Every year there are assumptions on how the team will perform/ how the season will go among the general fan base that turns out to be completely wrong… what is a perceived strength most likely to turn into a disappointment? What weakness or shortcoming is most likely to positively surprise?
As the strongest team in terms of raw stars, at what point do we stop worrying about the other teams and start building a Death Star of our own?
It is kind of embarrassing that with this many people participating we don’t even control a single region. Let’s get a firm lock down on the West and Central Canada regions and go from there.
He was our version of MSUs wide receiver Ricky White who torched us a couple years ago. Both came out of nowhere for monster games, didn’t do much the rest of the season and transferred.
In his goodbye announcement to Indiana, he says he has 2 years of eligibility remaining. Perhaps a medical year from one of his various injuries.
EDIT: I read the goodbye statement from one of his teammates that he re-tweeted. His goodbye statement didn't specify, but other articles on him also state that he only has one year remaining.
Is it that the opponents getting worse or is it that Michigan has been better over the last two seasons?
It definitely feels like games are less competitive/ we worry less about each individual opponent outside of OSU than in the past. I'd attribute that to an increase in Michigan's competency.
By improving up a level, we no longer have to worry as much about the average Big Ten teams that historically would have added 2-4 additional competitive matchups. As it is, the only game that should be truly competitive is Ohio State. And even that can be viewed as a match up of peers and not hoping the stars align for an upset.
If that is the case point them to the line in the article where it mentions that for people under contract pay reductions were voluntary. Juwan is under contract so the reason he’s getting paid back at all is that he loves this university enough to VOLUNTARILY give up $195k of his own earned money in the first place.
To tag along on this topic, ESPN has an article this morning about Saban lamenting on Texas A&Ms ability to buy every player in their class while he approaches NIL the right way.
On the flip side, by that logic, every elite RB and offensive lineman would be jumping at the chance to join the team.
If we keep winning games by exploiting the opposing teams’ inability to stop our running, even if we don’t throw another pass all year, I’m not going to complain.
It's shocking how different the team on the field the 2nd half is compared to what we thought it would be headed into the year. We were missing 9 of 22 starters (unless I’m missing anyone)
QB- McCaffrey transferred, Milton benched
WR - Nico opted out
RT - Mayfield injured
LT - Hayes injured
DE - Hutchinson injured
DE - Paye injured
LB - McGrone injured
CB - Ambry opted out
S - Hawkins injured
Plus 7 or 8 of those players were/are All BigTen caliber.
For an eight game schedule, unless they do away with divisions altogether it would seem to make the most sense to just eliminate one set of crossover games in each teams’ original nine game Big Schedule.

This comment reminds me of a similar thought I had during/following the 2014 NBA Finals. On a court with Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Ray Allen, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobli... who is this Kawhi Leonard kid who is dominating the series? He deservedly took home finals MVP honors that year and turned out to be one of the best in the game.

Bama is closing in fast! If last years regular season point differentials hold again this year, they’ll pass us by the end of this season. They’re only back 189, they had +413, we were +205 per last season standings.
I see most of the creativity from the past 4 years was put to good use securing wins against the conferences best... Rutgers, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota. Really looking forward to this season and seeing what Gattis has to offer against OSU, ND, PSU, and MSU.
And we’re then going to repeat that cycle of optimism leading to disappointment every year until present, with the exceptions being 2011 (won Sugar, beat OSU), 2012 & 2014 (both disappointing from the start).

The top 3 barn burners that come to mind for me are:
- 2010 Football vs Illinois
- 2017 NCAA opening round win vs Oklahoma St.
- 2018 Basketball loss to Purdue (though all games against them that year were top notch)
It helps that 7 of 11 offensive starters were ranked 1 or 2 at their position in their recruiting classes...

OSU literally does not have a backup QB... I knew they had a few transfers but didn’t realize there was no one left if anything happened to Fields.
