reading on this site; didn't listen to the radio first-hand.
It's probably the reporter at SI leaking it to a few sources.
If you had a story about an OSU scandal and wanted to sell as many copies as possible, where would you leak the story? Leaking it in Ohio and Michigan will generate advanced interest in the article, which means big sales of that issue, plus a lot of clicks on SI's website.
That translates to a nice fat raise for the reporter.

Damn! How to delete this? derp
damn. damn. derp. derp.
Oh well, meet grammy:
I would like to take this opportunity to complain about the way Doug speaks on TV. It makes me rage to the point that i never hear anything he says. Thanks for listening.
Dan Patrick also mentioned the SI story this morning on his show. He said it will be out next week.
Does Karsch actually know anything, or is he just parroting the same SI rumor as everyone else?
about Karsch, Dan Patrick, and any number of other people. As alluded to above, Dave Biddle, Bucknuts writer, said on Twitter that an SI article is likely coming out in June. That guy knows as much about OSU as anyone not a part of the program, but he may just be relying on what was said on that radio show.
Biddle is just a parrot.
Probably little from column A, little from column B. Can't expect all these journalists to suddenly not be page view whoring talking heads.
Karsch often mentions a contact he has who gives him the inside dirt on stuff but he's never allowed to say exactly what it is on the radio. He can only give hints.
I have no idea what he knows about the SI thing, though.
Karsch is always very knowledgeable about things related to UM, especially football. He is the voice of MIchigan Insider and considering how intertwined osu/UM are thru the rivalry, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if UM people have heard some of these rumos. Not only this, I'm sure he's got some college football contacts that have contacts.
Valenti mentioned a friend who covers CFB, travels the nation doing this. His friend made a comment that he's seen some 'Stuff' on various campuses, but what he saw at osu was far beyond out of control...
If it turns out to be a housing scandal like the rumors say, it almost implies that the people around Columbus knew it was happening but never said a word until a reporter came along and then they went online and said "This is bad guys, they're on to our housing scam," hence the rumors.
Maybe I'm wrong, but the way I've been reading it, it seems a decent number of people knew about this and are just figuring this was the next thing that has been uncovered. Seems like every two weeks something new gets added to this. They might just get it worse than USC at the rate this is going. They got it for what mostly Reggie Bush did (that being the only football player ever caught, if I recall). At OSU, they may end up with evidence that half or more of the team has been consistently involved with this stuff going back who knows how long.
Hey SI is about to drop a huge bombshell about OSU football on 5/31 I'm talking doomsday-type stuff OMG this is gonna be huge Tressel is so gone purple monkey dishwasher... pass it on.
This news tastes spicy and aromatic.
Next week is rumored to be armageddon for osu. I think a Harold Camping "end of the osu world" photoshop is appropriate.
Did I mention, that, there are so, many commas, in the OP?
A comma is us after the first independent clause when you link two independent clauses with one of the following coordinating conjunctions: and, but, for, or, nor, so, yet.
