How do you know the tickets sold by the M Ticket office to people with enough Priority Points are already hitting the market? I bought two tickets from the ticket office (to use myself) and the ticket locations / barcodes haven't been distributed yet.
I was hoping this victory brought you some happiness. I still hope it does, in time, if it didn't in the moment. To the extent that Michigan Football still figures into your day to day mood setting formula, I hope a weight has been lifted and a wait has been rewarded. Hope and joy will not always be hand-in-hand with loss.
Thanks for sharing this Brian. When you are writing at your peak level of interest and passion, reading your blog is absolutely amazing. If you desire it, I hope you're able to keep Michigan athletics a [healthy] passion of yours despite it contributing to the crumbling of your "bricks". If not, I hope you're able to find a new passion that gratifies at the same level Michigan used to. I hope you're able to get to a good place soon, one step at a time if need be. When you get there, if you're writing, I'll be a reader.
Note there's an image in the news today showing a hole where a huge painted mural used to be on a brick wall in New Orleans which crumbled under hurricane Ida. The image came to mind when I read about your bricks crumbling. Bet your ass they're gonna repair that hole, but will the mural artist recreate the magic?
We were all watching at my house, part of that record viewership.
Happy to see a return to actual sports writing on the front page too. Great post. I do appreciate the informative posts on mgoblog but aside from those - the passion and quality of the editorials hasn't been what it once was, until this.
I think Coach Howard deserves a Star Down in addition to Star Up. Whether we're talking about as a player recruit or a coaching candidate ... he was top 50 in both. Just sayin
Season tickets are already paid for 2021 by people who paid in 2020 and did not choose either of the other two options (full refund or convert to donation). So for me, I am already paid in full with no decision to make for the 2021 season. So yeah, I'm getting tickets in 2021.
I also believe M Football is one of those evergreen things for enough people where the ticket situation won't be too dire. After a year off, where most people haven't been able to do ANYTHING, people will be itching to go to games and visit Ann Arbor. If there's a new coach, the demand for tickets will be even greater.
I don't really disagree with your conclusions overall. Just want to point out that the comparison to local politics where some groups of people on one side of an issue don't show up to the meetings doesn't seem to fit here. It looks like all people even remotely linked to college football are participating in the conversation. Also, if "knowledge about COVID shifts daily" as you say it does then one could argue neither side has solid ground to stand on.
Explanation makes sense. Safe to assume if mgoblog were able to pay Nico for the image, mgoblog would have. Right? Being so vocal about paying the players.
If anyone is to blame for this (and I don't necessarily think blame is justified) it's Topps. Not the person who is buying low and selling high. I've never understood the fury directed at people who engage in arbitrage. Whether its tickets, collectibles, real estate, stocks, etc. The person paying $80 wouldn't even have the card at all if not for the flipper selling it to them.
I have been exercising a lot more and with the exception of 2 or 3 beers, completely stopped drinking. As a result, my body was noticeably pissed at me last time I had just a single beer. I might be on the verge of permanently changing my habits on alcohol and exercise. As naive as this may sound, I would encourage anybody listening to go sober for a month and exercise every day, that alone might do amazing things for your mindset and also quality of sleep.
Talking about culture ... Did anyone else listen to the 'In the Trenches' podcast after the Indiana game? Jon Jansen asked Dax Hill about the upcoming OSU game and Dax replied "it's just another game". I have to believe Jansen was about to jump out of his skin. Dax is a sharp kid and I think if the coaches emphasized the OSU game the way OSU emphasizes the TTUN game, Dax wouldn't have answered the question that way.
When Dantonio finally walks away do you think he’ll use the Lou Anna Simon “none of this is my fault” or the Mark Hollis “I’m not running from anything”? Or a new line we haven’t heard yet.
I think if the spartyz push him out they might realize he was their best and /or only option. What coach would voluntarily go that cesspool? Only a coach with no other offers. MSU campus culture is below rock bottom right now. Alums I know won’t even let their kids go there.
I completely disagree with the idea it's harder to make a living now. The internet and smartphones alone blow that argument up. I've been in the workforce 20 years. I've been laid off, hit adversity, had short term setbacks, shot myself in the foot a couple times, but over the long horizon I've moved up in salary. Some increases from skilling up and switching professions, some from switching employers, some from becoming a more senior person in my current profession and just overall being more valuable to my employer and being compensated for it. By the way, LinkedIn wasn't even invented 20 years ago! LinkedIn makes job hunting SO MUCH EASIER. Not to mention side hustle income working from home on nights/weekends is easier to make now than ever before with the current state of the internet. Sell stuff on eBay, Amazon, FB Marketplace or Etsy, it's super easy. It's also easier than ever to be an entrepreneur. Legal forms easy to file online, marketing platforms FB and Insta are easy to use, collaboration tools to meet with people around the world, great applications exist for shipping/logistics/taxes/payroll, etc.
I just believe every person creates their own way. You are responsible for your future and your happiness. Not your parents, not 'society', not the government, not other people who have more money than you. What you do today lays the groundwork for how you live tomorrow.
Do you have kids? If yes, do you view your savings account balance as your own money or "my kids inheritance"?
I've never understood the mindset of entitled children who expect inheritance. Don't you want your parents to spend and enjoy their money if they have a surplus of it??
not necessarily from this article but over time I've learned to completely ignore MLive articles that come up in the newsfeed. Mgoblog and Sam Webb are all you need if you love Michigan sports.
MLive needs clicks, and they write their headlines to maximize clicks. They also don't proofread.
Show me an MLive article with zero spelling or grammatical errors and I'll give you a dollar. Show me an MLive article with zero one sentence paragraphs and I'll give you two dollars.
It was much louder and much more at capacity than i figured it would be. I couldn't hear Carl Grapentine at all when the Michigan D was on the field. (Sitting in section 20)
I figured there wouldn't be much of a home field advantage with the rain but I was very wrong about that!
I had waterproof layers on but after being outside for 8 hours in the rain, eventually things got wet inside. Giggity?
I've been to all the B1G stadiums except Turgers and Ramyland ...
Illinois was by far the worst place to have fun. Walking around the campus two hours prior to kick... nobody was out doing anything. I didn't even see a populated tailgate area. It's nothing like Ann Arbor on a gameday. Your wife will never forgive you

