Guess Urban’s Next Coaching Gig

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on December 16th, 2021 at 7:18 AM

Mates,

As a number here have mentioned, despite the thought that urban might not get re-employed you just know that he is going to get a football job somewhere, somehow. This morning’s question is guess where, when, and in what capacity that Ohio sociopath will be re-employed. We should hopefully keep this thread in a box and open it up in about nine months when he gets his new job…

Hope you are well, and the wind doesn’t blow your house down. Lots of power out up here in the North country.

I wrote below that I don't think anyone will hire him. But. . . there was a reason he was in J'ville, the most conservative city--by many reckonings--in the country, that the man who hired him, and resisted firing him, did. And when his daughter comes out on Instagram to post this. . .

“We already know who wins in the end,” Meyer said in her first Instagram Story on the matter, kicking off a lengthy set of posts.

”The spirit of the enemy is in full force battle mode in this world & in people. This is war. But like I said... We all know who wins in the end,” she said, adding prayer and cross emojis. .

You kinda get an indication what kind of schools--without getting terribly explicit--might just.

"if" Sark has another bad season?  Have you looked at the guy's head-coaching record across 3 powerhouse schools?  Asinine hire to start with.  Zero chance he'll be turning it around significantly next year.  Maybe he'll get a few bounces and go 7-5.  His best record in football is 9-4, done one time, in 8 tries. Two losing seasons.  Three 7-6 seasons.

This is what my money is on - Texas, 2023.  The UT boosters want to win, they don't necessarily care how it gets done.  They won't want him bringing sanctions to the program, but they won't care how he runs it, either.  Oil men do some dirty shit, they know about dirty shit, they don't care if someone gets a little strong-armed to get some dirty shit done.  As long as shit is getting done and games are won, they'll be happy.

Urban's issues with women?  LOL!!!  What the fuck does Texas care about women?

The only thing that gives me pause is, that in the age of NIL and immediately eligible transfers, he might not be able to get away with this in the emerging CFB environment.

If Jags players were talking to players on other teams about wanting out, what is to stop them from saying that to Jimbo Fisher, Brian Kelly et al?

This is what I was thinking. He doesn't fit the NFL (it was a very bad idea and everyone on this board knew he would fail there, but would anyone have predicted it with such aplomb?) and college isn't the same as when he left it (dramatically so).

One thing he has never done before is win playing on equal footing. The NIL rules, while still much of the long term consequences are unknown, do seem to level the playing fields in some cases and hoard wealth in others.

I don't know where that leaves poor old Urban. He might slide back in perfectly (ala Saban) or maybe the NFL hurt his ego and he will start to unravel (can't think of a comp). He is probably still a better coach than 90% of college teams paying $5 million and up have, so he will get a job and continue to be a major annoyance to us all. He is also a worse role model for young men than all of them (apart from one strip dancing Barney wannabee).

To your point this morning on 92.3 The Fan sports talk here in Cleveland they were discussing "Meyer vs Fickell" if Day leaves for the Bears as rumored.

And candidly I could see why this would be a geniune conundrum for the OSU faithful:

On one hand you have a disgraced coach, hated by virtutally everyone, abused players, abused assistants who very publically cheated on his wife after lying to his team.  But he beats Michigan!!!!

On the other hand you have a well respected coach, running a clean program, local, with deep OSU roots who would, in the words of Brady Hoke, "walk to Columbus for the job".  But he lost his only game to Michigan.

They are genuinely conflicted here.

You think they'll wait til after next year? Day may go to da Bears & Urbz will be back in there by Spring practice!

I was so pissed when I heard he kicked a kicker 4 months ago (what took him so long to tell that story anyway?!)

I knew that was all the excuse they'd need to can his ass & save ~$80mill they owe him. I liked him right where he was - getting ridiculed & out of our lives
