Player comps are never perfect but he reminds me a bit of upper class MAAR or a slightly wingy-er version of him. Big combo guard, can shoot from outside, gets to the rim, playmaker for others, great at D. Good at a lot of things but more of a glue guy.
Can guard 1-3 and will probably be our best on ball perimeter defender next season. Love this pick up.
Would love to add Gayle to that projected roster as well. As the 1 and 2 position currently stands, there are only two players with high major experience. Pippen could be really good and GWIII could make a jump but that is tough to count on.
Gayle could also bump Rooths down to the 4. And now we’re cookin. But now we are also out of roster spots.
Really hope basketball is able to pull of the “NIL rids you of scholarship limits” the way football has.
Think we will probably also go after Boyd from FAU who is a ball handler and has 2 years of eligibility left. Could see him as the starting 1 or at least heavy in the rotation and slide Davis down.
I also think it’s more likely May adds a 4 not listed above rather than having Burnett and Tschetter starting.
Fantastic write up. Question for Alex or anyone else that wants to answer.
Is there anything in college hockey that is the equivalent of Kenpom or SP+?
I see we are much lower on the Pairwise than the other Frozen Four teams but I’m curious how we would compare in a predictive ranking. How much better is BC than us? Would the closest way to view it be Corsi?
Also, any word on Seamus for the Frozen Four? He’s got a week and a half to heal up so are we feeling optimistic?
(Posted this under the recap article but threw it here as well for a better chance at visibility)