Is there a Fools Hurdled shirt? Where the back looks like a list of concert tour locations?

Weekday 9pm November Games have had this “problem” in the past. On top of that, many ann arborites are still not ok being indoors with other people.
it is what it is

Just win the football games. This is an on field performance problem, not a predatory / corrupt athletic department problem.
Is there any way to determine what would have to happen for M to take the lead?

John Bacon says the attendance number is made up, every game. Not strictly a Dave Brandon thing.

Nice post Ace!
I'm so thankful to be reading about sports.

Speak for yourself. I love Michigan. Michigan things you list in your post will never be a curse (for me at least)
I listened to the same episode, I took it as just passionate discourse.
Runyan said he took Panasiuk for a ride 20 yards downfield. Anyone have a link to that?
There was a time when reading these Monday columns after a glorious win got the neck hairs to stand up. For example: "Deep In The Night I Heard The Pealing Of Bells".
I feel like this game could have generated a game column for the ages. Instead: an obituary then bullets?
Not saying I didn't enjoy the column. It was just ... you know what I mean.

Was it possible to save the last timeout and force a punt? Or was there too little time left.
Rather than waste your last timeout on a challenge that wasn't really very close.
Unquestionably yes
Man, just let the players focus on getting better. Just lock the media out of the building.

Draymond wanting to be a typical Sparty and flex on a U-M guy
Joke's on Draymond - JP charges more on fiverr for a birthday shoutout than anyone is willing to pay to hear that stupid song
With our offense having 8 of 11 starters as top 250 recruits, I'd like to think we can score touchdowns. I am hopeful.
Isn't it better for Michigan if this remains a mystery to Iowa? I don't understand why fans try so hard to publicize injury information.
