Jeremiah Lowe Has Committed To Michigan Comment Count

Alex.Drain August 10th, 2023 at 4:33 PM

Michigan has earned a second commitment from a 2024 corner in 3* Jeremiah Lowe from Lexington, KY:

This commitment comes on the heels of the Wolverines landing Jo'Ziah Edmond last week, as the team circles back to 3* corner options after losing out on the entirety of their top targets at the position in this recruiting class. Lowe is listed at 5'11, 170 lbs. and plays for Frederick Douglass HS in Lexington. He is currently ranked outside the top 1000 in the 247 composite, a 3* to all four services at this time. The team now has 28 commits in the 2024 recruiting class and maintains a top 10 class rank in each of the rankings.

I think you mean “not more than one…’

Trust the coaches, yada yada, yada, and yes Michigan has been fortunate in that a few three stars worked out, but every recruiting cycle needs a highly ranked CB to make it more likely that at least one will pan out.

Right now, as a result of recruiting issues, the team isn’t sure who’s gonna be the second CB. Where would we be if didn’t have Will Johnson at least?

With the past happy offenses that exist throughout college football, this is becoming the most important position on defense. Stars matter on some level and more so at some positions.

Yeah I mean CB has often been one of the weaker spots on the defense. A lot of 3 star CBs have been quite good, especially long guys who aren't that fast, but definitely not as good as you'd like going up against WRs like OSU has. Of course we have a great chance to make it 3 in a row, but if Michigan loses The Game, my money would be on WRs for OSU running too open as the main reason. Really hoping they finally get a not-amazing year from a frigging QB.

I agree they need to take a higher-rated corners when possible but having disruptive ends and tackles feels just as important for a pass defense.  Georgia's big problem last year against OSU wasn't so much that their corners got eaten up but that they couldn't consistently get pressure on Stroud.

UM whiffing on a lot of their top targets at corner isn't great, though again with how recruiting goes I wouldn't be surprised if they got back in on a guy or two if those programs struggle.

And Georgia's starting cornerback, Kelee Ringo, was drafted in the 4th round of the NFL draft while UM's 3.5 star DJ Turner was selected in the 2nd.  Shockingly how a player develops is just as important as how he looked in HS.

I get your point about talent to build from but I swear this site has the same argument every time a non-top 250 kid signs and then every time those guys graduate we're all like "hmm, turned out to be a pretty good player".

Seems so odd that Clinkscale who is known to be a top recruiter, whiffed, especially after the season we had.  Maybe because was going all in on the top guys who both happened to be from Ohio and picked OSU. Yet it still seems odd. If it happens again next year, his recruiting reputation will suffer.

Curious to read the Hello post about these last two CB's. I know we all want 4/5 star players but there's a tangible difference between hardly scouted and highly scouted 3-star players. Not being a recruitnik, I have no idea which category these gents fall into.

And since someone will ask/comment - yes of course I'd have rather gotten Aaron Scott or Bryce West, but I also trust the staff's evaluation and development skills. They've proven they can find undervalued, lower rated recruits and develop them into really good players.
