Michigan pursuing former Ole Miss CB per Sam Webb

Submitted by CaliforniaNobody on January 24th, 2023 at 8:48 PM

Ok I scanned the board like 3 times for this because its been out for a while and comes from Sam. It's Davison Igbinosun, a freshman All-American who was just outside the composite top 150 in 2022. He's one of Partridge's New Jersy kids, apparently Partridge vouched for us which is cool. Sam says there's mutual interest.

CB still won't be stacked with this addition, IMO. It'll be "set," but you need this kid + another to be stacked.

OL is stacked, there are legitimately 10 guys who could start on most teams in the country.

RB, obviously stacked...not depth, but you have 2 Hesiman candidates in the same backfield.

If I was doing position rankings...with this addition (since this thread is about this CB).

  1. OL
  2. RB
  3. ILB
  4. S
  5. WR
  6. DL
  7. EDGE
  8. QB
  9. TE
  10. CB (+NB)

I can't rate K/P until I see more of them.

That's not a knock on the bottom 4-5, the positions ranked higher are absolutely LOADED.

Who in the portal is an upgrade over the guys we have?

WR is fine, IMO, nothing special, there's no Braylon.

But CJ and Roman Wilson pose problems and we've yet to see Clemons. Then you have Henning and Morris, who looks like that slot receiver who is going to catch everything and keep the chains moving ala Dileo and Perry.

With the OL we have the the RBs we have, plus the TEs we use...WRs will be okay.

You also have to consider Edwards partially in that group. I could absolutely see us going Corum, Edwards, Johnson, Wilson, Loveland.

That is a crazy good lineup with weapons and a bunch of diversity in skillset.

You've got to bump the DL up to 3, and I'd put the safeties above the ILB.

DL has Jenkins, Graham and Benny as 3 guys you have to get snaps for.  Add in Grant who was playable as a freshmen which usually portends stardom.  I suppose you can argue that you rotate the DL and depth beyond 4 guys would be nice, but I think Jenkins, Graham and Benny are all better at their position than Colson and Barrett are at LB.  Even though Barrett was very good and Colson would be at the Jenkins-Graham level if the game slows down for him.

As for ranking the positions by how "stacked" they are, it's astounding how far the team has come in the last three years.

In 2015-2020, there were entire positions where the team barely had a one-deep...let alone a two-deep.

The only position where there's any question about having a two-deep at this point is CB.  Every other position has a plausible two-deep...or even a three/four-deep.

The discussion re: TE, EDGE, or WR is really nitpicking compared to any year before 2021.
