For those who don’t know Excel is a much respected football guy on the Twitters. Brian among others follow him.He has been critical of the potential Wink hire from the beginning. So has Spacecoyote another respected football guy.

I remain deeply skeptical of Wink due primarily to opinions of knowledgeable folks like the above.

Maybe Harbaugh's hires since 2018 have spoiled us and Wink might be great, but IMO, to act like hiring decisions among coaches are all well thought best choice moves, and not more likely made because of who knows who, who owes who, and general coaching brotherhood nonsense is just naive.

And many intelligent people with good critical thinking skills can educate themselves with much more informed and accurate opinions than folks directly involved in certain areas of expertise precisely because they have a greater store of other knowledge and are less likely to groupthink. Anyway, do you only take book recommendations from published authors or only listen to movie critics who have produced and directed a film?

I don't know. If you read 237 comments on an Athletic article, you'd get 237 opinions, and every single person has serious conviction about why they're right. Harbaugh took 8 years to figure out a formula that worked here, and find coaches who all came together in the right way. And he's considered one of the best coaches in the country. A lot of it is chemistry and timing.

I think that's on the twitter thread - probably transporting the reasons he gives for being skeptical (which are quite detailed and knowledgable, even if you don't know who "Manuel Excel" is) and crediting the originator might have been a better angle to come at this from than "Manuel Excel and Space Coyote don't like him so I don't" - but the fact remains, they do have long threads going through both their perceived positives and negatives and trying to bubble up the things that are unknown to them as outside observers that could sway it either direction.

I guess I'm just saying - the threads are a good read that will make you a more informed fan, even if they are silly twitter handles.

I ain’t getting twitter just to read their threads.

Anyone can look at what happened in the past and say that’s what the next story will be. They’re usually wrong. Other than pointing to empirical evidence like excited soyjacks, what actual insight do these guys bring to the table?

You are posting BS.  SpaceCoyoto has both positive and negative things to say about him.  If anything he seems to disagree with this Excel guy.

Wink isn’t all downside. The major benefits is he’s an established play caller and game planner and can own the defensive rooms, which is a major benefit for a first time head coach, especially coming from the O side.

I still don’t like it for schematic and adaptability reasons https://t.co/6onbglXgOf

I may be alone in this, but I just don't understand why UM can't perpetrate a number of criminally conspiratorial acts which force Minter, Elston and Herbert to get back in line. Most of it could likely be accomplished with fraud and blackmail. Isn't this just one of those rare cases where the ends would justify the means?

What if Wink uses the same coverages MacDonald and Minter used, but mixed in some of his own flair with it? I see a lot of Don Brown comparisons but Brown's problem was that he never adjusted to anything and there's no way Wink could have survived in the NFL for as long as he did without making schematic adjustments.
