Shea: “we’re not trying to be explosive”

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on October 9th, 2019 at 8:55 AM

Strange quotes this week.

From MnB

Positivity’s always lost these days,” Shea Patterson said, via The Detroit News. “Obviously, we have high expectations and we know you guys do too. All I can say is that we’re trying our best and we’re working our ass off every single day and we’re going to continue to grow.”

“I think there’s a lot that you guys don’t see,” Patterson said. “There’s a lot that the fans don’t see. They make their adjustments on defense, we make our adjustments on offense, we’re not not trying to be explosive. I do believe that there’s a lot left out there. The sky’s really the limit for this offense. It’s just a matter of time.”

I'm really wondering if Harbaugh only has a certain type of QB he can coach up, guys like Luck, Rudock, and possibly Speight, guys who can mentally handle all the complex demands he places on them.

Then you have guys like O'Korn and Patterson, who are more gunslinger types who rely more on instinct rather than conscious processing of the defense and receiver progression.  These two just can't seem to catch up, bail on the pocket prematurely and are hesitant, not sure if they have the right throw or not.

In all honestly, he seems pretty depressed.  That is concerning bodily language.  I obviously don't know him but if that is still his demeanor when the camera isn't rolling I would probably be a bit worried.  Not just for football, but just in general.  Hoping the best for him through this season.

I agree about the scrutiny and criticism that is heaped on Shea and I’m not blameless myself. If one wants to play in that arena at this level it should be expected.

But we need to be mindful that he’s still a kid playing a sport. Kids haven’t had the time to develop coping skills. Let’s hope there is psychological support available within the team medical staff to look out for our guys.

Agree. I think it takes a very specific type of person to be able to handle the pressure. An extremely confident, ice in the veins type of person. I certainly wouldn't want to do it, and I wouldn't want my kid to do it, either. I can't imagine reading some of the crap people write on social media about my kid.

No, never have diagnosed anything having to do with Harbaugh, except for pointing out the fact that he never expressed or implied that he was changing his coaching demeanor intentionally, that is ridiculous.

As to this, kid just seems really low.  Hope he is not taking this too hard.  Can't be easy to go from NFL potential to perhaps getting sat.

Sorry if that take offends you.

He doesn't have the same swagger he had last year.  When McCaffrey came in against Wisconsin he provided a spark.  He was moving the ball and it seemed like he was processing things quicker than Shea and doing a much better job of reading the defense.  No way to prove it but had he not gotten targeted I think he would have put together at least a couple of scoring drives in that game and might have established himself as the starter by now.

Immediately upon saving the thread I realized I missed the second not. I’m not one of the bench our starter fans, that’s why I quoted the whole article.

It’s been how long with this site upgrade and we still can’t edit OPs? Ridiculous.

This thread is "less" of a shitshow than the program at this point, so how about you prioritize your frustrations and try some "root cause analysis"... or maybe even basic logic problems FERRIS!

If FB team wasn't a complete circus and shit show (for 10+yrs) we wouldn't be having these discussions... now would we!

Does U of M teach cause and effect anymore? WTF

“I think there’s a lot that you guys don’t see,” Patterson said.

Here's my attempt: There's a lot of guys that Shea "don't see"!

Seriously though. I'm sure Shea and everyone are trying their best and I'm equally sure it sucks to get shit on by everyone. Hopefully Shea can turn it around and salvage something for this year because he looks like a guy who has no business even thinking about making an NFL practice squad at this moment.

Shea is definitely missing open receivers but damn after watching the replay last night, the UM receivers create no separation on most plays.

Klatt and Urban are right.   Klatt throughout the game said UM’s receivers make to attempt to help the QB and stop routes short and Urban said without a running game that UM will struggle to throw the ball because the defense is not respecting UM’s running game.