It's a fair criticism to wonder if our potential new DC would rely too much on cover 1 man to man which our main rival absolutely shredded in their last two wins against us.
I would love to hear Barnhart talk about this pull on the Corum OT touchdown. His decision to bounce outside Loveland was incredible. I don't know how you have the ability to see a Bama linebacker running full speed into a gap further inside and be able to make the judgement call that he isn't going to blow up the play AND trust Corum to also get outside Loveland there. Just incredible.
I joined the Big 10 Club of So Cal this year because they offer face value tickets to the Rose Bowl. I live in LA so it seemed like a good group to be a part of regardless.
Their block of seats are in sections 6 and 7 which is the bama side but will surely be full of other Michigan fans around me. I’ll be in 6H.
i went to a Rose Bowl mixer event of theirs out of curiosity and spoke to someone high up on the Rose Bowl Committee. He said he expects it to be very heavy Michigan fans. Potentially 2/3rds Michigan fans. He said he dealt with ticket allotment and had some intel on it. Based on the ticket prices being more affordable on the Bama sides this seems like it checks out.
Also, there is a massive Michigan Alumni base in LA and the tradition of the Rose Bowl will surely draw Michigan fans from across the country. I think a lot of Bama fans just assume they will win and will safe their money for an easier trip to Houston.
I’m expecting a big turnout for Michigan and don’t think anyone should be afraid of sitting on the Bama side.
Well if they are deemed an “agent of the staff” when they are asked to film games then they are still an “agent of the staff” when they were induced to flip.
im guessing if we paid an outside firm to pay an osu staffer to give us access to their hard drives it would not be received well.
either they are not staffers when they filmed games which makes all of this legal or they were staffers when they were induced to share access to a university hard drive
The only way I can open Mgoblog from my iPhone is if I click a link from Twitter. Otherwise it does not load at all. I realize the irony here since Elon completely broke Twitter and yet it’s the only way I can access my favorite website from my phone.
It sounds like someone is playing a game of pong in the background. More pronounced when I have my airpods in. I do have misophonia but will still gratefully devour every second of the podcast. It is the only time I have ever noticed it personally on an MGoPod.
He is not a 4. At least will never play 4 on next year’s roster.
Here are a few items that make me optimistic about him.
25 years old. Makes us a very old team next season. Full grown man. Stark contrast to last season.
80% free throw percentage. Generally a good indicator of shooting ability.
35% on catch and shoot threes on decent volume in his last full season. Poor on off the dribble numbers brings down his overall percentage. Had to take a lot of late shot clock chucks which leads me to…
30% usage rate. A la Mike Smith he had to do a lot of heavy lifting. Efficiency should go up with less usage.
very good assist rate. He is an excellent passer. Probably his best skill. He and Nkamhoua are both elite passers and will play off each other very well.
All in all, he raises the floor dramatically. Another option at the 2/3 and we really need one of Perez, JL, or YoYo to be at least big 10 replacement level. We need a secondary creator and another scorer. He may not be a shooter but he is a scorer.
We would take both. Reeves is a dynamic wing shooter with some secondary playmaking ability. Would instantly become our leading scorer. Mulcahey does everything else well other than score. Elite passer, great on D. Adding two proven high major players to the 2/3 would be massive.
Seth, how do you think he could compare to Ryan Van Bergen as another player comp if he reaches more of his upside potential? I could see it as a tier below Espinosa but a tier above Godin, perhaps?
The Godin comp is pretty perfect though at current expectations.
I’m guessing it has something to do with NFL potential. Hinton could still develop into a 1st rounder where as Nugent is more likely to be a very solid college player but without the NFL upside. High ceiling vs high floor.
Stewart is mediocre and grumpy with big baby boomer vibes. He's always hated Michigan and Harbaugh. Would be more worried if he picked us to go 12-0 because he is wrong so often. I also think he is underrating Nebraska this season but we'll see.
My take away from this is that there is a non zero chance Terrance Williams hits a shot to beat Wisconsin in the big ten tourney that sends us dancing and then celebrates by doing the dx suck it motion to their bench
I don't love the idea of playing Ok St in Dallas but they are the worst team in contention according to SP+. At the end of the day, it's anybody but UGA or Bama for me though.
Why don’t they put Jones’ name on the 80 jersey? He is more likely to enter the game as 80 than his normal jersey number. Just put his name on the jersey.
Is there another player they may use as the 6th olineman in addition to Jones? If so, can they make an 80 jersey with his name on it too? I really feel like we can afford to let Jones wear a jersey with his name on it. /rant
Ja’Lynn Polk is out for the year. Terrell Bynum is their number 1 WR and he is rumored to be back for the Michigan game but still up in the air. Rome Adunze is expected to miss a few more weeks. Jalen McMillan I haven't seen any updates on but could be back.
Sounds like they will be without 2 of their top 4 WR's for sure and then the other 2 are still up in the air.
My understanding is the NT would exit, another safety (Moten) would come on, and Dax would move to Nickel. So more of a 4-2-5 with Hutchinson and Ojabo/Morris/Upshaw rushing off the edge standing up.
I could see NHG playing more against Washington, Wisconsin, and MSU types of offenses and then Barrett playing more against teams that spread it out more and need more coverage from your linebackers.
NHG was thought of as a thumper in his recruiting profile but it also sounds like he has transformed his body a bit in the off season so maybe he has put it all together. His player comp from Brian last year was Mike McCray.
I realize we are only likely to take 4 in this cycle but my current ideal class is...
1: Dug
2/3: Jett
3/4: Dailey
4: Traore
5: Reed
Dailey isn't deciding for a while so we may know more about whether we would have room for him by the time he decides. If he doesn't go overseas, I think we have a great chance at him.
Is Jaden Bradley a good enough shooter / scorer that he could play the 2 in some lineups next to Frankie? Or is he only a lead guard and they would need to split minutes?
Trimble also seems like the perfect player to pair with Collins in that two year recruiting span since they will both be around for a few years and can play together on the court at the same time
Those first two sentences are a lot darker with the context that Luka Garza has the same supernatural powers as Alex Mack and the arena staffer clearly murdered him with his mop
Brice over at 247 just touched base with him. Without giving away everything, he basically grew up a UM fan, is very interested but is waiting to see who our d coordinator will be.

This was such an incredible read. Such a treat to get some writing from Ace. The championship now feels complete.

Things that give me pause:

Apparently he blew the staff away in a one on one work out
We went after Ty Rodgers really hard. He didn’t want to be in the same class as Jett.
Big time Uche vibes with this one
